1. For our Mini-Lesson on Similarity, our goal was to introduce similarity in a way that allowed
students to work with the material in a hands on way, as well as giving them a chance to use the
newly learned vocabulary. I think we achieved this goal in that all of our students, most of whom
were part of the group itself but are not math students, were using the language and were able
to go up to the board at the end and give explain how they got the answers to their problems.
Our objective was for students to be able to summarize their answers using the vocabulary
words and to evaluate the similarity of two polygons. By the end, the students had completed a
vocabulary activity and multiple examples in their groups and with the teacher. The goal was
2. We were aiming to challenge the students in vocabulary which I think we achieved. We had
numerous vocabulary words, each of which we defined and used throughout the class. I tried to
encourage the groups to talk amongst each other using the vocabulary words so they could
practice using them in a sentence and become more familiar with the words. The teams
managed to work through all of the activities and discussed at length with one another.
3. While the lesson went smoothly, I would have liked if the other teachers had a better idea of
what was going on. There was not a lot of team work per se and it felt like, as the leader, I was
expected to also be the teacher. The lesson could have gone smoother if I wasnt the only one
who understood similarity and the vocabulary words. Im sure it was obvious but I was the one
who made the lesson plan, who told them what to say, who found all of the activities and who
taught the lesson. I might as well have been doing a solo project. To be honest a solo project
would have been easier than trying to help them look like they knew what they were doing.
4. If we were working with actual ELL students the lesson would likely happen at a slightly slower
pace. Id really try and be familiar with the students current language knowledge and try and
use that to build upon the new vocabulary words. We did that in our original lesson but we
would have emphasized it a lot more. I really think to vocabulary activity we did on the
computer would have been especially helpful for the ELL student as it was fairly simple and
