PCP II has three
directions:
1) that the Filipino may
develop an integrated
spirituality;
2) that the Filipino may
help build a participatory
church, and;
3) that the Filipino
may engage in social
transformation.

UNDERSTANDING
AGGIORNAMENTO:
IMAGES FROM THEOLOGY
AND PASTORAL LIFE
Cardinal Chito spoke on the
theme: THE RENEWAL THAT
AWAITS THE CHURCH IN ASIA.
He identified 5 images that evoke
the meaning and depth of
aggiornamento or renewal.
1. The Renewed Church as
Door or Window. The church
should always be conscious
of its identity and mission.
2. The Renewed
Church sits at
One Table.
Renewal is
building
communion in
the church and
the world
around.
3. The Renewed Church lets
go for New Life.
4. The Renewed
Church
experiences
Conversion of
Hearts and
Structures. A
change of hearts
means moral
renewal in the
church.
5. The Renewed
Church is in a state
of daring waiting.
There is a
continuous tension
between daring to
act now and waiting
patiently for God to
make his presence
truly felt
Pope Francis points to
the pastoral principle:
TIME IS GREATER
THAN SPACE.
2. The Aggiornamento of
Philippine Catholic Schools:
Project Philippine Catholic
School Standards
a Good Start
The CEAP Ad Hoc Committee
identifies 8 defining characteristics.
Allow me to synthesize them into four
(4) defining characteristics:
1. Catholic Education is Christ
centered.
2. Catholic Education is Ecclesial
and Missionary
3. Catholic Education is
committed to Excellence
4. Catholic Education is engaged
in prophetic dialogue.
