TIGER
The tiger is found only in the Asian continent; It is a carnivorous predator and is the largest
species of felidae in the world along with the lion being able to reach both a comparable size
of feline fossil-sized mayor.
Characteristics
There are six subspecies of tiger, of which the Bengal tiger is the most numerous; Their
specimens constitute about 80% of the total population of the species; It is found in India,
Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burma and Nepal. It is an endangered species, 4 and at present, most
of the tigers in the world live in captivity. The size of the tigers and other characteristics vary
the male tigers have a weight that is between 47 and 258 kilograms and a length of 190-330
cm including the tail Meanwhile, females, much smaller, have a weight of 24-167 kg and a
total length of 177-275 cm. Most tigers have orange or brindle fur and stripes vary in tone
from dark brown to black.
Territory
Adult tigers are often fiercely territorial and hunt a lot. The tigress can have a territory of 20
km , whereas the territory of the males is much more extensive, covering an average area
of 80 km ; However, the size of the territory depends on the different populations of the
tiger, with larger territories belonging to the tigers of the south-east of Russia than those of
any other tiger subspecies. Male tigers can allow the entry of several females to their
territory, to the point of sharing a prey and even feeding after the female (in the case of the
lion, exactly the opposite occurs, for it is the dominant male that is the first to feed ); But do
not tolerate the entrance of other male tigers in their territory.

Reproduction
A female is receptive only for a few days, and mating may occur several times during this
time. Gestation lasts approximately 103 days, and after this period, the female gives birth to
one to six offspring less than one kilogram in weight.
Adult males may even kill offspring to make females receptive.
At the age of eight weeks, the young are ready to leave their lair and follow their mother.
Young specimens become independent at about 18 months of age, but up to an approximate
age of between two years and two and a half years they are definitely separated from their
mother. Tigers reach sexual maturity at three or four years of age. The young tigresas
usually establish their territory very close to the one of its mother, whereas the males tend
to wander in search of a territory that acquire normally by fights with the male owner of a
certain territory. Tigresses often give birth to a similar number of females and males
throughout their lives.
FEEDING
In freedom, tigers feed primarily on large ungulates, although, like many other predators, tigers are
opportunistic and do not despise small prey such as monkeys, peacocks, hares and even fish. In
Siberia, the main dams of the tiger are the uapit, wild boar, shika deer, roe deer and musk deer,
while on the island of Sumatra, Timor deer, boar and Malay tapir are the prey hunted with more
Frequently by the Sumatran tiger. They are also able to hunt large herbivores such as gaures, water
buffalo and elk. An adult tigress is capable of killing an adult gaur on its own, despite having a weight
less than sixth of the total weight of the adult gaur.
