5 minutes introducing the topic and having a mini-discussion of what children already know about
Fall
Timeframe 15 mins reading book and discussion.
5 minutes filling out Changes in Fall Worksheet
Lesson Plan 1
Objective(s) of the activity Students will be able to identify weather changes in the fall. Students will be able to identify the
colors the leaves change to in the fall. Students will be able to listen to a story and answer
questions about it.
Connections to standards NYS Early Learning Guidelines:
Procedures (step by step) The lesson will be conducted in a large circle including the whole class. The teacher will ask
students if they know another name for this season, ask students about activities that they do in
the fall, such as apple picking or pumpkin picking and about changes that happen in the fall.
The teacher will read the book and the class will discuss the contents of the book.
Instruction/Mini Lesson
At the end of the book teacher will ask each student to share their ideas about the story.
Independent Practice:
Upon completion of the lesson, tell the children Lois Ehlerts book Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf will be
available in a Reading center. You may read it alone or ask the teacher to read it to you during
free time.
Closure:
have students complete the Changes in Fall worksheet.
