Unit: Sequencing and understanding different dialogue between characters

Lesson: Those Shoes skits

Standard(s) Acknowledge differences in the points of view of


characters, including by speaking in a different
voice for each character when reading dialogue
aloud.
Develop and demonstrate reading skills in response to text by:
d. retelling a storys beginning, middle, and end and
determining its central message, lesson, or moral

Objective(s) 1. Students will create a skit on the book Those Shoes

2. Students will understand the chronological order of a


series of events.
3. Students will be able to sequence and event correctly.
4. Students will understand the different relationships of
characters and the role they play in a book.
Materials Puppets
Copies of the book Those Shoes students can
practice with
Those Shoes book.


Instructional Strategy 1. HookI will read Those Shoes to students
2. I will number off students in groups of four and each
person will be in charge of a different character once
they are with their group. I will assign these.
3. Students will be handed a copy of Those Shoes.
4. Students can practice their skits for 30 minutes. I will
remind them to use different voices for different
characters. I will have modeled this in my read aloud.

5. Closure Students will perform their skits in front of


the class using hand puppets or whatever tools from
the classroom they need.
6. We will discuss what they enjoyed about this lesson.

Assessments In class participation.

Expectations Students are to be working on their skit the entire 30 minutes.


If I see a group off task and give them several reminders, they
will be asked to not perform in front of the class.
