Chapter 3

METHODS AND PROCEDURES

This Chapter presents the methods and procedures,

sampling technique, the measuring instrument, the data

gathering procedure and the statistical tools that were

used in this study.

Research Design

This study made use descriptive-correlation design.

Under this method, it answered the queries on the

measures of crimes against property specifically on Theft

incidents as perceived by the Maila Rosario College

students relative to Police Visibility and Police

Community Relations. It also tested the difference and

correlate the degree of significance on the given

hypotheses.

The researchers made use of questionnaire to gather

data in this study.

Respondents of the Study

Respondents of this study were the students of Maila

Rosario College presently taking up Bachelor of Science

in Criminology composed of 50 students coming from all

Year levels.

Data Gathering Tool

This study made use of survey questionnaire to

assess the measures of crimes against property

specifically on Theft incidents as perceived by the Maila

Rosario College students relative to Police Visibility

and Police Community Relations. .

Part 1 of the questionnaire includes the background

information of the respondent.

Part 2 of the questionnaire determines the measures

of crimes against property specifically on Theft

incidents as perceived by the Maila Rosario College

students relative to Police Visibility and Police

Community Relations.

Data Gathering Procedures

In pursuing this study, the researcher sent a formal

letter request addressed to the Dean of school of

Criminology, Maila Rosario College requesting for the

conduct the study.

The respondents were allowed to respond to the given

questions to avoid errors and inaccuracy of their

answers.

After retrieval of the questionnaires, the responses

of the respondents were objectively recorded, tallied,

computed, and analyzed.

Statistical Tool

The data on the profile of the respondents was

analyzed using the frequency count and percentage

distribution.

The data on the measures of crimes against property

specifically on Theft incidents as perceived by the Maila

Rosario College students relative to Police Visibility

and Police Community Relations was analyzed using the

weighted mean. Weighted mean was further interpreted

using the scale below.

t-Test was used to determine the degree of

difference between the assessments of the respondents on

the measures of crimes against property specifically on

Theft incidents as perceived by the Maila Rosario College

students relative to the above dimensions.

Pearson r was used to correlate the assessments of

the respondents on the measures of crimes against

property specifically on Theft incidents as perceived by

the Maila Rosario College students and their profile

variables.
