Introduction

Civil engineering is a branch of engineering, it deals with creation,

building, maintenance, design of houses, roads, bridges, tunnels,
airports, ports, systems for water supply, sewage treatment and
dams as well as irrigation projects of canal and channels, its like
any science that develops constantly and without interruption and
has recently developed in a great way to produce new construction
material that meet increasing requirements.
What is it like being
a civil engineer?

Civil engineering is a very

compressing yet fulfilling career, as the engineer is able to work on
a project from its inception right to its completion, when you fly out
of an airport, drive through a tunnel, drive over the bridge, see a
building, visit a museum, civil engineer has had a major part in that
project.

Civil engineers have many responsibilities, interacting with clients,

customers, inspectors, suppliers, vendors, architects, and design
teams, they submit and revise drawings, tendering, looking at
reports, cost estimating, also spend time on visiting construction
sites in all kinds of weather conditions to make sure work is going
smoothly and struggles are resolved.
An effective and successful civil engineer
should possess the following features: -

1. creativity, innovation, and forward thinking.

2. complex data interpretation.
3. communication skills.
4. Risk assessment.
5. Good management.
Finally, Areas of specialization

Students normally choose an area of specialization once they begin

to select their technical complementary courses.
