During my internship I was able to teach a wide array of CTF courses. While teaching these courses I received wonderful and
constructive feedback from my University Consultant, amazing and supportive Teacher Mentor, and three different growth
minded Administrators. The fact that I had not only one, but three administrators, observe my classes speaks to the
community that is present as G.S. Lakie. The entire staff works together exceptionally well and everyone is committed to
helping others grow.
Outside of my Teaching load I made an effort to be involved in as many extra-curricular activities as possible. Working in a
lead or support role I was engaged in: Volleyball, Basketball, Cross-country, Robotics & Coding, CTF Innovative Build Project,
Advanced Technology Supervision, Halloween Activities, Staff Retreat, Teacher Technology lead PD, and the School Play,
among others. This wealth of extra curricular experiences has provided me with the self-efficacy to know that I am a capable
and skillful team leader, and supportive role player, and I plan to take these experiences and leverage them in the future.
One of my goals at Lakie was "To develop an open and honest relationship during my internship with all members of the G.S.
Lakie Middle School family; including staff, parents, and students". I believe that in extension to being a capable teaching
professional, it is the relationships you foster that will set yourself up for success. There were many different moments during
my internship that I remember thinking to myself, and having others comment, that I was achieving this goal. One example of
this was my final UC observation. At the time it was nearing the CTF course term end; to start the class I began singing 'The
Final Countdown by Europe' to signify to my students, that our course was coming to an end. Without dropping a beat, the
entire class of 33 students began singing along with me and we shared in the moment together. For me, and I think for my
students, it was a special moment where we could reflect on the course experience. As I went on to explain there was only a
few classes remaining there were several students express how they were upset it was coming to an end, or that they would
miss having the class. I believe this experience showcases how I formed a relationship over a 12-week course with 33 grade
7 students.
In conclusion, I am so grateful for the internship experience I had at G.S. Lakie Middle School. The community welcomed me
with open arms and I was able to share my knowledge, skills, and abilities with some of the most dynamic 10 to 13 year old
students I have ever met. I truly enjoyed working with the Staff/Parents, at Lakie; but mostly importantly I appreciate the
students who have shaped me as an educator, and I am proud to have had the chance to positively influence these students
in their progression towards becoming critically thinking, responsible, and innovative young adults.
