Sounds of the Storm

Objective: Students will preform the dynamics of the sounds of a storm by using creativity and
instruments.

Grade: Third Fifth

National Core Standards:


1. Generate and conceptualize music ideas and work
2. Organize and develop musical ideas and work
5. Develop and refine musical techniques and work for presentation
10. Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make music

Connect to content area:


The connection to other content areas could be in science relating to storms, condensation,
precipitation, etc. Students could take the knowledge that they have about storms such as the
noises and events that occur and turn it into music using any instrument of their choice.

Step-by-step process:
Ask the students what different parts there are to a storm. Answers could include but not
limited to: lightening, thunder, rain, wind.
Count the students off into groups of approximately 4 students per group.
Explain to them that they can use any instrument in the room and create a song that represents
a thunder storm.
Make sure they have a distinct beginning and end to their song.
