Chapter 1 Installation Manual VIPA HMI

Short overview

Movicon Movicon is an open HMI/Scada platform that offers users a quick and
simple way to create vertical applications for visualization, the collection of
operational data, logging, maintenance, etc.
With its intuitive user interface and its numerous integrated tools, operating
Movicon is simple for the user.

HMI HMI (Human Machine Interface) are systems for the operation of technical
installations, the observation of processes and the data backup of industrial
manufacturing processes. HMI devices are applied for simple machines
such as packaging machines.

SCADA SCADA systems (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) include, based
on an industrial PC, components for control, analysis, monitoring, storing
and administration of the information flow between the systems of the field
level and the process control level of a company. This guarantees the
connection between the decentral I/O units and the machine controllers as
well as to the office computers of the process control level.
While HMI devices are used for simple control tasks, the highly efficient
SCADA devices are usually applied for complex automation systems.
By means of this device it is possible to represent operational processes in
the form of flow charts. This increases the transparency for its monitoring.
Important operational data are being collected and represented graphically.
In the event of an error, the alarm will immediately be set off and by means
of the respective entry form, you can react on this error.

Project variables

Overview The variables of Movicon represent the real-time data base for all
resources and logics of your project.
You can represent or collect variables of your PLC, process them and
eventually return them to the PLC.
Variables can be combined with objects or each resource of your project or
with each other using the logic.
The real-time data base offers the following options:
Dynamic connecting of variables of the project with variables from the
machine by means of a communication driver.
Dynamic connecting of local variables with variables of a network server
via TCP/IP.
Dynamic connecting of local variables with data fields of an ODBC date
base.
Dynamic connecting of variables with OPC Clients/Server applications
by means of OPC standards. The variable data base can take over the
OPC server functions while the OPC editor within the project enables the
connection as OPC client.

Creating a variable To create variable follow the following procedure:

Click on real time DB within the project explorer:

Now, select the command add a new variable (tag)... from the instruction
list (below) or via the context menu.
Enter a clear name for the variable. The new variables will then be
pasted into the list of variables:
