Cabling requirements for PGND cables are as follows:

10-2 Huawei Proprietary and Confidential Issue 03 (2010-05-04)

Copyright © Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
BTS3900
Installation Guide 10 Installing the Cables

l The PGND cables for the base station must be connected to the same ground bar.
l The PGND cables must be buried in the ground or routed indoors. They should not be
routed overhead before they are led into the equipment room.
l The exterior of the coaxial wire and shielding layer of the shielded cable must have proper
electrical contact with the metal surface of the connected equipment.
l The PGND cable and signal cable cannot be bound or entangled. A certain distance must
be reserved between them to prevent interference from each other.
l Fuses or switches cannot be installed on the PGND cables.
l Other devices cannot be used for the electrical connection of the PGND cables.
l All the metal parts in the housing of the equipment must be reliably connected to the ground
terminal.

Cabling requirements for E1 cables are as follows:

l The E1 cable cannot cross the power cable, PGND cable, or RF cable when routed. If the
transmission cable is routed with the power cable, PGND cable, and RF cable in parallel,
the spacing between them must be greater than 30 mm.
l The E1 cables must be neatly and elegantly routed and securely bound with cable ties.
l Extra length of E1 cables must be reserved when they are curved.

Cabling requirements for the optical cables are as follows:

l Do not stretch the optical cables, step on the cables, or place heavy objects on the cables.
Keep the cables away from sharp objects to prevent damage to the fibers.
l When the optical cables are routed, the extra length of the cables must be coiled around
special devices, such as a fiber coiler.
l When coiling the optical cables, apply the strength evenly. Do not bend the cables with
force, thus preventing any damage to the fibers.
l Cover the optical connectors that are not in use with dustproof caps.

10.2 Cable Routing Principles

Electric Connection Checklist

Table 11-3 describes the electric connection checklist of the cabinet.

Table 11-3 Electric connection checklist of the cabinet

1 All self-made PGND cables are copper-based with the proper wire diameters. No
breaking device such as switch and fuse is allowed for the electric connection of
the grounding system. No short circuit is allowed. Each terminal on the grounding
bar can be connected with only one wiring terminal of the PGND cable.

2 The redundant part of the power cable or PGND cable is stripped off rather than
coiled.

3 The lugs at both ends of the power cable or PGND cable are securely soldered or
crimped.

4 The bare wires and the terminal handles at the wiring terminals are coated with
heat-shrinkable tubes.

5 The flat washer and the spring washer are well mounted on all OT terminals.

6 All cables are connected securely and reliably. Pay special attention to the cable
connections at the bottom of the cabinet.

7 The cables are neatly and tightly bound. The cable ties are evenly spaced and face
the same direction.

8 The power cable, PGND cable, feeder, optical cable and the E1/T1/FE signal cable
are bound separately with a spacing of larger than 30 mm.

9 The cable layout facilitates maintenance and future capacity expansion. And the
bending radius of the cables meet the requirements.

10 All the labels at both ends of the cables are legible.

11 The extra length of each indoor cable tie is cut, and the cut surface is smooth
without sharp edges. An extra length of 3 mm to 5 mm is resereved for each
outdoor cable tie.

12 The idle connectors of the cables are properly protected.

13 The connectors of the RF cables are fixed in position to avoid false connection
that may cause an abnormal voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).
