Topic Selected: What are some of the innovative tools that research says is
suitable and works great for distance education? Choose one or highlight several
tools that work in distance education according to research.

1. LITERATURE REVIEW:
What does the literature/research say about this issue/topic? By using NAU
Library or Online Search engines, conduct a literature review.
You need to include 5 different sources (book, journal article, web article
etc.) in your review. Try to use current sources as much as possible.
You need to summarize and synthesize your sources by discussing a
common theme or issue.
You don't need to critique your sources
You don't need to evaluate your sources (if the sources are trustworthy,
weather the author has a bias or not)
You need to provide background information such as history and
definitions

Brief Literature Review:


So, there are a lot of benefits to using long distance education, and the main
problem that it tries to solve is to connect people with one another who are in
different countries. Somebody in Russia could receive their masters degree from
the university of Houston without ever having to leave Russia. That is the beauty
of long distance education. The tools that these articles stated that long distance
education teachers should incorporate in to their learning programs are:
computers, cell phones, websites such as moodle, ebsco, the proper use of
search engines, video/ written conferencing, phone calls etc. These tools are all
intended to make long distance education as smooth as possible, but just using
online education can create problems. These problems include: having to keep
software up to date, paying to keep wifi and servers up at the school, students
not having much experience/ knowledge when using the designated site for
learning, phones can cause more harm than good to a students education, but
overall the pros drastically outweigh the cons of distance education. The simple
fact that people can connect to one another through a video conference and
receive an education is amazing. Video conferences can be extremely convient
for both professors and students, because this means that they do not have to go
out somewhere or waste any time trying to get to the designated location in order
to teach/ receive their education.
2. REFLECTION:
What is your personal opinion on this issue? Do you agree with the
research? If you agree or disagree, please explain why?
Provide examples/experiences regarding this issue from school
perspective or If you are not working in a school, from your profession. Be
specific with your examples. You can mention software/hardware names,
specific methods that you plan to use, etc.
How would you implement this research in your career? (At least 1
paragraph)

Reflection: Distance education tools are so beneficial, that even people in a traditional
learning setting can implement them in to their lesson plan. Video conferencing being of
the most versatile tools that one can incorporate to their lessons. This can be used if a
teacher is out sick and would still like to teach their class, or if a teacher would like to
have a guest speaker without them really being there in the classroom are all some of
the great examples of the benefits that using technology in distance education. I
personally agree with the tools that the articles stated. All of them are academic articles
so not much bias can be placed in to them, which gives me more of a reason to agree
with them. I personally have had problems using software that professors want us to use
in online classes. I personally have not used prezi before, so that could be somewhat
troublesome for me, but I know that the benefits of learning how to use it will surely
benefit me in my future.
I would implement this research in to my future career by picking the things that do work,
and work well, and implement them in to my classroom. Asking other professors to give
a mini lesson in my class will all be possible due to video conferencing tools. Also, I
would bring some form of technology in to the classroom where students get to use
ipads or chromebooks for their assignments. My highschool gave everyone computers
and professors started assigning more things online. So, a way to ensure that everyone
has access to the internet, even struggling families, is to provide everyone with a
computer that they must return at the end of the year
