Reflection
In the beginning of the semester, my writing started off a bit shaky and my thoughts were
all over the place. As the semester progressed however, my writing skills improved but I still do
struggle with some minor issues such as creating a great thesis statement. The most significant
changes to my writing has been my ability in structuring my thoughts in order for my essay to be
coherent and have smooth transitions. The most difficult challenge I have faced in this writing
class is finding credible articles for the essays we wrote, more specifically for the Project Text
essay. I do not feel like I overcame this difficulty because I struggled all three times we were
required to use supportive evidence from the Oviatt Library. To be more successful in my
writing I will have to look ahead of time at essay prompts so I can start to organize my thoughts
early and have enough time and leisurely find credible sources to support my argument. I can
also apply this method to my academic career by taking advantage of the opportunity given to
me when an assignment is posted ahead of time. By doing this I will increase the amount of time
I have to work on the assignment and also increase my chances of receiving a higher score on the
assignment. In order for me to be even more successful in my academic career, I must also
remember the things I learned and I can achieve this by always using the techniques we learned
and applying them to not only school life but somehow also incorporate it to my life outside of
school. As my first semester in college is coming to a close, I do not feel a specific way towards
my writing. I have neutral feelings about it. I dont think I have gotten remarkably better at
writing but some subtle improvements were made that I greatly appreciate. For a while I
struggled with writers block but as Professor Rodrick has told us, If you have writers block
and cant think of anything to write, then write the word write until your brain forces itself to
form a sentence. I can say from personal experience that it does work so thank you Professor
Rodrick.
