Goals/question: Briefly information about Senegal

Note:
Senegal is the country in the part of west africa. Senegal located near the sea.
However, most of the country part is the land which are not connected with the sea. So this
caused that the main career of the people in senegal is agriculture. Senegal used to be part
of french and they are ruled by french for long time. After 1960, they become independent
and have their own president and policy then started to collect the taxes. Senegal
confronts many problem such as poverty or disease. Most of the citizen encounter with the
poverty problem. They are lacked of money, education and food, and this caused to
disease.

Reflection: I think this country encounter that same problem as Thailand, but maybe much
worse than Thailand. Since they faced with the poverty problem that hard to be solved, and
poverty is the cause of many problems such as lack of food, education or gain disease.

Goals/question: History of Senegal

Note:
Senegal used to be part of french in 1985. French used Senegal as the country that
make money for them. They gain slaves from senegal and tell them to crop the same type
of plants. This cause to the land that used to crop those plant in the past cannot crop now.
So in 1960, Senegal became independent from french. Then having there own president to
ruled the country. They created their own policy to use instead of the old rule that frech
created for them. In 200, political change they started to collect the taxes from people.

Reflection: I think that french have the big roll to change Senegal. If they dont become a
part of french they might not encounter as much problem as this. On the other hand, if
they dont be a part of french they might not survive because they cannot learn how to
trade or communicate with other country. I think that frech might be the causes of poverty
in senegal. Because of the agriculture, frech told senegalese to crop more than fishing. So
people rather do crop more than others.

Goals/question: What did the government do to fix the poverty problem in Senegal?

Note: Government provide a plan of reducing poverty in Senegal. They reform the
economic of the country, this makes the Senegals economic greater in 2 years. They
started to export and trade with other country with their own product from fishing and
agriculture. So people provide the job to each other more. People crop more so that it
reduce the price of the food or crops which are the main resource of the country. So people
can buy the food in the less price and gain more benefit by producing enough stuff to sell
to others. This could help to reduce the poverty in the country. Another thing is the
government provide the land to the people to do agriculture. So they can crop in the bigger
place.

Reflection: I think this one of the great way to solve the problem of poverty in Senegal.
Since it can reduce unemployment and poverty in the city. However, the result is not
obvious enough because not all of the population have a job but they still change the rate
of poverty in the country though. This could make the Senegalese have a better life in their
country. Since they can have the jobs that can gain the money to their family. Also, it can
reduce the disease of the country. Thus, people can afford the clean food, water and
healthcare.

Goals/question: Where (city or province) is the problem worse in your country - local level -
and state information/data/statistics showing how/why it is worse?

Note:
The poorest province in the country is Kaolack. Kaolack is the administrative centre
of the Kaolack region and it is located near the Saloum River. Its population is around
200,000. In 2002, the city has about 65.3 percent of poor population in the city who
confront with the absence of needs. According to SOS Childrens Village, life in Kaolack is
extremely difficult and preventable diseases still cost lives in the city. It is also one of
Africas most polluted cities. Kaolack lacks of all consumption which are food, clean water
and sanitation, and education. Lack of clean water and sanitation specifically leads to
malaria, yellow fever, and cholera. Furthermore, people have a lower payment, but they
have the higher expenditure that they have to pay for everyday. Thus, people of Kaolack
suffer more poverty.

Reflection: In my opinion, I think government of Senegal should let people clean their
house and area surround their house to decrease the disease. Since government of Senegal
has a lot of pollution. Next, they should provide them a job and educate them about the
work. So that, people can have a money and better life. Also, government of Senegal should
provide citizen a good healthcare.

Goals/question: the cause of poverty in Senegal-Kaolack

Note: The first main causation of poverty in Kaolack is unemployment. Kaolack faced the
high unemployment rate which leads to a less payment and hard working. Second
causation of poverty is environment. Since Kaolack have to cope with the weather that not
considerate to do archiculture. Also the land that in the past French told Senegalese to
crop one type of plants, and it affects the dirt to be hard to crop. This leads to the third
causation which is resources that not enough for the whole country. Therefore, people who
have a less payment cannot afford the high price of consumption and this cause to the bad
economy and sanitation of people in the country.

Reflection: In my opinion, I think that poverty problem should be solve from this country.
Since it caused many effect after poverty. If people are poor, they will not have enough
money to buy clean food. So people will get the disease from the dirty food and water. So it
caused many trouble disease that makes people die. Also, they should educated people
about how to crop, to live a healthy life, or to do job. This might help people get a better life.
