d) Identify and analyze figurative language.

Activity The activity will assist students in recognizing and comprehending


figurative language.

The teacher will type up sentences that possess figurative language.


They will then separate those sentences out on different sheets of
paper/ cards. The teacher will then mix the cards up and have
students draw one at random.

The student will draw a sentence at random from the teacher. Once
everyone has their sentence the students will look at their
sentences and determine the type of figurative language that is
being used. The students will then use Storyboard
(www.storyboardthat.com) to create comics of both the literal and
actual meaning of the sentences.

The teacher will walk around the room answering questions and
assuring everything is done correctly and appropriately.

The teacher will then gather all of the comic strips and present them
to the class.
Pedagogy

This activity will help students understand and recognize figurative


language in text. It does this by giving the student a visual
representation of the language.
Technology Technology used will be www.storyboardthat.com that allows

students to create their own comic strips. The students will use this
website to create and display their work.
