Name of Lesson___Sorting the Fruit Developmental Domain _Mathematics and Science_________________

General Objective: Child begins to develop knowledge of patterns; Child shows increased knowledge and
memory for details and routines. From NE Early Learning Guidelines

Type of Activity: Individual Small Group Large Group

Materials Needed:
Sorting fruit- plastic colored fruit
Sorting fruit baskets- have a strip on them that is the color written on the bucket
Lesson Objective:
The student will be able to identify and sort 3 pieces of fruit with complete accuracy.

Procedures:
Teacher seats toddlers on floor in circle.
Teacher dumps bucket of sorting fruit on the ground.
Toddlers each pick 3 pieces of fruit out of the pile (may get more if there are more pieces,
but each will have at least three).
Teacher places buckets on the ground with the colors facing out to the students.
Teacher asks for anyone with a certain colored fruit or vegetable to come forward. (ex:
Anyone with a red fruit or vegetable come on up!)
Students bring items forward.
As they put them in the bucket, teacher asks if they know the name of what they are putting
in the bucket.
Look over your plan and check using the SMART formula; Check after activity as well and
make the appropriate changes

S- What will the child be able to do? (Identify the color and name of the fruit or vegetable)

M- Measureable (amount of objects correctly sorted and named)

A- Attainable- Can accommodations be made? (Toddlers can focus on fewer items. They can
focus on relearning colors and vegetables/fruit more outside of this lesson.)

R- Relevant- sorting by one attribute, color identification, object identification

T- students will learn to do this with higher accuracy over the course of a month

Documentation: See attached completed checklists.
