Catholic Ministry at the University of Idaho

Dear Vandal Catholic Family:

St. Augustines Catholic Center is thriving on the campus of the University of Idaho!
We are evangelizing students with the beauty of our Catholic faith and offering an
engaging encounter with Jesus Christ. Our mission is to live, foster, and proclaim
the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the University of Idaho, and with your support we can
continue to do so.

After celebrating our 50th Anniversary last Winter, we formed a Strategic Planning
Committee to grow on our successful past. Our vision is to be a vibrant and
accessible community in which Christ is truly present, a place where students come
to encounter Christ. The committee was tasked with assessing and planning for the
growth of our programs and their impact on our facilities. While our program
continues to grow, we know that there are still many students who do not know
what, or who, St. Augustines has to offer.

We are seeing a tremendous amount of spiritual fruit from our efforts. We have an
average of 50 students at our weekly campus ministry night and an increasing
number of people at Mass and Adoration. FOCUS missionaries are continuing to
reach out to the periphery with their presence on campus and to offer opportunities
to encounter the Lord, especially through their Bible Studies. Throughout the
semester, we welcome relevant and engaging speakers to speak on important
issues. In the last couple of years, we have sent six students off to formation in
various religious communities and to our diocese.

One significant challenge we face is that of aging facilities, which are generally worn
out and not handicap-friendly. To address these challenges and put St. Augustines
on good footing to serve Catholicism in the 21st century, Bishop Peter Christensen
asked me to explore replacing our facilities and expanding our program to include
residential housing for 100 students and a house of discernment. This is a very
exciting prospect which has the potential to further concentrate Catholic
evangelization on the campus of the University of Idaho for many decades to come!

covering our programs expenses, from offering dinner for our students once a week
to helping subsidize retreat expenses.
