Letter of Recommendation for Employment

Student: Hitchcock Rebecca

(Last) (First)

My contact with this student:

I had the pleasure of working with Rebecca during the Fall 2016 semester. I was her clinical instructor for
NURS 356, Foundations of Nursing Care. This course integrates the principles of beginning medical
and surgical nursing skills, theory, research, pathophysiology, and pharmacology, and provided nursing
care on both the long-term care and memory units in the facility. I had the opportunity to observe
Rebecca in clinical practice, lecture, and development sessions, including simulation and lab settings.

What are the applicants major strengths?

Rebecca brought a number of strengths to both the classroom and the clinical setting: she is observant,
has excellent interpersonal skills, and is able to quickly apply theory from the classroom to the clinical
setting. What impressed me most about Rebecca is her ability to be present to patients while also being
cognizant of the nursing process and the priorities of care that needed to be attended to. The ability to be
both caring and capable of attending to the full range of a patients needs does not come easily to many
students, but Rebecca has a gift for this and was able to fulfill multiple roles even as a beginning nursing
student.

What is your overall evaluation of this student compared with others at the same level in your program?
Rebecca was memorable to the veterans she cared for which helped make her memorable to me: several
residents went out of their way to tell me what good care she took of them, which does not happen
frequently or with all students. Her work at the Arizona Veterans Home demonstrated to me that she has
a strong therapeutic presence that will serve her well as a nurse. Overall, she was very successful in our
course and consistently demonstrated strong academic and clinical skills. Rebecca also has
demonstrated leadership ability throughout her time in our nursing program and has served on multiple
committees both within the College of Nursing and the wider University. I highly recommend Rebecca for
any nursing, new graduate position, or advanced nursing degree program, and feel she has the strengths
and skills to be successful in multiple types of nursing. Please feel free to contact me if you have further
questions.
