BootP Server in PC WORX

Device Description Import

PC WORX contains a BootP server that can configure the IP parameters in a controller as well as
in a common IP device.

For the parameterization of a common IP device, at first a generic IP device from the device catalog
must be added to the bus topology in PC WORX. In this context it might occur that such a generic
IP device is not yet contained in the device catalog. In this case, it must be imported in the way
presented above.

Note: If the presentation of the device catalog has been modified and is not available in
standard structure, the presentation might not be identical with the figure above. The
universal IP device then is positioned in another directory.

For device import into the device catalog, click the right mouse button in the device catalog window
and select the Import Device ... item.
Then the dialog window appears in which you can select and open the indicated file. The file is
stored in the presented standard directory. After the file has been opened, the universal IP device is
inserted into the device catalog.

Note: Do not select the Import GSD file item! This item is only to be selected for the
import of PROFINET device description files if PROFINET devices from other
manufacturers are to be operated within the same network.

Configuring an IP Device

In order to configure an IP device, it must be inserted into the bus topology. This can either be done
via drag and drop directly out of the device catalog into the bus configuration or via the context
menu of the device catalog entry via the Insert device into bus structure menu item.

When inserting the universal IP device into the bus configuration, please observe that the device is
inserted into the same level as the controller.

BootP Server Configuration

In order to assign the IP parameters to the configured device via BootP, the BootP requests of the
individual devices must be received and answered by PC WORX. The BootP server must be
configured so that PC WORX can respond to these BootP requests.

At first, the BootP server activated in PC WORX. This happens via the Tools BootP/SNMP/TFTP
settings . In the opening dialog, the BootP server is started by enabling the BootP Server active
checkbox. After that the individual BootP requests on the network are presented in a message
window in the Bus configuration tab.

Note: For some devices the BootP requests are only sent three times after a device startup. In
order to enforce BootP requests for those devices, these devices must be restarted
(e.g. via a voltage reset).

The BootP server in PC WORX is configured by entering the devices MAC address into the MAC
address field in the device details for the respective device. In this way, PC WORX knows that in
the event of a BootP request the corresponding IP parameters are to be sent back to the device
together with the BootP reply including the corresponding MAC address. After entering the MAC
address, the IP parameters are sent to the device within the network. The corresponding message
immediately appears in the PC WORX message window. In this way, the assignment of IP
parameters to each device is finished.
