About this ebook

"Seasons of Faith: Religious and Spiritual Poetry"
By Peter Menkin, Obl Cam OSB

MILL VALLEY, Calif. (Release Date TBD) Poetry, on the other hand, offers us deep riches of meaning with a remarkable economy of words. This was an art of wisdom often chosen by the mystics of the West and popularized by the hymnodists. In this sense, poetry and particularly Christian poetry continues to offer a counterpoint to the dry, wordy explanation that often stupefies the human spirit more than it edifies. From these lines, poet and author Peter Menkin, Obl Cam OSB, takes readers on a contemplative and inspiring journey and adventure through his collection of meaningful poems, Seasons of Faith: Religious and Spiritual Poetry.

In this collection of contemplative poems, readers will uncover a very old challenge to the people in the 21st century a challenge not unlike that penned by some favorite Anglican poets across the ages. Through this moving and distinctive anthology that also depicts the poets colorful character, they will find a blend of humor, personality, poignancy, spiritual reflection, and popular culture. Seasons of Faith: Religious and Spiritual Poetry captures readers senses and give them a reflective experience allowing them to boost their spirit and inspire them to live a meaningful life.

Spiritually inspiring, filled with insights, and life altering, Seasons of Faith: Religious and Spiritual Poetry is an engaging poetry read that everyone will surely enjoy.

Brother Menkin's book of spiritual poetry has something for anyone seeking to add a new component to their contemplative practices, or just for a pick-me-up, or something to get you through a busy day. Many of his poems touched something in my own memory and soul, grabbed me, pulled me in, made me pick up my Bible or Book of Common Prayer to dig a little deeper. I especially liked "I Desire to See Good Days," and "Advent," and will use them with my Anglican Prayer Bead meditations. My favorite: "Coffee, You Flavor My Life." I saw a man sitting in a coffee shop somewhere, maybe a Starbuck's in San Francisco's Financial District, seeing a woman who attends his church - and he goes every day hoping to see her, talk to her. Or, it could be that he's meeting a woman who left him? Read it, and make your own decision about this, and Brother Menkin's wonderful, refreshing poetry.

Yes, another five-star rating - and because the work is that good.

Cover art, Photograph by The Reverend Doctor Sally Brower, Assistant Priest at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, Charlotte, North Carolina USA: taken in Italy. The shrine is in Barbischio Italy. It doesn’t have a specific name beyond that.

My art emerges from the intersection of the deepening of the personal spiritual life and participation in the communal life of faith. Through photography, I retrace the footsteps of Christian pilgrims and record the vestiges of their journeys, the shrines, altars, and thin places where they meet God. My art is both my spiritual practice and an invitation to others to awaken to the mystery of God, risk holy encounter, and cross the threshold of their heart’s deep hopes.
