Time Allowed: 3 hours

1. Write your Index Number on the front page and inside the back flap of the Answer Booklet.

2. Write all your answers in the Answer Booklet provided.

3. If you use extra sheets of paper, be sure to show clearly the question number(s) being answered
and to tie each sheet in your Answer Booklet at the appropriate places. Ensure that your Index
Number is written on the extra sheets.

4. Answer all the questions with a blue or black ballpoint pen or ink pen. Do not use red ink. You
may use a pencil only for drawing.

5. You may use a calculator, provided it is silent, battery-operated and non-programmable.

6. There are three sections in this paper. All the sections are compulsory. Note the choice
between Question 2 and Question 3 in Section C.

given on Pages 11 to 14.

(c) In hypothesis testing, what is meant by the phrase level of significance? (1 mark)

(d) A researcher claims that Fijian families use an average of 20 coconuts per
month with standard deviation of 6.

Test the null hypothesis H 0 : 20 against the alternative hypothesis (4 marks)


H a : 20 if a random sample of 64 Fijian families is found to consume an
average of 19 coconuts per month. Use a 0.05 level of significance and state
your conclusion clearly.

(e) X has a normal distribution with mean = 70.
