Introduction

Educating Children with learning problems is a major issue due to the fact most of these

children need special modifications. Most children do not get the resources needed when they

have certain disabilities. This article ties in with the major of nursing because it not only has to

do with helping individuals, but also shows signs of improvement and growth. Nursing includes

both of these on a day to day basis. Programs specialized for children in need of help in

certain subjects, should qualify them automatically, and should be given a chance to show

success.

The author of the article Educating Children with learning problems, states an argument

by including rhetorical analysis. Rhetorical analysis consists of the understanding of Pathos,

Logos, and Ethos. In this paper the author shows evidence of all three rhetorical analysis and also

points out the different issues involved. She then provides evidence of the growth of success and

the effectiveness in the final outcome. The author Madeleine Will, argues a good position in

favor of wanting to help make a difference in the overall being of the children's education. This

is an informative and persuasive article, with many different viewpoints and examples.

Discussion

The Author starts out with using Logos, in her argument by using sources, and factual

evidence to support her claims. This is important because it is a scholarly article with

a well defined logical structure. Logos is concerned with the logic of the writer's argument and

factual statements. She firmly states the concept and the application of

an individualized instruction. Although, there are some concerns dispensed from these programs,

she will
elaborate more thoroughly. In paragraph 11, she states "there is a stigmatization of students

placed in special programs which separate them from their peers and regular student activities".

This shows only one issue confirmed by higher authorities proven by statistics.

The Author uses Pathos to support her argument, by using an emotional appeal. Pathos

deals with the emotion that is felt or thought of when reading a paper or article. In order to have

a rhetorical analysis, there needs to be some sense of sentiment included. She states emotional

opinions and shares different ideas, as to how to lead a more effective education. The

author establishes that "children with learning disabilities have constant histories with learning

difficulties", as stated in paragraph 23, with this being said the children have always faced a

hardship when in the academic setting. This is an example of pathos because the author is

providing us with information that affects the way we would reconsider the

learning complications. She then describes how the children can gain more confidence and skills,

when learning a new subject or topic.

The Author appeals to Ethos in order to provide back up for her evidence. Ethos

primarily deals with the credibility and data associated with it. The author must include ethos in

order to complete the process of rhetorical analysis. This might just be the most important of the

three, due to the fact that an author must give credit when needed to the source. She indicates

that children need a more comfortable setting, and attention to give them all the opportunities

required. She provides credibility to the Commission of Excellence, because they are in charge

of the programs and are a major impact when it comes to fundamentals of education. In

paragraph 3, she suggests that " they help us chart new courses which help permit

us to correct the mistakes associated with these programs". Another issue she addresses is the
language and terminology used in the curriculum in the educational system that is full of

separated language and fragmentation that should only be used with regular students.

The author intended for this article to be under the category of a scholarly article.

She intended the use of this material to be for an adult audience. This can also be analyzed by an

academic audience as it is used in this paper, for educational purposes. The overall tone of this

article is informative and persuasive because she wants to inform the audience of the different

kinds of viewpoints and give examples as to what can help impact and make a difference to

benefit the children. One impact is to notify the audience, the challenges the children face, and

how these programs show a difference in a positive manner.

Conclusion

The concluding thoughts of children with learning disabilities is that all students deserve

a fair education. This does not only better themselves, but the whole community because it gives

them certain life skills needed such as independence, and making them a more productive

member of society. Pathos, Logos, and Ethos are significant when writing an academic paper,

because they play major roles when stating an argument. In order to finalize the rhetorical

analysis, authors must include a logical aspect, an emotional aspect, and some form of

credibility. Specialized programs are intended to show a positive outcome for the future, and

help benefit the child's education starting with one student at a time. Students facing these

problems need to work twice as hard as normal students, but the result will pay off. The author's

position was clearly stated, and backed up with evidence, therefore arguing in favor of the use of

particular programs and proves their effectiveness.
