1. The classroom environment is organized and friendly. Moreover, the classroom has a
bulletin board that has updated grades and current news event occurring in the school.
Also, there is some personal work that has been completed by students and 3-D diagrams
2. The physical environment of the classroom is warm and inviting. The walls are painted
light-blue, 38 desks, 2 tall file cabinets, 2 tall cabinets, 3 white boards, 1 smart-board, 1
pull down screen, 1 projector, 1 CPU with speakers, 1 phone, 1 teachers aide desk, grey
carpet, 1 trash can. Also, the classroom is decorated with posters of how the brain works,
posters of the Incas and Aztecs, poster of the World Map, 1 set of windows, 1 analog
3. The student make-up of the classroom consists of 17 females and 13 boys. Furthermore,
11 students are African American, 15 Hispanic, and 4 Caucasian. It is obvious that the
students have multi-cultural back grounds and different personalities. There is a student
aid in the classroom that grades papers and full-fills tasks that the teacher requires.
4. Rules- Follow directions and procedures, be seated and start working when the bell
rings, bring a pencil and an open mind every day, no food, no drinks, no electronics.
Each period has a Social Contract written and signed on a poster board for each period.
5. Ms. Lomeli does enforce the rules but allows students to talk during teaching. Its
obvious that students do not really care about class. For example, cell phone use is not
allowed but students still use them during class. Consequences: warning, seat change,
meet with teacher or counselor, parent contact, referral, violent behavior or overt defiance

7. Attention class, can we please be quiet so we can start the lesson, alright guys!
8. Cell phone use, talking, sleeping, eating food on class, and students not paying
attention.
1. The work flow of the classroom begins with students getting settled in their seats and
then Ms. Lomeli begins the lesson for the day. Before and after the period begins, Ms.
Lomeli asks the students if they have anything that they would like to talk about, ask, or
share with the class. Also, this could be related to the daily assignment or just anything
in general. For example, a student shared that it was his brothers birthday today. After
that, students are given the assignment for the day. Everything space-wise is used
effectively, the walls are decorated with learning tools that will aid students during class.
Also, the white board has lesson plans displayed for the week. The bulletin board has
current news of school events and current grades posted of students for each period of the
day. Despite the classroom having almost 40 students, the classroom is set up efficiently
1. The school has a big parking lot with speed bumps. All entry ways going to the
parking lot have gates and sidewalks have large rocks in between the parking lot to create
a barrier. There are trees and various plants throughout the school grounds. The roads
surrounding the school have crosswalks, reduced speed limit signs during school hours,
and stop signs in the parking lot. Moreover, the school has a baseball field, football field
with a track, and tennis courts. In addition, the school looks like it has been around for a
while and excessively used without long needed renovations to the campus.
2. The school definitely has a feel of Indians when walking in up to the school, along with
the name and pictures seen in the office. The halls, flooring, doors, and windows are all
old. The paint is old, room numbers on doors are faded, and food/trash on the ground in
the hallways. The school lighting is adequate, but you can tell that the light fixtures are
old. The halls and outside of the school are painted blue, light blue, and yellow. No
decorations are noticed walking through the halls, but most teachers rooms are decorated
well. The most disturbing thing about the school is that it has little to no security.
During each of my visits, I know that I would be able to walk through the school grounds
and no one would care that Im on school property. I saw no teachers, administrators, or
school police as I entered the school grounds. Personally, this is definitely being a bad
Mission Statement- Cheyenne High School prepares students academically and socially,
enabling them to be well-equipped to pursue their goals and become successful members
Personally, I feel no pride amongst the students in their school, and definitely dont feel
any community pride surrounding the school. The only reason I know that there is a
school here is because you can see it from the road and I have to conduct my field
2. Entering the school office there are 2 student helpers and the office secretary. The
front office is very small. Moreover, walking through the halls I see students lingering
around and a lack of supervision amongst teachers to prevent students from lingering in
the hall ways. Personally, I feel that the students would just rather get the school day
over with than actually learn. For example, cell phones are excessively being used in the
classroom and constant talking over Ms. Lomeli throughout the majority of the class day.
3. Students conduct most of their interactions anywhere on campus. The school seems to
allow a freedom to converse at any time during the school day with each other. I do feel
that there is open communication between the students and teacher. I just dont believe
that the school should so much negative social interaction during class. For example, the
use of cell phones in the classroom. The majority of students have no filter to know
4. The main school office, gym, cafeteria, and auditorium are on the first floor. The
athletic office, library, and other administrative offices are on the second floor. All
classes are labeled with teacher name, type of class, and class number on a laminated
made sign. Overall, the school looks out of date and needs renovations. The school has a
courtyard in the middle of the school, the classes and offices are fixed in place around the
courtyard accordingly.

3. It takes a few minutes for the class to settle down. For the most part, students do not
get out of hand and have a good relationship with the teacher. But, the majority of
students are usually using their cell phone and not paying attention throughout the period.
Moreover, there is not much rule enforcement in the classroom. Cell phone use is an

liked being bossy and grade and handout homework. She decided to enroll in college

I observed students doing the right and wrong things in the classroom and school
grounds. It is obvious that cell phone use is an issue at Cheyenne High School. Personally, I
learned that it is going to take a lot of self-discipline, patience, and preparation when I become a
teacher. The school environment was sub-par in my opinion and needs a total face lift from a
physical observation inside and out. Furthermore, this observation better prepared me to
understand the teaching profession by allowing me to understand that there is never going to be
enough time to prepare for a lesson, I should always have a contingency plan if the plan I have
isnt working, and it should be the most rewarding job that I do, as long as I keep inspiring and
create young positive citizens for this country. Throughout my observation, I was able to relate
my experiences in our text book and class activities by incorporating a reflective method that I
use with personal experiences in my life. In conclusion, I will always remember to use visual
and audial lessons in my classrooms so that my students can find ways to relate with their
