Brief instructions of The teacher creates an account and has an overview of all of the classes that they have. The
how to use the tool students are then given the classroom code and a personalized password that the website
generates for the students when the teacher signs up. With this online tool the teacher is able
to post reminders about upcoming assignments or even links of informative videos for their
students to watch. Students are able to reply back and post their own updates if they have
any questions. The students only sees information for their specific class, but the teacher is
able to connect their class to a class somewhere else, almost like a pen pal, so that the
students and teacher from that class are able to bounce ideas off of one another and
collaborate together.
Ideas for how the tool Elementary level students:
can be used in PK-12 I would use this tool as a way to send students reminders about homework and upcoming
tests or projects.
If a student is working on their homework and do not understand something they are able
to reach out to other classmates and their teacher to more fully understand a problem.
This tool is a great way for students to get help while they are at home so that they do not
have to wait to go into class the next day to ask a question.

Middle and High School Students:

Once again I would use this tool as a way to send students reminders about homework,
tests, and other assignments.
With this tool I would also be able to post assignments that I want to be completed.
The website allows for the teacher to post messages to the whole class or send a note to an
individual student.
I am able to post test prep materials to help students study for upcoming tests.
For this grade level I would find another teacher and class to connect with to collaborate
with on special assignments.

Positives and Positives:

challenges of using Easy for students and teachers to use to communicate with one another.
the tool A great tool for asking questions when it comes to homework, tests, quizzes, and other
assignments.
This tool is a great way for teachers to make sure that students known when deadlines are.
Great way for students and teachers to collaborate with other students and teachers.
Negatives:
Files are not very easy for teachers to upload.
When uploading files it is necessary for the teacher to first create the project/file
somewhere else and then share the link with students.
Students will not always get a response back to their questions right away.

Ideas for how the tool Second Grade

can be used in PK-12
Writing: 2.12 The student will write stories.
a) Generate ideas before writing.
b) Organize writing to include a beginning, middle, and end for narrative and
expository writing.
Idea #1:
Students will utilize Debategraph to make a bubble graph of their ideas for
an original story authored by the student. The main idea will be typed into
Map Title followed by issue additions chronicling the beginning, middle,
and end for the narrative. Other issue additions may be made to develop
character names, traits, etc. The claims function can be used to justify points
of the story. Students are to use the rollover section to further detail their
thoughts.
Idea #2
This could be used as a collaborative tool by allowing students to work
together to form ideas for a group writing.
Fifth Grade

ons and make inferences from text.
j) Identify cause and effect relationships.
Idea #3
The teacher could use Debategraph as a collaborative tool. Students
would be arranged in small groups to analyze the same fictional
text. Each student in the group would use Debategraph to generate
a map that had issues such as text-to-world and text-to-self
connections. A bubble could be added entitled character
development. Each student in the group would add their own
thoughts individually but the group could view it and rate each
idea. Other bubbles will be added to show plot development,

conflict resolution, vocabulary, points of view, main idea,

summaries and cause and effect relationships. Once the
collaboration has been completed with all opinions mapped, the
group would then meet face to face to pare down the ideas for an
oral presentation about the book to the class.

Positives and Positives:

challenges of using
the tool 1. Debategraph is an excellent organizational tool to help
students map their thoughts before writing a story.
2. The use of this tool will allow for collaborative experiences
to share thoughts about an assigned reading.
3. The ability to communicate and add ideas virtually will allow
students to share ideas outside of the classroom.
4. The color-coded spheres and roll-over options give clarity
to the students ideas.
5. Help tools are readily available on the same screen.
6. Videos and images can be embedded.

Negatives:
1. The terminology used in the application is quite sophisticated
and may be too complex for younger users.
2. Although there is a private/public function, it is concerning
that the student-user may not always remember to select the
appropriate setting.
3. By using the rating system, students could feel intimidated
that their ideas may not be the most favored ones.
