Talking like this ram and lakhsman along with sita took bath in the

Godavari. They offered oblations to demigods and forefathers. When

sun rose, they worshipped sun god and glorified other demigods. After
taking bath, Ram shone along with lakhsman and sita just like lord
rudra shines with parvati and nandi. They return to the hermitage, offer
puja , do homa, both brothers sit in the ashram, sages visit ram.

One day , suddenly ravans sister suparnakha arrives there --- she saw
ram . rams face was effulgent, arms long and eys were large and
beautiful like the lotus . his walk was slow like elephant. He had matted
locks of hair on his head. Very soft, very powerful, endowed with kingly
qualities, shine like blue lotus, beautiful like kamadeva, and valiant like
indra --- seeing ram immediately suparnakha was afflicted with lust.

Sumukham durmukhi ramam vrutamadhyam mahodari

Visalakhsyam virupakhsi sukesham tamramurdhaja

Priyarupam virupa sa susvaram bhairavasvana

Tarunam darna vridha dakhsinam vamavhasini

Nyayavrutam sudurvruta priyam apriyadarshna

Rams face was cute and her face was ugly, rams waste was thin and
suparnakhas large and potbellied, rams eyes were large and pleasing,
suparnakhas eyes were ugly and fearsome, his hair beautiful and
shining her hair were red like copper, rams look was very pleasing, but
that of suparnakha very ugly and fearsome. Rams speech was sweet
but demoness had coarse voice. Ram was always in his new youth, but
the demoness was thousand year old. Ram was gentle and
compassionate, suparnakha was hypocritical. Ram was well mannered
and was strict adherent follower of religious principles, but she was
sinful. Ram was very pleasding and lovely to look at but one would
generate hatred upon looking at suparnakaha.

Afflicted with lust , she spoke to ram : in this dress of sages and ascetic,
having matted locks of hair on the head along with wife, and keeping
bow and arrow, who are you to have come here to this land of demons.
What is the reason of your coming here, please tell me everything.

Ram : . History of his banished, he is my younger brother lakhsman,

and she is my wife sita other introduction, now can I get your
introduction, whose daughter are you, what is your name, whose wife
are you, your all the limbs are so beautiful that I think you are a
demoness who can take form as per wish. Why have you come here,
please tell all these things nicely.

Suparnakha : burning in lust for ram : I am telling everything as it is. O

rma, listen to me. My name is suparnakha, I am a demoness who can
take any form as per ones wish. While generating fear in the minds of
all living beings, I roam in the forest alone. My brothers name is ravan,
perhaps you have heard his name. ravan is son of visrava, my other
brother is kumbhakarna, whose sleep is immense. My third brother is
vibhisan, but he is religious. He does not follow the behavior of the
demons. Khar and dusan are also my brothers, who are very powerful
in war. O ram , in power and valor, I exceed my these brothers. I have
fallen in love with you at first sight. Hence I have come to you to have
you as husband . I am endowed with influence and I can wander
everywhere at per my wish. Hence you become my husband for long
time. What you will do with this weak sita. This sita is ugly and
deformed, hence she is not fit for you, I am compatible with you. Hence
see me as your wife. This sita , according to me is very ugly to look at,
deformed, human, potbellied, haggish I will eat her along with your
brother. Then you will romance with me along all these mountain
peaks, and while seeing the beauty of forest roam with me in
dandakaranya.

Ram listening to words of suparnakha, started to laugh loudly and

spoke to her, in his very soft and sweet voice , while mildly smiling, ram
spoke to suparnakha who was afflicted with lust :

Ram : o adorable lady, I am married, my wife is herself present here.

For a beautiful lady like you, it will be difficult to stay as a soutan. Here
is my younger brother lakhsman who is valiant, very handsome tolook
at and is also quite valiant. His wife is not with him. Lakhsman is
endowed with great qualities. He is young and he is attractive. Hence if
he likes and wants a wife, he will be worth your husband. O beautiful
eyes lady, just like rays of sun shine the meru mountain , similarly you
marry my younger brother and serve him always.

Listening to ram , suparnakha went to lakhsman and told lakhsman, I

am worthy of your youth. Hence I can become your wife. When you
accept e , you will roam in whole dandakaranya happily.

Lakhsman -- upon listening to suparnakha, told these words that wer

quite befitting -- o beautiful lady whose shine is like lotus, I am the
serant of ram and am obedient to ram. Why do you want to become a
maid servant by marrying me. My elder brother is endowed with all the
great qualities. You become his younger wife. By this all your desire will
be fulfilled and you will be always be happy. Your beauty is worthy his
qualities. Giving up a ugly, haggish, deformed , old, and shameful
bellied wife, ram will enjoy you only. Who is that intelligent person who
will give up a beautiful lady like you and love a humanly figure ?

Suparnakha, not able to understand the sarcasm , thought the words of

lakhsman to be true -- came back to ram and spoke lustily ram , by
taking shelter of this ugly, haggish, deformed, old and sunken bellied
woman , you are not adoring me. Hence while you are seeing I will eat
this humanly lady and roam with you when this soutan is dead.

Suparnakha, with coppery red eyes, very angry attacks dear eyed sita
just like come fearsome comet attacks rohini star. Ram , while stopping
that demoness by his humkara, addressed lakhsman : o lakhsman , one
should not even joke with cruel people, just see how a great fear has
arrived upon the life of sita. O lion among men, you should make this
ugly, large bellied cruel demoness bereft of some limb of her body.

Lakhsman cuts off the nose and ears of suparnakha with his sword in no
time. With her nose and ear cut off, suparnakha cries very loudly and
runs back to the forest. Drenched with blood, that fierce demoness
started to shout loudly in fearsome sound . while the cut limbs were
bleeding heavily and with her two arms raised, she entered a deep
forest. She ran to her brother khar who was surrounded by many many
demons and fell flat before him just like lightning falls upon earth. She
had taken a bath in blood and related everything about ram and
lakhsman and sita to khar.

Khar : seeing his sister like this cut limbed and bleeding , started to burn
in anger and asked : sister get up and tell me about you, give up fear
and tell me frankly who has done you deformed like this, who is daring
to give pain to a poisonous snake which is sitting idle before him with
his own finger ? one who has cut your nose and ears has drunk poison
willingly and has put the death noose in his beck himself , still he is not
able to understand it in illusion. You yourself are like yamraj for other
living beings, and are endowed with valor and can roam anywhere and
take nay form as per your wish. Still who has done such deformation to
you that you have come here in pain. Who among al the demigods,
gandharvas, ghosts, sages is there so powerful that he has deformed
you today. I do not see anyone in the world who dares to displease me.
Even the king of demigods indra would not dare to do such cowardly
act. Just like swan drinks the milk from water , similarly today I will
drink the life air of that person through my arrows. Who is that person
whose chest has been shattered and killed by me, earth wants to drink
his blood : today herds of birds will eat the flesh of that person in
happiness. Whom I chase in war, he can not survive even by help from
demigods, gandharvas ghosts and demons. Come to your senses and
slowly tell me the information of the person who has dared to do such
defeat to you.

Suparnakha : while shedding tears from eyes : brother , there are two
youth who have come to the forest, they are handsome and powerful
their eyes are large like lotus, they are wearing tree bark and dear skin.
Fruts and roots are their food, they are sense controlled, ascetic and
celibate. They are sons of king dasrath, ram and lakhsman. These two
brothers look like gandharas and are endowed with kingly qualities.
These two brothers are whether demon or demigod, I can not
understand. Amongs them there is one youthful lady , whose waste is
very beautiful. She is ornamented. Because of that woman only, these
two brothers together have done such deformation of mine. I want to
drink the blood with foam of that hypocritical lady and of those two
prince. To drink the blood of that woman and those men in war, that is
my primary desire , which should be fulfilled by you.

Hearing this from suparnakha, khar very angry, instructs 14 demons,

who were like yamraj -- two men with weapons and having black
dearskin have trespassed into this forest along with a woman. You go
there, kill those two men and the lady, my sister wants to drink the
blood of those people. Fulfill the desire of my sister, when in war these
men will be killed by you , my sister will be very happy and then she will
drink their blood very happily.

Suparnakha and these 14 demons fly to panchavati --- the demons saw
ram is sitting with sita in the parnashala and lakhsman is also present
there in his service. Ram saw the demons coming with suparnakha.
Ram told lakhsman to wait with sita for sometime and he will kill the
demons come with suparnakha.

Ram to demons : we are sons of dasrath, here doing austerity and

celibacy, why are you trying to do violence on us. You are all sinful and
offender to the sages . at the instruction of sages only I have come here
with my bow and arrows to kill all of you. If all of you want peace then
stay there only and do not move . and if you want your life then run
away from here.

Raising there spear, with coppery red eyes, the demons cry that ram
has offended khar and angered him. Hence ram will die at the hands of
them and ram is alone they are many, what power ram has before
them. The spears thrown by them will kill ram all the 14 demons at
once attack ram with sword and other weapons ram war. Ram takes
14 arrows, .. demons die with their heart pierced, they fall down
bleeding like cut down trees. Their body were drenched in blood,
seeing that supranakha runs back to her brother, her wounds had dried
and were appearing as if gonda in creepers.

Suparnakha runs to her brother, falls at his feet and cries pitifully and
shed tears. Her shine of face had diminished and she related the death
of the demons to khar. Khar : I had sent 14 demons for your pleasure.
They were al powerful, devoted to me, and welwisher. They can not be
killed despite being killed by anyone. It is not possible that they have
not flowed my instruction. Then what is the reason that you are fllin
here crying o lord and like a beaten snake you are tossing. Tell me, give
up your fear ---

Suparnakha : ..what happened seeing all those demons killed by ram ,

and the demons lying dead on the ground in no time, I have developed
big fear in my mind. I am fearful , agitated and in lamentation. Hence I
have come again in your shelter. Why do not you save me from the
ocean of lamentatinon where I amd drowing and shark of lamentaion
reside. If you have mercy on me and the dead demons , and you boast
of your prowess , then you kill ram . ram is a thorn for demons in
dandakaranya. I have lost my respect, hence if you do not kill ram
today, then I will give up my life today before you .

Suparnakha : with my intelligence I can see that though you are

powerful in warfare still you can not stand before ram in war. You think
yourself as a hero but you do not posses much valor. Fool! Either you
kill those two brothers today or else along with your relatives run away
from janasthan today. Rama and lakhsman are human beings, if you do
not posses power to kill them , then how can weak demons like you
stay here. You will be destroyed by the power of ram being defeated at
he earliest, because the son of dasrath is very powerful. His brother is
also very powerful, who has cut y nose and ear.

Suparnakha fell before her brother crying, beating her belly and
became unconscious

Khar , insulted by her sister before everyone shouted : o sister !

because of your criticism my anger has immensely multiplied. It is
uncontrollable just as the high tide water of ocean in the day of full
moon. I do not see ram as a warrior with regards to his valor, because
the life span of that human is now finished. You stop your tears and
give up the fear. I will send ram and his brother to yamlok. Today you
will get to drink hot blood of ram who is killed by my spear.

Khar orders dushan to arrange for 14000 demons to go with him for
attacking ram -- he asked his chariot to be brought and put in it lot of
weapons arrange as per my liking walking soldiers who wont run
away from the battle, who are fast moving, who are as black as the
clouds, those who like to cause violence to the people, and are
enthusiastic for fighting. To kill ram I want to go ahead of the demons.

Ravan listening to the words of maricha returned back to lanka and

went to his palace.

Suparnakha becomes aggrieved to see ram alone killing all the

demons. She started crying loudly and agitated went to lanka.
 She sees ravan is sitting upon on the top of puspak viman . ravan

is shining like a bright king and he surrounded by ministers like indra is

surrounded by maruds. The golden throne ravan was sitting was
shining sun. just like sprinkled with ghee the sacrificial fire burns
heavily, similarly sitting on that golden throne ravan was shining bright.
Demigods, gandharvas, ghost and sages were incapable of defeating
him. Ravan was looking like yamraj who is standing with his mouth
open in the batte field. The wound marks he had sustained by
thunderbolt and sword during war with demigods and demons were
still visible . the wound created by airvat trunk in his still was still
visible. He had 20 hands and 10 heads. His umbrella, chamara and
ornaments were worthy of looking at. His chest was broad. He was
endowed with kingly qualities. His bodys effulgence was the same as
that of the blue sapphire that he was wearing. He was wearing golden
ornaments also. His arms were beautiful, teeth white, large face and
body was large as mountain. Marks of thousands of weapons during
war was visible in his body. The limbs of ravan which could not be
destroyed by weapons of demigods , could agitate the ocean. Ravan
used to do all work fast. He used to uproot the mountain peaks, make
demigods cry, cut the root of religion and used to rape others wives.
Ravan was expert at skills of using all the divine weapons, and he was
regular at creating obstacles in sacrifice. Ravan went to patala bhogpuri
and defeated vasuki and kidnapped wife of takhsak after defeating him.
Ravan went to kailash , defeated kuber and usurped his puspak viman.
Ravan used to regularily destroy the chaitrarath forest of kuver,
nandanvan of indra and nalini pond of lotuses. Ravan used to stop the
moon and sun when they were rising with his mountain like large arms.
He had did austerity in one forest fro 10000 years to get boon from
bramha while sacrificing his heads. He had no fear of death from
demigods, demons gandharvas, ghosts birds animals serpents except
humans. Ravan used to destroy the samaras which was purified by the
chanting of mantras during sacrifices. He used to destroy the sacrifeces
that were nearing their end and kill the bramhans. He was cruel and
hard hearted. Ravan was always engaged in harmful activities for the
people.

Suparnakha saw her cruel brother who was to give fear to the whole
world and who used to make the living beings cry. Ravan was sitting on
the throne , decorated with divine cloths and ornaments, garlands were
increasing his beauty. Ravan was looking like mahakal abut to destroy
the whole world.

Suparnakha : o king of demons, you have become selfish and are

engaged in unprecedented sense enjoyment without any thorn. For you
there has arisen great fear. You ought to have known all that , but you
are not aware of all that. The king who becomes absorbed in lowly
sense gratification and becomes greedy, the pupil do not respect him
like the fire of crematorium. The king who does not render his duty
himself in proper time, then he gets destroyed along with kingdom and
along with the duty. The king who does not engage the spy for looking
after the people, one who is rare to be seen for the people, and who
gets absorbed in enjoying women thus loosing his freedom, citizens
reject such a king just like the elephants remain away from the mud of
river bed. The king who does not bring back the land he has lost to
enemy kings because of his own neglect, he never shines just like a
mountain that has sunk inside the ocean. O demon, your nature is as
flickering like a child. You are foolish. You do not know those things that
are worth knowing. In this state of affair how come you can remain a
king. o victorious king, those kings who do not have spy , wealth and
law are not in their control are equivalent to common people. The kings
collect information about everything by engaging spy, hence they are
called as far sighted. I think you are surrounded by foolish ministers,
because you have not employed spy even n your own kingdom. Your
own relatives are dead and janasthan is destroyed, still you are not
aware of all that. Only one ram alone. He made the sages fearless and
established peace in janasthan. O demon you are absorbed in greed
and lust and hence have become dependent , hence you are not aware
of the fear created within your own kingdom.

Suparnakha : the king who behaves roughly, whose nature is harsh,

who gives too less payments to the servants, who is absorbed in lust
and pride, and by nature is cheating, for his time of need and difficulty,
all the living beings give up his association and do not come forward to
help him. The king who is arrogant, worthy of disrespect, who thinks of
himself great and is always angry, when that king is in danger even his
own relatives kill him. The king who does not does his duty or does
those things that are forbidden, and does not become fearful when fear
has arrived or is not careful upon need for protection, he becomes
bereft of kingdom soon and becomes infinitesimal like a blade of grass
very soon. There is need of a dry wood or mud or dust for people , but
there is no need of a deviated king for people. Just like a cloth that is
worn or a garland that is ambushed under feet in useless for others ,
similarly the king who has lost his kingship is useless for others.

But a king who is always careful, who always keeps information of the
kingdom , who keeps his senses under control, is grateful and by nature
is religious, that king usually rules for long time. People worship that
king who sleep by his gross eyes but by his subtle eyes is asways awake,
and whose anger and compassion are directly visible.

Suparnakha : but o ravan your vision is polluted, and you are bereft of
all these great qualities of a king, because you have not been aware of
this destruction of the demon clan with the help of spy. You disrespect
others, engrossed in sense gratification, and not aware of the proper
divisions of place and time, you lack proper deliberation of good and
bad qualities and you do not employ own intelligence at proper place.
Hence you will loose your kingdom quickly and you will fall into
destruction soon.

Hearing from suparnakha, ravan was thoughtful and asked suparnakha

after some time : who is ram ? how much is his strength, how does he
look like and how is his valor, why did he enter the deep forests of
dandakaranya ? what type of weapons does ram have that he alohne
killed the demons and khar, dushan, trishira ? tell me in detail all who
has cut your nose and ear ?

Suparnakha : boiling with anger : ram is the son of dasrath ,his arms are
long, eyes large and beauty is like that of cupid. He is wearing tree bark
and black dear skin. Snatching his bow to his ears, he showers his gold
studded arrows. Even I could not discern when ram would pick up the
arrow, when he would string it and when he would shoot it. I could
onlyh see that by his arrownteh army of demons have been killed. Just
like by the rain of hailstorm, a nice grain field is destroyed, similarly by
the arrows of ram, demons have been destroyed. Ram was alone and
was on the ground , but only in three hours ram destroyed the entire
14000 demons and he made the sages fearless. Saintly ram, in the fear
of killing a woman, only deformed me and left me. He has a powerful
brother whose name is lakhsman , who is equal in strength to him. He is
powerful , dear to his brother , sharp in intelligence, undefeatable, he is
like rams right and left hand and like soul who is walking outside the
body.

Suparnakha : rams wife is also with him. She is very dear to her
husband and is always engaged in serving her husband and pleasing
him. Her eyes are large and are pleasing like full moon. Her hair, nose,
thigh, and form is beautiful and lovely. She is as if the demigoddess of
the dandaka forest. And second lakhsmi. Her body resembles molten
gold, nais are high and red, she is endowed with auspicious qualities.
Her every limb is lovely and wasge is beautiful and thin. She is the
daughter of king of videha and her name is sita. There is no one as
beautiful among demigods, gandharbas , yakhsas, kinnaras . I have
never seen as much beautiful woman as her in the three worlds.

That man whose wife is sita and with jubilation she embraces him , he
is the most fortunate person in the world. Her gentle mannerism is
pleasing, her every inch of body is praiseworthy and attractive. No
second woman can come close to her beauty. She is only fit for you and
you are only fit for her. Then you will become the best husband in the
world. Her thigh are broad and breasts well formed and high, when I
tried to make this beautiful faced sita your wife, then cruel lakhsman
deformed me. When yousee the moon faced sita , you will become
enchanted by the arrows of cupid. If you want to make sita your wife,
then immediately take your right step forward. Considering the
prowess of ram and your prowess do the best to make this prettiest of
all sita your wife. Now knowing that ram has killed all the demons and
khar and dushan you should do the needful.

Suparnakha came and fell to the ground before ravan, ravan asked
what does she want, suparnakha told ravan that ravan has made her a
widow forcefully.

Suparnakha : you are powerful , hence you have made me a widow

forcefully, you have killed fourteen thousand demons named kalakeya
in battle , among them was my husband whom you also killed. You are
a brother name sake only. You factually came out to be my enemy.
Despite being my real brother, you killed me by your own hands. Now
due to you I will be called a widow. You are like my father. My husband
was like your son in law, , is not it that you should have protected your
son in law or your brother in law in battle. You yourself killed your son
in law in the battle, dont you feel ashamed even now,

Ravan : daughter, to cry now is useless, you should not be fearful in any
way, I will satisfy you with charity, respect and mercy. I was absorbed in
war, my mind was not in proper place, I was only interested in winning
the battles, hence I kept on shooting arrows continuously, sense of
ownership did not reai in battle, hence I could not recognize my son in
law in the war. This is the reason that your husband is killed by me.
Now whatever is the duty , I will do whatever is pleasing to you. You go
and stay with khar, our mausi son, khar will be the master of fourteen
thousand demons, he will send then as he likes and will empower them
with food drinks and cloths, this mausi brother of ours is capable of
doing everything, khar will go to dandakaranya and dushan will be his
military general. There khar will be the master of demons who can take
any form as they like and he will follow whatever you say.

Ravan sent fourteen thousand demons with khar to dandakaranya.

Suparnakha went to stya with khar there.

Ravan weighs the different options before him, then steadies his mind
on sita, and then determines it to be appropriate to kidnap sita after
consulting with his ministers. He secretly goes to his chariot stable,
orders his driver to make his chariot ready, driver makes it ready
immediately, the chariot was being driven by donkeys whose face was
like hobgoblins, and the donkeys had golden ornaments, the chariot
make sound like ghar ghar and was capable of going any where as per
the desire of the occupant. Ravan reaches the bank of the ocean.
