Illustrator files must be compatible with Adobe Creative Suite CS3 or earlier.

Illustrations created within MS Word or Excel

format often do not reproduce well.

Figures can be inserted into the columns or spread across a page at A4 width. Never place an image in the middle of a
paragraph. Always put a large image that spreads across the two columns at the top or the bottom of a page, not in the middle.

Captions: All figures, tables, and illustrations must have a numbered caption.

Copyright: All illustrations that are not the authors own photographs or drawings must have copyright clearance. It is the
responsibility of the author to obtain this clearance. Illustration captions or a List of Figures should cite necessary copyright
information.

Formatted Files
Manuscripts may be submitted in finished form as Word, InDesign, or .pdf files. Text should be formatted to above
specifications. Files saved as .pdf using Adobe Acrobat, need to be set at the PressOptimized/High Quality Print job
description. These files must be accompanied by the original Word or InDesign files in case changes are necessary. Please
also submit digital illustrations.

Copies of the digital images should be sent in addition to the main files above.

Files should not be too large (keep chapters of reasonable size) and are best handled on CD/DVD, zip disk, memory stick or
removable HD. Files up to 2GB in size may also be sent via YouSendIt www.yousendit.com.

Formatting by Archaeopress
Text should be supplied as unformatted Word files + printout. All text must be thoroughly spell-checked and proof-read as
Archaeopress cannot undertake copy proofing (but if required, such services can be arranged for a fee). Once the text has
been submitted to Archaeopress, no further amendments will be possible. Archaeopress will correct only mistakes made on its
part.

Original illustrations must be of good quality and no larger than A3. If submitted already scanned, illustrations should be saved
to the specifications above.

If the layout of the manuscript is to be carried out by Archaeopress, please do not integrate images into the original text file
the images will be placed as close as possible to the relevant reference. Any images that have been drawn or scanned to a
particular scale must fit within the margins of our A4 page layout. Anything larger will have to be reduced, possibly causing
the stated scale to be incorrect. Please indicate clearly in correspondence which images are drawn or scanned to scale, so that
these images can be kept at their original scale.

Authors will receive only one set of proofs of the Archaeopress formatted book. Any further proofs will be charged for.

Terms
Authors of single-author publications receive 10 free copies of their work and may purchase further copies with a reduction of
35% on the retail price.

The standard provision for multi-author volumes is for the editors to receive a number of copies of the publication, and the
contributors a .pdf file of their contribution. All may purchase copies of the full publication with a reduction of 35% on the
retail price.

Postage is not charged on the initial provision of authors free copies, but will be charged on further orders.

Copyright remains with the individual authors. The publishers undertake to supply free copies for review upon request.

Authors/contributors are asked to include a list of current postal address and email details with their submissions, and to inform
Archaeopress of any changes of address. Archaeopress does not usually impose time deadlines, but requests that authors keep
the managing editor informed of progress at least twice a year.
