Parody Lesson Plan

Standard: CCSS.Math.Content.6.G.A.1
Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by
composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these
techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems

Objective:
I can compare and contrast the differences between an isosceles, scalene, and
equilateral triangle.
I can create isosceles, scalene, and equilateral triangles.

Motivation:When the students have entered the room and have gotten their binders out and

open to their math section, we will start the day with a quick circle up session. Once that is over

we will begin by asking them what they already know about triangles. After our quick discussion

we will watch our triangles parody. Try- Triangles (Shine Your Way) video (10-15 min.)

Introduction: Once the video is over we will ask the students to share with their neighbor what

facts about triangles they noticed was discussed in the video. Next we will introduce what

triangles we will be learning about today which are equilateral, isosceles, and scalene. (5 min.)

Body:

After modeling how to draw the different triangles, the students will practice making their

own triangles on a scratch piece of paper with a ruler.

Then we will show them a picture of a set of christmas trees that were premade by the

teacher to show them the activity they will be doing.

Students will begin making their christmas trees. They have to make one of each triangle

that we discussed. (isosceles, scalene, equilateral)

Once they have glued their trees onto their paper, labeled the lengths and angles of

each side, and labeled each triangle, they can decorate their christmas trees.

They need to hand in their trees when they are finished and can work on extra

homework or IXL (20 min.)

Closure: At the end of the hour we will regroup. I will have a get out of class ticket for them

where they have to write on a piece of paper the difference between a isosceles and scalene

triangle. They need to hand me their slips and wait for an OK before they leave. (2 min.)

Rationale: This lesson will be great for around the holidays. It will get the students excited and

ready to learn because it combines christmas with math! This lesson will help the students

understand what scalene, equilateral, and isosceles triangles are. This activity has the

combination of Christmas, triangles, finding the perimeter of a triangle, and the angle of the

triangles. This not only meets our standard but also has some music integration by showing our

triangles parody. This is important because it catches kids attention and can make an anxieties

lessen.

"Shine Your Way"

Just before the dawn,

Just before you go

When the light's still gone,

When the Bells not rung

Shine, shine your way,

Just try- triangles

And you may not know, where to go,

We still need to learn a thing or two

Shine, shine your way

Just try triangle

Open road but it's still dark,

Acute ones are a real good start

Build a fire from a spark,

Degrees is what sets them apart

And shine, shine your way,

So try, triangles
Feed the feeling in your heart,

Less than 90 for each point,

Don't conceal it then you'll start,

None of them make the midpoint,

To find, find your way

So try, triangles

No one can stop, what has begun,

Let's all move on, keep learning

You must believe when I say

You must believe when I say

All of your tears will dry faster in the sun,

Angles add up to 180 when theyre drawn

Starting today,

Correctly

Shine, shine, shine,

Try, Try, Try

Shine your way

Triangles

There's an open sky,

Now my favorite one,

And a reason why,

Is a lot of fun,

You shine, shine your way,

So try, triangles

There's so much to learn,

Theres so much to learn

And now it's your turn,

And now its your turn,

To shine, shine your way

To try triangles

There's a feeling deep inside,

One angle must be 90

You can let it be your guide,

Right ones are pretty easy

To find, find your way,

So try, triangles,

And there's no time for us to waste,

And there's no time for us to waste,

Got to take a leap of faith,

Keep on learning everyday,

And fly, fly away

And try, triangles

Don't have to walk,

Dont have to have,

Now you can run,

All the same sides,

Nothing can get in your way

They can be isosceles,

All of your tears will dry faster in the sun,

Two sides that have the same measurements are called

Starting today,

Scalene

Shine, shine, shine,

try , try , try

Shine your way

Triangles

Morning is breaking,

These ones are bigger,

Darkness is fading,
Bigger than 90,

We found a way to the light,

One angle must be obtuse,

It's such a beautiful sight

The other two are acute,

Anytime, anywhere,

Anytime, anywhere,

Turn around and I'll be there,

Turn around and well be there

To shine, shine your way

To try, triangles

Like a star burning bright,

Look how far we have come,

Lighting up the darkest night,

Learning is a lot of fun,

I'll shine, shine your way

Lets try, triangles

Now I can see,

What if theres one,

You are the one,

With equal sides,

Sent here to show me the way

I know we dont call them squares

All of our tears will dry faster in the sun,

Equilateral is what these ones are called

Starting today,

Every time

Shine, shine, shine,

Try, try, try

We're on our way,

Were on our way,

Shine, shine, shine,

Try, try, try

That's what we say,

Thats why we say,

Shine, shine, shine,

Try, try, try

Shine your way

Triangles

There's a reason why

Theres a reason why

You shine, shine your way

You try,triangles

All of our tears will dry faster in the sun

Triangles are what make math and learning fun,

Shine your way

Triangles
