Hi all

Sat ops, air law, both comms, agk and flight planning new style over the past few days. Anyone sitting Ops or Air Law
soon, read the feedback documents and get to know them like the back of your hand!

For Air Law, one of the new questions I did see was asking what the definition of ceiling was in a METAR. It was a
select A B C or D type question, and the answers were along the lines of
A) Cloud base 20,000ft covering at least one third of the sky
B) Cloud base 20,000ft covering at least half of the sky
C) Cloud base 100ft (or another equally low figure) covering less than one quarter of the sky
D) Only one quarter of the sky covered

Personally I wasnt familiar with the definition having not studied Met since mod 1, but I was torn between A and B as
the other two answers didnt seem plausible.

For ops, there was a question I hadnt seen on feedback which asked about altitude alerting in RVSM airspace. I was
slightly put off with the answers they gave as according to my study material in RVSM it is +/-200ft and in non RVSM
it is +/-300ft, but the answers given were
A) +/-100ft
B) +/-300ft
C) +/-1000ft
D) +/-2000ft

I may have had this figure of 200ft mixed up with something else from the mass of information involved with ops and
air law, but I went with the 300ft.

AGK was tricky, and I didnt see too much from feedback compared to ops and air law. It was quite free power turbine
heavy, and I was caught out by a question asking about active clearance control. My understanding was that with active
clearance control it is warm air to the casing to allow it to expand with the blades to provide tip clearance, although the
question asked about COLD air. This threw me off completely as when I left the exam and asked my course mates
about this question they said that it wouldve been using the word cold as relative to the temperatures of the air in the
combustion chamber. Was very frustrated to lose a mark over this wording as clearance control was something I had
studied before going in to the exam! The question was a drop down selection and gave the options for
maximum/minimum clearance, and asked whether the cold air was directed at the blades/disc/casing.

AGK was very electrics heavy, I had 13 questions and the others on my course had between 10 and 16. The C6-1 C6-2
diagram question came up and it was rather banky. I barely had anything on piston engines, and quite a lot on systems.

Flight planning was very hard, I had about 8-9 boxed type in answers worth 2 to 3 marks each which worried me a lot.
Lots of fuel calculations, a few alpha beta gammas which were nice. 3 PDP procedure questions and 2 RCF. A nice
amount from the jeppeson which was a nice aid to getting a few marks boosted. Theres a lot of odd questions floating
about regarding flight plan extracts and picking out information from filled out flight plans.

VFR comms was harder than IFR comms, but again theres a lot on feedback. One new question in IFR was related to
ATC instructing an aircraft to orbit, although they didnt use the word orbit in the question. It asked along the lines of
What phrase would ATC use to instruct an aircraft to perform a turning manoeuvre to delay their time of arrival, and
the answers were
A) Three sixty turn left sequencing
B) Three hundred six zero downwind
C) Something like perform full turn for holding
D) Incorrect

All exams were very doable and the feedback everyone is giving is invaluable, so I thought I had best do my bit and
pass some on too. These were my last six exams and now I am done! Good luck to the rest of you girls and boys x
