Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood is an non profitable organization, which means most of their income

comes from the donations people make when they go in for service. They help individuals

manage their fertility, regardless of their income, marital status, sexual orientation, age, or

ethnicity. Margaret Sanger opened the first birth control clinic in the 1900s. Many do not agree

with a clinic like Planned Parenthood because they believe they are against baby human lives.

But many also do not know what else is offered by this clinic.

Margaret Sanger is the founder along with Fania Mindell, and Ethel Bryne, her two

sisters. And it was opened on October 16, 1916 in New York City, NY. Planned Parenthood

provides health care services in a setting which provides protection to privacy and rights of the

individual, programs that help educate individuals on implications of human sexuality, promote

research and information on reproductive health, and to understand behavioral, bioethical, and

societal implications. It appeals to both men and women. About 85% of the people that Planned

Parenthood helps are over 20 years old. 1 in 5 women have visited a clinic site at least once in

their life. Anyone can go, and not worry if they do not have the money to pay for a checkup

because they do not exactly take payments, instead they make a donation. This is a clinic who

offers all kinds of services for those who wish to become educated about contraception,

sexuality, and options if they become pregnant.

 The main opponents are pro-life advocates which includes organizations such as CMP

(Center for Medical Progress). Planned Parenthood promotes risky sexual behavior in children.

(1). Opponents of Planned Parenthood use rhetorics that provokes emotional reactions. Mainly

reaching audiences who are pro-life. Aspects they focus on are topics like, abortions, gender

identity, and sexual identity, and birth control. Those who are pro-life do not accept a clinic who

service women who want an abortion. It is killing a human being. (1). On The Top 10

Reasons to Defund Planned Parenthood article, they state that Planned Parenthood should stop

getting help to run their business because they are killing babies in the womb, performing illegal

abortions, failing to uphold safe health standards, Planned Parenthood has nany services they

offer, and 3% is abortions. Pro-life advocates do not realize that Planned Parenthood also has

services who help those who do not wish to get pregnant. They offer various forms of birth

control, and education on sexuality.

Hillary Clinton endorsed Planned Parenthood in her Presidential Race in 2017, and so did

Barack Obama. Prominent donors and the funds for the group are received by the Federal

government, through Medicaid. They also receive many donation through the website, as well as

the donations they get when people use their services. 82,000 people donated in the name of Vice

President Mike Pence. Due to the effort of founder, Margaret Sanger, the courts ruled that birth

control would no longer be classified as obscene. Culturally speaking, Planned Parenthood gave

everybody information and control on how they chose to go about their business.
 In conclusion, Planned Parenthood has helped many people manage their fertility. Many

may not agree because they also help sponsor abortions for those women who wish for it. Sanger

did a good thing by opening up a clinic that is accessible to those who may not have the means to

afford contraception, cancer screenings, and STD testings. They have the means to help prevent

unplanned pregnancies. They need to come up with a way to advertise themselves as more than

just an abortion clinic because that is not the only service they provide.
