Reader,

This blog is my final portfolio for my ENC1101 class I am taking at the University of

Central Florida in Fall 2017. The class itself was a discourse community that valued learning

about rhetoric, and through discussions, helped each member grow as a writer. The texts on this

website are proof of this growth; they are all the major writing assignments I had to complete for

this class, and alongside those assignments are my revised versions as well as reflections on

those revisions. I highlighted the changes that were made, and the reflections explain why the

corrections were made. All the assignments are under their individual tabs: the papers are

enumerated, and their corresponding reflections can be found under them. The final reflections

for the entirety of the course can be found under the the "more" tab (if available on your device).

The first assignment that I had to complete was an Autoethnography, which was a way to

research a community I was part of and apply terms from our class readings to it. The main

concepts discussed were literacy sponsors, Discourse, rhetorical situations, and an analysis of

how these affected my writing.

The second assignment was a more in-depth analysis of my writing process mentioned

briefly in my previous essay. The paper consisted of breaking down my writing process how I

do it, and most importantly, why I do it. The paper describes my process, the effectiveness of it,

and what changes may need to occur for me to improve as a writer.

The third assignment was a project on rhetoric. The first part of this assignment was a

collaborative project where my group was assigned an analytic which was applied to a

community we chose. After each group presented their analytic, we then had to write an

individual essay how a different analytic presented applied to the community our group chose.
My paper was on how ethos, pathos, and logos appeared in a journal about the teaching of

programming.

The fourth and final assignment was a genre analysis of a writing assignment given to us

in a non-writing class. The purpose of this assignment was to demonstrate how different aspects

that are studied in rhetoric can be applicable to an endless number of disciplines. I chose a lab

report I was assigned in my Chemistry Fundamentals I class, and through this I explained how

rhetorical concepts are not limited to English classes.

This portfolio demonstrates how I have grown as a writer throughout the semester as I

have learned more and more about rhetoric and its application, and it also gives some insight on

how writing studies apply to different communities in different ways. I hope you enjoy

Best Regards,

Isaac Salazar
