FOUNDATION OF YOGA
PAPER-I
Max. Marks: 100
External: 80
Internal: 20
Time: 3 Hrs.

There will be 4 units. First question is compulsory (10 objective questions of 2 mark each
from all units). The candidate will be required to attempt any 4 questions of 15 marks each,
selecting one question from each unit.

UNIT - I
Meaning of Yoga & Various Definitions, Traditional and Historical development of Yoga,
Importance of Yoga in modern life. Elementary knowledge of types of Yoga-Astang Yoga,
Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Hath Yoga, Kriya Yoga, Gyan Yoga.

UNIT - II

Study of Yoga in various texts - Vedas, Upnishads, Gita, Buddhism, Jainsm and Indian
Philosophy.

UNIT - III

Elements of success and failure in yoga Sadhana According to Hathyoga and Yogasutra.
Study of proper Season, Place. Time and Diet for the practice of yoga.

UNIT - IV

Life sketch of following yogis with important incidents of their lives and contribution in the
development of yoga - Maharishi Patanjali, Guru Gorakhnath, Swami Dayananda, Swami
Shivananda, Swami Vivekananda, Swami Kuvalayananda, Sri Aurobindo.

UNIT - I
Skeleton System: Composition (No. of bones & types), Importance of skeleton system.
Joints-types and structure of knee joint shoulder joint, composition of vertebral column,
structure of cervical/lumber vertebrae.

UNIT - II
Digestive Systems: Structure of digestive tract with special emphasis of function of each
digestive organ for digestion. Physiology of digestion. Effects of yogic practices on digestive
system.

Respiratory System: Structure of respiratory tract with emphasis on their role in respiration.
Physiology of external and internal respiration. Elementary knowledge of various respiratory
volumes. Effects of yogic practices on respiratory.

UNIT - III
Cardio - Vascular System: Its components. Structure & functioning of Heart, Blood, Chief
characteristics of artery & veins. Knowledge of terms like blood pressure.

UNIT - IV
Nervous System: Its types and their elementary features. Components of central nervous
system, their structure & functions. Elementary knowledge of autonomic nervous system and
its major functions. Effects of yogic practices on nervous system & its sense organs.
Excretory System: Organs of excretory system, their structure & structure of Nephron and
physiology of formation of urine. Effects of yogic practices on excretory aspect.

UNIT - I
Concept of Swasth-vrata, concept and definitions of health, elements of daily routine
(Dincharya) Exercise-meaning & types, concepts of yogic & Non Yogic system of exercise
their basic differences. Types of bath & their benefits, concept & need of Sandhya & Havan,
concept & benefits of Sleep & Celibacy.

UNIT - II

Diet - meaning & definition, types (Mitahara, Balanced diet), Components of balanced diet,
concept principles, types & benefits of fasting. Indications & contraindications of yogic diet
& rules of yogic diet.

UNIT - III

Concept & meaning of yogic therapy, Principles of yogic therapy, scope of yogic therapy.
Causes, signs & symptoms & yogic treatment including dietary measures of the following -
Obesity, Diabetes, Constipation, Common cold, Cervical Spondylitis Bronchial Asthma.

UNIT - IV

Causes, sign, symptoms &, yogic treatment including dietary measures & principles of
treatment of - Angina, High & Low Blood pressure, arthritis, Backache, Week eyesight,
Insomnia. Gastric Acidity & peptic ulcer, Indigestion. Naval dislocation its diagnostic
methods, sterns & Anemia.

NATUROPATHY

History of Nature cure, Basic principles of Nature cure. Types of diseases - chronic and acute
diseases, principles of poisoning by waste products, methods for strengthening the Pranic
force, diagnosis of diseases by shapes of body/bodily organs.

UNIT - II

Water-therapy - Importance of water, methods of using water as therapy, effects of different


temperatures of water on body, type of bath and their benefits, Bandages of different bodily
organs in water therapy & their benefits, Enema & its uses.

UNIT - III

Mud-Clay therapy - Importance of soil, its types, characteristics & uses in therapy. Mud bath,
Bandages of clay uses & applications. Sun bath & its uses in different disease, different
colour of sun rays. Importance of air bath & its uses.

UNIT - IV

Definition of Massage, its history & importance, effects of massage on different bodily
organs, types of massage, Role of massage in management of diseases. Principles of
Acupressure, relationship of points of Acupressure in hand, wrist, feet, ankle etc. Application
& limitations of Acupressure therapy.
