1 AP2000 Application Processing
Blades
1.1 Logical Processing
A 14U Application Processor Blade has three possible functions:

Link Processing

- Data processing from the Interface Boards

Application Processing

- Main system functions

- Application layer functionality on the monitored data traffic

Master Board Controller (MBC)

- Processing performed by an Application Processor Blade with a built-in hard

drive, which is assigned the special role of System Controller.

- Controls power and reset to main processors, monitors voltage and

temperature, reports alarms to front panel LEDs and CMM.

1.1.1 AP2000 Series Application Processor Blades

The AP2000 Series blades contain two dual-core 2.0 GHz Intel Xeon processors. All blades
connect to the dual Gigabit Ethernet base interface on the backplane. The blades have a socket
for a hot-swappable Advanced Mezzanine Card (AMC), which is used to identify the specific
version of the AP2000 blade as shown in Table 1.1.

Most all blades are compatible with both the CC2000 and CC1000 chassis models, with a few
exceptions.

1.1.1.2.2 USB Connector

The AP2000 provides a USB 2.0 port. The USB port is normally not used in the SpIprobe 14U
system. Serial Port Connector

The serial debug port for the AP2000, accessible on the front panel, is an 8-pin modular RJ-45
jack. The serial port operates at 9600 baud with eight data bits, no parity and one stop bit.
