The Dow Chemical Company is an American multinational chemical corporation
headquartered in Midland, Michigan, United States. It was founded by chemist Herbert
H. Dow in 1897. Dow deals with plastics, chemicals, and agricultural products. The
company acknowledges the difficulties and challenges the humanity is facing in regard
to climate change and global warming. Therefore, Dow is working extensively to limit
its impact on the environment. The companys website (2017) states that: Chemistry
is critical to this future, which is why Dow has developed a variety of solutions to meet
todays needs, and continues to advance breakthroughs in science and chemistry for
tomorrow. By combining technology advances with new and smarter ways to use
energy, people and businesses can reduce the impact of energy use on society and
the environment.

The Dow is working greatly and creatively to manufacture new products and
technologies that address the challenge of limiting the effects of climate change and
global warming, such as Breakthrough solar shingles, Energy-saving insulation and
roofing materials that reduce carbon footprints ,Biobased dielectric insulating fluids for
efficient-running transformers, and more sustainable energy recovery, States the Dow
website (2017). The Dow Chemical Company also places Integrity, respect for people,
and protecting our planet as its values.

The Dow believes that science can help preventing enormous climate changes.
Andrew N. Liveris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Dow Chemical
Company says in the introduction of the annual sustainability report (2015. P.5):

Sustainability is an integral part of who we are as a Company and how

we do business. Its not just the products we create; its the problems we
help solve. We are at the forefront of innovation, technology and science,
which puts us in a unique position to apply our science to help solve the
problems facing the planet today, including energy, climate change,
water, food, housing and health all through the power of innovation

In the same report, the company reveals some of its environmental achievements.
For instance, since 2005, the company had saved $472 million through annual
absolute energy reduction. Moreover, its annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
were reduced from 44 to 32 million metric tons since 2006. It also delivers $1 billion
to nature-enhancing projects.
In this context the Dow Chemical Company along with the UN Global Compact
strives to fully attain the ten principles indicated by the committee itself. Three of the
ten principles are environmental, which indicates its importance. In that sense the
Dow invented and developed new technologies considering that matter. For instance,
it developed SCI as a tool to review the risks and opportunities associated with our
products, to track the relative sustainability performance of our global product
portfolio.

To conclude, we can say that The Dow Chemical Company is a symbol for
ambitious, creative, and environment friendly companies that work along the UN
Global Compact to limit the climate change and global warming.
