Exclusive Features
1. Anti-siphon barriers plus double wall insulation
All underground conduit systerns contain moisture. lf this
moisture passes into the ballast or lamp compartments, the
fixture will fail. By isolating each fixture compartment with
a double wall, terminating each w re in an ant -stphon
barrier, and sealjng the entire space, thls hazard has been
compleiely eliminated. Even if conduit entrances are not
sealed in the splice compartment, rnoisture cannot pass into
the other compartments of the fixture.
After operation, compartment pressure decreases while
ballast js cooling. Motsture cannot be drawn in through
wires DecaJSe o1 Ihe dlti-s phor barr Fre
lsolation compartment conslsts of a sealed chamber
containing all wires, cord seals, and anti-s phon barrlers.
Under normal conditions the lamp compartment will
accumulate a small amount of oondensation. As the lamp
heats up, pressure can force this condensation through
wires into the ballast compartment. The Kim anti siphon
barrirers prevent this from happening. As lamp cools and
compartment is de-pressurized, moisture cannot be drawn
in from the splice cornpartment because of anti siphon
barriers and a totally sealed space between each
compartment.

2. Pressure testing at factory

To insure against porous castings, teaky gaskets, mproper
welds, or siphoning wires, every direct burial fixture is
pressurized to 10 p.s.i. and tota!ly submerged in water. Each
fixture is labeled and certified to be watert ght, insuring our
customers that they have purchased the finest in quality
and reliability.
No other dlrect burial fixture on the market can make this
guarantee because their construction relies on the installer,
not the factory, to insure a watertight fixture. The Kim 5O0O
series is truly the ultimate in direct burial fixture design.

3. lntegral ballast box

Unitized construction is another Kim first in direct burial
fixture design. lt not only means greatly increased strength,
but insures a watertight fixture through factory controlled
sealing and testing.
All other direct burial lixtures on the market use a separate
ballast box which the insialler must connect to the main
fixture with a pipe nipple using thread seal as the only
insurance against water entry. Wlth the Kim ntegral ballast
box, the installer's work is done at the factory where sealing
is guaranteed.

4. Distinctive styling
l\,4any times fixtures must be located in areas where they will
be visible by pedestrian traffic. Therefore, a primary design
consideration for the Kim 5000 serles was io have a simple
elegant shape that would enhance today's architecture. The
rectangular shape is another Kim iirst in direct burial
fixture design.

5. Special reflector for verlical surlaces

Vertical surfaces cannot be uniformly illuminaied with R or
PAR type lamps unless they are spaaed extremely close
together. Recognizing the need for a concealed below-grade
flood light, Kim designers utilized an inverted Asymetron
Reflector (patented) to accomplish what no else has done:
uniformly illuminate a vertical surface from a concealed direct
burial fixture with econornical center-to-center spacinqs.

6. All units pre-wired at factory

To help offset high labor costs, all Kim direct burial fixtures
are pre-wired at the factory. All the installer must do is make
his conduit and field wlre connections in the splice
compartment, install the lamp, and the flxture is operational.
This represents a considerable labor saving feature over any
other direct bur'al fixture on the market.

7. Functional accessories
Recognizing the tremendous range of applications for the Kim
5000 series, a complete Iine of accessories has been
designed lor glare control, vandal protection, and insiallation
ease. Each accessory has been designed to solve the most
common application problems ihat we have encountered
during 40 years of building direct burial lighting flxtures;
anoiher reason why Concept 5000 is the on ly Iog ical choice.

Primary Uses

Landscape and Area Lighting

Landscape lighting can be both aesthetic and
functlonal. Aside from extending the beauty of
nature into nighttime hours, indirect illumination
from well lighted trees can provide a soft area
illuminalion for courtyards. plazas. malls, or
any places where an emphasis on harmony
with nature is desired.

ldentif ication and Security

The identlficaiion ot a commercial
establishment s an essential part of nighttime
merchandising. Now these vertical sign and
wall surfaces can be efficiently lighted from a
concealed dlrect burial fixture because ot an
exclusive reflector specially designed for this
purpose. ln addit on to providing identification,
security is greatly enhanced by sllhouetting
any movement against this illuminated
background. See page B and I for details.

Signs and Accents

Often the design, cost, or vandal problems
make an internally lighted sign impractical.
External llghting of a sign is ideally
accomplished with Concepi 5000 because of iis
concealed mounting and wide range of lamps
and beam patterns available For objects of
considerable helght, highly efiicient 12 volt
"pencil beam" lamps are ava lable in fixtures
with integral transformers. Concepi 5000 is
also rdeal for accenting particular parts of a
siructure for d ramatic effect
