Objectives
As a result of this lesson, the student will be able to:
1) explain the process of selecting a candidate for the elections.
2) assess the medium through which fund raising is done.
3) demonstrate an appreciation for transparency and accountability
in election funding.

Prerequisite Student Knowledge

The student should be familiar with:
1) who a candidate is and what purpose this individual serves in the
electoral process.
2) the different type of electoral processes that are practiced in the
Caribbean specifically First Past the Post and Proportional
Representation.
3) the many party meetings that take place throughout an upcoming
election and how expensive it may be to organize some of these
staging.
4) some of the techniques used by your own politicians during an
election in order to get citizens to vote for their part to become
government.

Important Points
1) Remember that this lesson is not in isolation with the other aspects
of the electoral process and system it means therefore that a sound
understanding of the previous lessons are essential in
understanding this and the others to come.

 2) References will be made to England and their way of choosing a
candidate as well as how they go about their election campaign.
Please remember that our system is quite similar to theirs and as
such only minimal adjustments will have to be made during
discussions to ensure that students grasp the full understanding of
the process in their country.

 Expected answer to puzzle: Candidate must raise funds in
order to have the necessary resources for their campaign trail.

Computers with internet connectivity, multimedia projector, papers to
make props for the campaign, podium for speeches.

If the materials are not available improvise by using desks for the
podiums and other means of providing props for the role play.
