Cleansing & Consecration

Cleansing

There are several ways to clease magickal tools.

Here are a few ways:

Bury it in earth for 3 days.

Set on a bed of rock salt for 3 days.
Pass through sage smoke.
Wash it in pure spring water, with seasalt.
Leave it overnight during a new or full moon.

Be careful and catiious, when working with certain materials. So items

depending what they are made from will react badly to the sea salt, go
here to check

crystals)

Conscretating

Many spells ask you to consecrate, an object after cleansing it.The act of
consecrating takes place on a new or full moon. The Act of consecration
is: blessing an object with all elements for magickal purposes and
use.Should be done after cleansing.

Consecration riual:

Materials Needed:

Candle, light colored

Sage wand
Dish of salt water
Procedure:
Set up your ritual space, then either cast circle, or meditate until your
mind is clear.
Invoke the god and goddess by saying:
" Great Mother, Great Father, I ask you both to join me as I consecrate
this , for magickal work ."
Light the candle and sage then place your hands on the tool and say,:
" I consecrate this for magickal purpose. It is released from all worldly
energy and carries the energy of the elements ."

Pass it over the flame saying:" By the fire, it is blessed. "

Pass it over through the sage smoke, and say: " By the air, it is blessed ."
Sprinkle the salt water over it and say:" By Water and Earth,it is blessed ."

[As you pass it through the elements, envision the energy filling and
surrounding the object.]

Place your hands over the tool again and say:

" I consecrate this , for magickal purpose.May it bring me transformation,
health, and wisdom. This is consecrated by all elements and this will of the
gods. And it harm to none, so mote it be ."

Optional, but recommended: Thank the god and goddess for joining you
and release them, saying:" Farewell and blessed be ." Let the sage and
candle burn down.

Charging Sacred Items

The ritual of charging items is performed so that the tools, objects you
use get a deeper connection with you which can manifest by greater
success in spell casting also if you loose one of the charged object it will
be easier for you to find it because by charging it you are actually pouting
your life force in it and you are actually personalizing the object-spiritually.

Time:
The ritual must be performed on a full moon or morning sun depends for
what purpose it is used (the item)

Materials:

A bowl of cold water (better if crystal bowl)

Pin or knife
Item(s), object(s) you are about to charge.

Procedure:

If the ritual is performed at night : Place the bowl in the open so the
moon's light can reflect in it let it stay so for an hour and while its there
you can make a company to the bowl by meditating near it and putting
some will in it (not kidding) for the water is a great agent and collector of
informations and energies.

If the ritual is performed in the morning : Place the bowl under the Sun.

When done with it, place the bowl on your altar or in your front/back yard
on the soil than take the pin or the knife you got before and make your
self bleed but be careful what parts of the body you bleed. All you need is
to drop 10 drops of blood in the water and mix it with the knife or with
hand (but be careful not to put the bleeding hand in it in case you cut your
hand, finger etc)

The water should have very light oringeish color and then you will know
its ready. Place one object after another in the bowl if there are many you
wish to charge but when one is placed in, feel your energy floating down
the arm to your fist while holding the item and that energy going inside the
item. You will know when the item is ready to be pulled out of the water.
Same procedure with the other items.

The water wont go away by itself, it wont vaporize so because of that you
should pour it in a bottle and keep it for other rituals because you have
made that water sacred by mixing your life force with the nature. If you
don't want to keep the water than pour it in some plant do not throw it in
the river or down the draining-it will cause some side effect or worse. And
your items are now charged with your own life force and they belong to
you and you belong to them.

Color Magick

Many people use colors in magickal practices. We see it all the time. For
instance, there are 7 basic colors in the "solar spectrum" or color wheel,
Red, Orange,Yellow,Green,Blue,Indigo, and Violet. In everyday life, we
see these colors often, but many of us see hues, or shades of that
particular color. Such as lime green is a hue of Green.Color magick can
be used through sympathetic, elemental, planetary, and chromotherapy
magick.

The Zodiac signs matched with colors are:

Aries:Red
Taurus:Green
Gemini:Orange

Many practitioners make sachets a certain color, or dressa certain color,

calling on a planetary spirit, to bless the item.
To invoke the planetary spirits, you must use the colors associated with
the planet. Here is a list:

Sun: yellow/gold
Moon: silver/violet
Mars: red
Venus: green

Candle Magick:

Heres some thought for them who think they have never cast any type of
Candle Magick: Most of us have performed our first act of candle magick
by the time we are two years old. Blowing out the tiny candles on our first
birthday cake and making a wish is pure magick. This childhood custom
is based on the three magickal principles of concentration, will power and
visualization. In simple terms, the child who wants his wish to come true
has to concentrate (blow out the candles), visualize the end result (make
a wish) and hope that it will come true (will power). One last note, the
candles you use for any type of magickal use should be virgin, that is
unused. Under no circumstances use a candle which has already
adorned a dinner table or been used as a bedroom candle or night-light.
There is a very good occult reason for not using anything but virgin
materials in magick. Vibrations picked up by secondhand materials or
equipment may disturb your workings and negate their effectiveness.

Casting a circle

Casting a circle is done for many reasons, and though it is always

associated with Wicca, it need not necessarily be limited to this alone. A
circle is cast as a containment, as a protection. Try to think of it as an
invisible force creating a safe space to work in whatever that work may
be. By creating a circle we are psychically sweeping that area clean of
any negative influences or any inappropriate energies, and then creating
a wall or boundary around it so that none might enter while you are
working. The reason behind this is that when we invoke either healing-or
good wishes-or whatever else we wish to invoke within a circle, If there is
anything inappropriate present in that circle at the time, we may
inadvertently have added it to our spell or our healing wish.

This obviously is not a good thing, so a little preparation whilst doing

spell-work will repay you by making your invocations and spells clear and
precise and safe. Before you actually cast the circle therefore, it is
worthwhile standing in the centre of the space that you wish to clear, and
mentally sweeping it with a large broom of white light of energy, so that it
is sparkling and psychically clean! Whilst you do this say to yourself "that
this space be cleared of all negativity and all inappropriate energies, and
may any lost souls inhabiting it be returned to where they need to be." I
use this little mantra before starting any work whether it be a meditation
workshop, an invocation, or a workshop on any sort of psychic
development.

To actually cast your circle, you need nothing other than your own
forefinger (however if you have a beautiful crystal wand or something
similar you may like to use this instead, providing it has been thoroughly
cleansed and preferably offered previously to the Moon Goddess to
bless!) Stand in the middle of your space-relax and focus your energy on
the Crown Chakra. Now allow that it be opened and that pure white
energy flow down on through this Chakra and down your right arm to your
finger. Point your finger to where you would like your circle to begin, and
then very slowly turn, drawing a large circle with the finger, keeping it
even as you work around. It is well to describe this circle three times, to
give your space protection and a firm barrier. (If by any chance you were
doing this with a pet animal in the room, make a mental plea that a little
doorway be left open for them to pass to and fro, but them alone!)

Your circle is now well made! Be sure that when you have finished your
workings, you do a gathering up and windup your circle and do this in
exactly the reverse of how you created it, taking the energy up with your
forefinger but this time allowing it to travel down through your feet into the
ground where it will be transmuted to renewed energy for the earth to
use. This is an easy and wonderful way of creating a circle. Use it for
whatever work you need to do. Its size can be small or huge, but to be
careful when your casting a large circle that you do not impose on
someone else's space- trapping someone else in your circle is not a good
idea and can have very difficult repercussions!

Candle Spells

Choosing a color:

Some people will say that candle color does not matter, but others will say
that it does. Chose a color corresponding with your desire. Colors may be
symbolic of different things, so you may wish to look into the
correspondences between certain colors and their meanings to make
sure they are similar to your intent.

Oil:

Then you need to annoint your candle(s) in oil. Olive oil is preffered by
many because you can aqquire it easily. Rubbing from center of candle to
outter ends. Any type of oil you prefer will work.

The Spell:
You don't need an enormous complicated spell to get what you want. To
create your own spell simply think up a simple little rhyme pertaining to
what you want. Do some visualization (maybe thinking of an image of
getting fancey with a physical picture and burning it to attache it to the
spell) either is good. Always write your new spell down, begin your own
BoS (book of shadows) and share with others if you wish.

Blessing Water

Materials:

1 tsp of Rose Water (optional)

3 tbsp sea salt or Kosher salt
1 small bowl of spring water*
1 clean glass container
1 new compact mirror
1 storage bottle (small)

* Note: Spring water is extremely hard to come by. You may not be able to
trust the bottled water, as it had been determined that many who use it
are victims of false advertising, so be sure you are familiar with the spring
water company. I suggest going on a small hiking trip with a large glass
jar (like the type you buy family-size fruit in), and filling your jar from a
running stream or other ''live'' body of water that is well known for ''good
fishing.'' Cleanse and sterilize the bowl and glass container with boiling
water. Insure that you have total privacy during preparation.

Time: Midnight during a Full Moon phase.

Place: Out of doors under the moon, or near a window that will reflect the
light of the moon.

Procedure:

Set out your work cloth and all ingredients upon it. Take five or six deep
breaths to relieve the stress of the day. Cast your magick circle. Hold your
arms outstreched in the Goddess position (arms out at the sides like you
are cradling the Universe, palms up.) Say: In the cloak of the midnight
hour I call upon the Ancient Power I seek the presence of the Lady and
Lord To bless this water that I will pour.

At this point, you should feel the energy of Earth Mother and Skyfather
move about your feet and head. Feel your own energy expand around
your navel and then unite with Divinity. Take your time; no need to rush.
Add the rose water to the spring water. Pick up the bowl of water, hold it
toward the light of the moon, and say: In my hands I hold the essence of
the Gods. I hereby cleanse and consecrate this water to Divinity that it
may be used for positive acts only and may aid me in my magickal work.
Feel the energy of the Moon Goddess pulsate down into the water.
Imagine her silver light descending from the heavens and impregnating
both the water and yourself.

You will feel a ''glowy'' sensation. Set the water down and picl up the salt.
Feel the power moving in your arms as you raise the salt toward the
moon. Say: In my hands I hold the essence of Earth Mother; she whose
bounty sustains all living creatures. I hereby consecrate this salt to
Divinity that it may be used for positive acts only and may aid me in my
magickal work. As with the water, imagine the energy of the Moon
Goddess empowering the salt. Set the salt down and pour a little into the
bowl of water, and stir clockwise three times. Repeat this process twice
more. With the bowl in your left hand (recieving) and the mirror in your
right (sending), reflect the light of the moon off the mirror and into the
bowl. After a few moments say: This liquid is now pure and dedicated to
the Lord and Lady. It is free from all negativity in any time and any space.

Set the bowl and mirror down and hold out both of your hands, palms
down, over (not touching) the bowl, about one inch above the water. Let
the vibrations of your body come alive. Open your third eye chakra and
imagine a glowing purple light emanating from it. Form and open triangle
with your hands over the water and project the light into it. In your mind,
see the water change color and glow. Feel the power and energy flow
from your head down through your arms and up from your feet and out
from your arms simultaneously.

When you feel the energy begin to dissipate, slowly lower your hands and
say: As I will So mote it be With the free will of all And harm to none This
formula is done! You may ground your energy in two ways. Either place
your hands physically upon the ground and feel the energy drain into
Earth Mother, or imagine your energy as a force field around you, and
quietly step back out of the skeleton of energy and watch it collapse in
upon itself and melt into the ground.

Transfer the water to your storage container and store it away until you
are ready to cleanse and concencrate your sacred space. Be sure to
clean up after yourself by putting all things away in their designated
places so that you will be able to find them again next when they're
needed.

The Kwan yin water blessing: Place the water in a container, place both
hands on the container, sense your energy coming down through the
crown and into your heart, then out through your hands into the water.
Hold the water up to the moon and say. With these hands, with this
heart, and with the pure intention of god, this water is now blessed.
Removing and transmitting all impurity and transmitting it to the light
forever with peace. Amen, so mote it be or whatever you feel comfortable
with ending with. There are a few ways of blessing water, you could also
ask your local priest. Blessings. Ginseng.

Astral Projection

Astral Projection is one of the most amazing experiences you can have. It
is a process by which the human consciousness temporarily leaves the
physical body and functions independently, while the physical body
remains still and passive throughout. There are hundreds of techniques to
Astral Projection but here are a few that I can suggest for beginners to
learn.

THE ROPE TECHNIQUE

This technique has been formulated by Robert Bruce and is one of the
most effective techniques around. A key ingredient to this technique is an
invisible rope hanging from your ceiling. This rope will be used to exert
dynamic pressure at a single point on your astral body to force its
separation from the physical body. Reach out with your imaginary hands
and pull yourself, hand over hand, up the strong, invisible imaginary rope
hanging above you. You will feel a slight dizzy sensation inside you as
you do this.

This feeling of vertigo will intensify the more you pull on the rope. Keep
climbing, hand over hand, ever upwards, and you will feel the vibrations
start. Your whole body will seem to be vibratiing and you will feel
paralyzed. Concentrate single minded, on climbing your rope. DONT
STOP.

Next you will feel yourself coming free from your body. You will next exit
your body in the direction of your imaginary rope and will be hovering
above your body. You're free at last!

MONROE TECHNIQUE

You have to first relax your body. This is a very important step. Then try to
go to sleep, but dont fall asleep. Maintain your awareness between sleep
and wakefulness. This is known as the hypnagogic state. Then deepen
this hypnagogic state and start to clear your mind of unwanted thoughts.

Simply look through your closed eyelids at the blackness in front of you.
Then you must enter an even deeper state of relaxation. The next step is
to induce vibrations throughout your body and intensify them. These
vibrations have to be controlled and intensified further.

This is the moment when the Astral body will seperate from the physical
body. You then simply have to "roll-over" and you will find yourself out of
your body.

TYPES OF PROJECTION:

MENTAL PROJECTION - Where the practitioner projects just his

Consciousness to some other place, beyond the physical body. It's similar
to a day dream only much stronger. You see a mental picture, like
watching a movie, but there are no senses per se, taste, feel, hearing,
smell etc.

ASTRAL PROJECTION - This is where the Consciousness & the Astral

body separate together from the physical body. The practitioner has use
of all fives senses plus those used by the Astral body. You may have a
sense of flying or floating. Vivid dreams are often natural AP during sleep.
It's perfectly safe. Nothing can enter the physical body while on an Astral
projection as only you have the exact key. At any sign of danger the Astral
body is "reeled in" rather quickly.

ETHERIC PROJECTION - This is where the Consciousness, the Astral

body& the etheric body separate together from the physical body. The
ectoplasm of the Etheric body can been seen other. The physical body is
reduced to a state of near catalepsy during the projection and must be
protected from sudden shock or disturbance as there is a rare occurrence
of physical death.

BILOCATION - This is where the Consciousness, the Astral body, the

Etheric body & the Physical body are in TWO different places at the same
time. This is only be used by advanced Magi and then rarely. It involves
time & place distortion with a host of other things. Mental projection is by
far the easiest. Just focus the consciousness anywhere the will directs.
Astral Projection requires a little more. There as many techniques &
systems as there are people.

Here are some guidelines & methods:

The first method:

Find a quiet place. Sit in a straight backed chair, up against a wall or on

the floor with spine erect. Relax, get comfortable. Inhale & exhale slowly a
couple of times. Do not fall asleep! Use 2/4 breath to start, that is; empty
your lungs, easily, then inhale to a mental count of four , hold mental
count of two, expel in a four count, pause for a two count, then inhale to a
four count etc, etc.
Picture an image in the mind's eye of a yourself in a ball of light about 3-5
feet away from you. Continue, slowly, rhythmically while focusing your
attention on the image in the mind's eye see it clearly then shift your
consciousness or point of awareness-awareness of self, selfhood; the
observing I etc. to the ball of light. Including the senses first touch, move
your Astral feet & arms, then hearing, then smell, then taste & last of all
when you have your other senses plugged in open your eyes and look
around. Each sense further focuses you point of awareness in the
Astralbody.

Astral sight doesn't depend on the physical eyes. The reason it is listed
last on the list is practical. Sometimes for novices the act of opening the
eyes in the Astral body triggers a reflex of opening the eyes in the
physical body, without the other senses to anchor it the consciousness
shifts back to the physical body and you lose the AP. Don't worry about
your Astral sight at the very start work first on being sure of shifting the
consciousness. That is the first step to success. The rest of the senses
MUST follow. If you have to break it down even further work on hearing,
smell, touch or Small Astral body movements one at a time first. Then
work on sight.

The second method:Start a mental projection and will your Astral body
along.

The third method: Imagine that your Astral body is separating from your
physical body out the head chakra. You will sense a rapid vibration with a
rising or floating sensation let it happen don't block it. When complete
check your five senses in the described order. Using the Astral body
requires only that you mentally shift gears into it, no matter what method
you use.

Note: Astral projection takes patience, practice & persistence. Several

things govern how quickly you can gain mastery; noises & distractions,
how relaxed you are, breathing technique, how well focused you are,
achieving the mental imagery necessary, transfer of consciousness, etc.

Animism

The term animism is derived from the Latin word anima meaning breath
or soul. The belief of animism is probably one of man's oldest beliefs, with
its origin most likely dating to the Paleolithic age. From its earliest
beginnings it was a belief that a soul or spirit existed in every object, even
if it was inanimate. In a future state this soul or spirit would exist as part of
an immaterial soul. The spirit, therefore, was thought to be universal.
There has been sharp divisions of thought as to the original concept of
animism held by primitive peoples.

An British anthropologist Sir Edward Burnett Tylor in his ''Primitive

Culture'' (1871) defined animism ''as a general belief in spiritual beings
and considered it 'a minimum definition of religion.''' He stated all religions
from the simplest to the most complexed shared some sort of animistic
belief. According to him primitive peoples, defined as those without a
written tradition, believed the spirits or souls caused life in human beings.
They pictured these souls as vapors or shadows going from one body to
another. The souls not only passed between human beings but into,
plants, animals and inanimate objects as well. Tylor reasoned primitive
man arrived at his animistic belief to help him explain the causes of sleep,
dreams, and death. There naturally aroused a need to distinguish
between an individual who was awake and one who was asleep, or an
individual who lived and one who did not. Also there was a need to give a
reason for the pictures some saw when they slept. The spirits were the
early man's explanations.

Tylor was criticized by another British anthropologist Robert Ranulph

Marett (1866-1943) who was convinced that primitive man had not
developed the intellectual to form even such simplistic explanations as
Tylor proposed. Marett suggested early religion was more emotional and
intuitional in origin. He theorized that early man recognized some
inanimate objects because they had some particular characteristic or
behaved in some unusual way which mysteriously made them seem
alive. He believed early man treated all animate objects as having a life
and will of their own, but they never distinguished the soul as separate
from the body, and could enter or leave the body.

Marett conceded early man possessed the belief of animism, but it

developed from the idea that some objects seemed to be alive like man. It
is insignificant how men and women gained the belief that a spirit or soul
resides in all objects it is historically evident that they did. Trees and
plants were worshiped as totems or because of their usefulness and
beauty. In many cultures certain trees and plants have been feared. In
some ancient cultures ''trees were generally regarded as maternal deities
or forest spirits, to be respected even when their lives were sacrificed for
human use (pagan woodcutters never felled a tree without first begging
its forgiveness). Female tree spirits live on in myth and folklore as dryads,
the Greek version of the tree-worshiping druid priestesses.'' Plants and
trees have been considered sacred by themselves because, as some
have thought, they are home to certain spirits. Both the soma plant of
India and the coca shrub of Peru are worshiped for the intoxicating
properties of the products made from them. Field crops, thought to harbor
spirits of infertility, has been honored by ancient tribesmen and peasants
throughout Europe. Traces of these cults can still be found.

The above describes nature worshipers among which many occultists are
numbered. They view life as being in everything, and everything, even
man, supporting life. Life is sacred -- all life. ''One of the foremost
characteristics of Neo-Paganism (or occultism) is the return to the ancient
idea that there is no distinction between the spiritual and material, sacred
and secular.'' Everything is still one as it was to primitive man. Animism
may also be the unconscious fabrication of a spirit manifestation by the
medium. It is not a fraud as the medium actually believes that he is
channeling a spirit. It usually happens when the medium is put under
pressure to attend a request or works in a spiritualistic circle where spirit
phenomena are expected to occur. The spirit of the medium then
fabricates a manifestation and it is interesting to notice that the medium's
body undergoes all the usual changes that happen in an actual spirit
communication, such as altered breathing, contortions, and such
procedures. (Information found at http://www.themystica.com/mystica/

Angelic Wishing Meditation

To begin, find a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Make yourself
comfortable, either by laying or sitting in this space. Begin to relax
yourself, pushing out unwanted thoughts. Shut your eyes and focus on
relaxing. As you are doing this, breathe in slowly. Inhale for four counts,
then exhale for four counts. Do this until you are completely comfortable
and relaxed.

Now, with your eyes closed, image a very bright white light. Image this
light surrounding you, so that it is all you can see. Focus on nothing but
the light. Then picture an angel flying above you in circles, as it does so,
look for every characteristic of the angel. Imagine its appearance with as
much detail as you can.

Then, picture the angel flying slowly closer and closer to you. As it gets
closer, focus on the energy it is putting off. Whenever you feel like ending
the meditation, imagine the angel flying away. As it gets further away, the
light begins to dim until you are back to where you started. Breathe in and
out for a few moments.

Banishing And Sealing Ritual For The Home

House Cleansing

Materials:

White Candle (any size, with holder)

Small bowls for water and salt
A large bowl of water
Incense (Choose one that brings to mind qualities you wish to have in
your home)

Banishing Ritual:
Meditate for a few moments on the task ahead; then make a brief
invocation to the Goddess and the God, asking for Their Aid and Power in
the Work you will do. Light the white candle in its holder, and charcoal in
the censer (or an incense stick may be used instead). Consecrate Water
and Salt in the usual way. Consecrate the water in the bowl in the same
manner, but do not add Salt; place this bowl in the center of the room.

Take the consecrated Water, elevate it to North, and say, ''In the name of
(Goddess) and (God) I banish with Water and Earth.'' Sprinkle the Water
lightly widdershins around the perimeter of the room. Bless the incense,
then elevate the censer (or incense stick) to North, and say, ''In the name
of (Goddess) and (God) I banish with Fire and Air.'' Cense the perimeter
of the room widdershins. Take the Candle and cast a Banishing Earth
Pentagram at North. (Draw the Pentagram with the censer or incense
stick, starting from the bottom left point up to the top point, and so forth.)
As you cast the Pentagram say, ''With this Sign I banish ye, foul shades
of the (Quarter)! Let this home be freed of your baneful influences!''

Then go widdershins around the perimeter of the room, casting a

Banishing Pentagram at each Quarter beginning at the West and ending
back at North, repeating the above at each Quarter. (Do not repeat it
again at North.) Now turn and face the center of the room, where the bowl
of water sits. With your hands, draw any negative energy or vibrations
remaining, and cast them into the water in the bowl by flicking or
snapping your fingers at it. Repeat this action until you are satisfied the
room is cleansed. Do not touch the water in the bowl, as it is being filled
with the negative forces you are eliminating.

Move the consecrated Water, the Salt, the Incense, the Candle, and the
bowl of water (being careful not to spill it) into each room in your home
and repeat this ritual. After banishing every room in the home (including
bathroom, closets, pantry, etc.) you have finished. Empty the large bowl
of water into running water (a sink or toilet will do). Wash the bowl
thoroughly with cold water, scrubbing with some of the consecrated Salt.

Sealing Ritual:
Take all the Elemental substances used in the Banishing Ritual (Salt,
consecrated Water, wax drippings from the Candle, and ashes from the
Incense) and mix them into a paste. Using your forefinger, use the
mixture to draw an Invoking Fire Pentagram at each opening leading
outside the home (the doors and the windows - and even the water pipes,
if you should feel the need) while concentrating on the Intention of
protecting your home from outside influences. (Draw the Pentagram from
the top point to the bottom right, and so forth. Form the Star so that it is
point up, or point out, as appropriate.) You may make two Stars at each
opening if you wish - one on the sill or threshold, and the other on the
door or window itself. Remember that Intent is the key to success in this,
as in all magickal operations; going through the motions without Will
brings no results.

Energy Healing

Materials:

Loose, cotton clothing (optional)

A bowl of water
A quiet place

Procedure:
Begin by washing your hands in the bowl of water, visualizing yourself
"washing away" the negative energies. As you are doing this, close your
eyes and relax. Begin to meditate, feeling your mind become at ease and
quiet of thought. Once you feel comfortable, you may proceed.

Remove any thing on you/ the other person such as contacts, glass,
jewelry, belts, shoes, etc. You want to be able to move freely and these
things are hindrances. Once this is done, move to an area that is
comfortable and either lay or sit in a position of your choice. Relax your
arms at your side, breathing deep and centering yourself once again. As
you become comfortable, make yourself aware of the energies around
you, or the other person. Be able to sense them, notice them, and tell the
difference between them. Focus on this step for roughly 10-20 minutes
until you feel you have a good grasp on them.

Focus on you, or the other person, and try to bring the energies together.
If the other person feels threatened, uncomfortable, etc- stop what you
are doing and take things slow. Feel their energy, visualizing it as you do
so- from here you can do the work that needs to be done.

When you are finished, close in the same way that you began. Focus for
roughly 10-20 minutes on centering yourself, relaxing and meditating.

Gatekeeper Meditation

Learn how to meet a constant companion through your life that never
changes.

Your gatekeeper, also known as life guide or doorkeeper, is the guide that
is with you from birth until your trasition to spirit. The gatekeeper is your
overall protector, they watch over your other guides and the spirits who
wise to communicate with you, they are always there to lend guidance
and help in any way they can. While some guides change periodically
through your life, the gatekeeper is a constant companion. I got this
meditation from bucklands book of spirit communications, this is my
revised version.

Get into a comfortable meditative position, begin breathing through your

nose and out your mouth, clear your mind, once you feel ready, do the
meditation below: You are walking along a country lane, the sun is shining
down and you feel warm and happy. There's an open field on your left
and a large woods on your right. You can hear birds singing in the trees
and a gentle breeze wafts against your face. You see ahead of you a
small path that leads to the right, into the woods, take that path, it leads at
a slight downward slope, winding in amongst the trees. You can see the
sun up above, shining down through the branches and creating a
wonderfully warm and comforting enviroment.

Small animals such as squirrels, rabbits, and chipmunks peek out at you
as you go on your way. The angle of a descent gradually steepens, and
you come to a cliff edge. You are not very high up, in fact you are no
higher than the tops of the trees below the cliff. You see that someone
has cut large steps into the face of the cliff and these lead downward to
the wooded ground below. You go down these steps. It's an easy descent
and you feel safe and secure as you go down. At the bottom you cross
the short expanse of grass to go, once more, in amongst the trees. As
you move on you find a river, a tree has fallen so you jump onto the tree
and cross the river.

Ahead of you the trees start to thin and you come out of the woods into a
field, to your left you see mountains, to your right more of the field
beyond. In front of you, the middle of the field at who's edge you stand,
there is a circle of standing stones. Each stone stands nine to ten feet tall,
there are a number of them forming the circle. Move forward into the ring,
you feel happy, warm, and comfortable, as if the stones are gaurdians
surrounding you and keeping out all of negativity. Sit down on the grass,
you are aware of the warmth and sound of the birds. For a moment
breathe in all the wonderful energies of this sacred place. As you sit there
quietly you are aware of another person joining you. They move around to
face you. It's a good prescence, a comforting one.

It's your personal guide, it's your personal guide, your gatekeeper who
has watched over your progress for many years. Don't yet open your
eyes, but stand up, reach out your hands and take those that are offered.
Feel them, feel the love and warmth that comes from them. Now open
your eyes and see your guide, is it a man or woman? Young or old? What
are they wearing? Notice everything about them. Ask by what name you
should call them, and greet them appropriatly. Ask if they have a special
message for you. When you are finished, thank your guide, bid them
goodbye, and say that you will meet them again very soon. Then walk out
of the circle back towards the woods, then follow the path you came from,
and find yourself back in your meditative position.

NOTE: This circle of stones is your sacred space, you can come back
here at anytime and speak with whoever you want and be perfectly safe
and secure, no one else can come in here without your permission.

Grounding and Centering

Find a quiet place and sit upright with your back straight and feet flat on
the floor. Light your scented candle or incense. Take three slow deep
breaths and release them. Relax and let go of any stress. Focus on the
bottom of your feet and imagine sending imaginary roots into the Earth.
Let these roots go deep and branch out taking in a deep breath as you do
this.

As you exhale, send all your negative energy and stress down through
these roots and into the Earth. When you inhale your next deep breath
draw up into your body all the energy you need. See this energy as a
white light or a green healing light. Let this light swirl through your body in
a clockwise motion. Continue to inhale the positive and exhale the
negative until you feel calm.

Now concentrate on the top of your head and imagine an opening on your
crown. Concentrate on a pure white light coming out of your head and
going into the sky. When you are ready, open this light so it becomes the
shape of a funnel. Through this funnel collect all the love and energy from
the universe that you can and let it fill your body. When you feel full pull
the funnel back down and surround your body with pure white light.
Refocus on your feet and let the energy from the Earth and the energy
from the Universe become one. Let them flow through your body in a
clockwise motion.

In your now quiet state open your mind and thoughts to whatever the
universe needs to show you, tell you or give to you. When you are
finished take three slow deep breaths. You should now feel relaxed and
renewed. http://www.ehow.com/how_2108726_ground-center-yourself-

Guardian Angel

Feeling safe can cover a lot of distance. It can range from feeling secure
in your world, secure in your personal safety, if you live in a place that is
full of violence and strife, to feeling secure that you can find your next
meal, to a vague feeling of satisfaction with your circumstances. For most
people, a feeling of safety lies somewhere in the middle.

As you begin to explore your own spirituality, the only real way you can
feel safe is to adopt a belief that you are here for a reason, that you
existed before you were born into this reality and that you will continue to
exist after your body has died. A feeling of safety comes from a belief that
you are loved unconditionally, by beings who are not caught up in your
everyday reality in physicality.

To know that you have a Guardian Angel who is keeping watch over you
can help you feel safe. This does not mean that when your soul has
decided that it is time for you to experience an injury, disease or even
death, that your Guardian Angel can protect you from these. But your
Angel is someone who is with you at all times, is someone who walks
beside you in your good times and your bad times, who can be invited to
share with you, the pleasures and sorrows of your everyday life.

Your Guardian Angel loves you without question. Your Guardian Angel
encourages you, gives you support.

There are other Angels who will be with you if you ask for them. You can
ask an Angel to oversee your home. You can ask Angels to oversee your
relationships. By believing that angels can be a part of your everyday life,
that there is something higher that accompanies you at all times, can help
you feel an enormous sense of safety, of security.

To know that you are loved, no matter what you say, know matter what
you think, no matter what you feel, is a wonderful gift you can give to
yourself. To imagine that you are not alone, to begin to believe it is true
that you are not alone, can help you feel a sense of safety, comfort and
security. It can also be the first step in learning that it is all right for you to
love yourself with the same all encompassing love, no matter what you
say, no matter what you think, no matter what you feel.

Love is what you are made of. Love is what has created the entire
universe. And any steps you take to tap into that feeling of love, for
yourself or for those around you, is a tapping into your true nature.

Here is a short exercise you can use as often as you want to tap into the
feeling of security and safety that you get when you get closer to your true
nature. Use this during times of forgetfulness, when you are unsure of
yourself, when you feel a little bewildered or lost.
How can you tell if your Angel is Answering your Question

How can you tell if your Angel is answering your question?

One of the ways to identify your Angel's voice is by the way you feel when
you hear it. Feelings of love, of greater self-importance, of inner peace, of
being deeply cared for and recognized, are signs of angelic connection.

You may also have a physical reaction; chills, goose bumps, tingling at
the back of the neck, unusually heightened clarity of vision, tears, which
flow when the emotional heart suddenly opens, and a sweet or fragrant
aroma that cannot be established. All these are indications of angelic
vibrations.

Many of us are using computers these days, in homes as well as offices.

You can use your computer to dialog with your Angel. Often,
transmissions come through in a gush of words. This method eliminates
any difficulty that you may experience when you are writing longhand.

If you use a computer to dialog with your Angel, make the surroundings
suitably respectful. Clear your desk of all the normal clutter and
paraphernalia, place a lighted candle, a crystal, or a fresh flower on it,
and boot up. Use a new disk and keep it just for your Angel's messages.

Prior to conversing through your computer, do the following:

1. Sit quietly for a few moments, close your eyes, and feel the presence
of your Angel. Breathe in all its love. Greet your Angel from your heart,
and receive its greeting in return.

2. Let a question form into words in your mind. Place it in your heart.
When you can feel the words in your heart, open your eyes, and type
your question.

3. As in any conversation, you will have things to say in response to what

your Angel just said. Beam these words into your heart as you type them.

4. Continue until you have come to the end of your conversation with your
Angel. Then thank your Angel.

How to Evoke

First off, what is the difference between evoking and invoking?

Most people say ''Invoking'' without knowing what it means.

Invoking is where you invoke a deity(god or goddess), and the entity

steps into your body. You become them, and they become you, and you
absorb the energies they leave you. Much like when casting a circle and
calling the quarters. As you call the quarters, you become each element.
There is nothing similar to invoking a goddess or god, as it gives you an
afterfeeling that you can't describe.

Evoking on the other hand, is much different. This is more commonly

done, though it is seldom said. Evoking is the act of inviting a deity or
element to come to your circle, Not be within you. Through evoking you
feel the elements more than you would feel the entity of the god or
goddess. By inviting them, keep in mind, invitations can be turned down.
Affinites for a certain element make themselves known, by inviting them,
or evoking them.

Evoking is the more common of the two, and is the most easiet for
beginners to casting or magicks in general.

Inviting the elements:

North:

''North, element of Earth. You bring strength and wisdom into our lives.
You nuture and protect. I call thee spirit of North. Please join me and lend
me the power over Earth. Blessed be.''
North dismissal:

''North, element of Earth you have brought me your wisdom, expressed

your strength. Be with me always. Thank you spirit of the North, for joining
me and lending my the energies of Earth. Farewell and Blessed be.''

East:

''East, element of Air. You bring me inspiriation, upon intellect. You blow

through the course of our lives, and give us life itself. I call thee spirit of
East. Please join me and lend me the power of Air. Blessed be.''

East Dismissal:

''East, element of AIr, whom brings us motivation and inspiration. MAy you
be with me always. Thank you spirit of the East, for joining me and
lending me the energies of Air. Farewell and blessed be.''

South:

"South, element of Fire. You Bring passion and energy to our bodies and
minds. You generate the light that lets us see, the warth, that lets us live. I
call thee spirit of the South. Please join me and lend me the power of fire.
Blessed be.''

SOuth dismissal:

''South, element of fire, who delivers passion and creates the heat that
allows us survival. Thank you spirit of the South for joing me and lending
me the nergies of Fire. Farewell and blessed be.''

West:

"West, element of water. You feed our emotions and intuition. You wash
and quench our bodies and thirst. I call thee spirt of West. Please join me
and lend me the power of water.Blessed be.''

West dismissal:
''West, element of water, who produces emotion and intuition. You
cleanse and purify our bodies with every drink. Thank you for joining me
and lending the energies of water.Farewell and blessed be.''

*Note: It is optional to call forth Akasha, the fifth element, commonly

known as spirit.

Spirit:

''You render the elements called forth, and you represent the goddess/god
the dwells inside me. You are the source of the good and pure. The dark
and light that make up my mind, soul and body.I call thee spirit to join me.
Blessed be''

Spirit dismissal:

''Spirit, element of peace, You are released for the circle, but shall you
forever be with me and dwell in the essence of myself. Blessed be.''

How to Find Your Guardian Angel

The best way to know more about your guardian angel is to begin a
series of activities that will reveal to you the spiritual qualities that your
angel possesses. It is not important to get the name of the angel, or to
see the angel, but it is VERY IMPORTANT to learn how to work
cooperative with your angel. My suggestions are:

1. Start a notebook listing all the little incidents that occur when you feel
there has been some help given to you, and acknowledge them. The
angel loves this and will interact when you do this.

2. Spend time each day planning how you can deepen your faith in God,
and do that which you plan.

3. Make a list of all the painful incidents in your life, or people who have
caused you pain, or who you caused pain towards, and turn them over to
your angel in a prayer of forgiveness for all concerned. This brings the
angel very close.

4. Make a decision about how you can become of greater service to God
by helping others, and ask your angel each morning to lead you into
those activities.

5. Rise each morning and express gratitude to the angel for all the
unseen help given both in sleep and awaken times, and especially for the
multitude of actions taken by the angel to prevent harm and protect you
that you are unaware of but which happens all the time.

When you begin doing these things, your angel will become more active
in your life and will lead you to an understanding of the ''personality'' of
that angel who accompanies you throughout eternity.

How to Make Incense

I make a lot of loose incense to use in my spell work. I prefer to make my

own as I find it is more powerful than store bought varieties. Anything you
make yourself will give you better results.

INGREDIENTS:

A mortar and pestle

The herbs you want to use for the incense. (according to needs)
Gum resin to use as a base (benzoine, arabic gum, dragons blood)
Essential oils (according to needs)
Jar with a tight fitting lid
Plastic bag

PROCEDURE:
1. Take the mortar and pestle and place the resin gum into it.
2. Grind the resin base up until it looks like granulated sugar.

3. Add the herbs, spices and woods (whatever you are using). Quantaties
will depend on your own personal preferences. Grind these until very fine
and blended together.

4. If you are using essential oils put them in now A DROP AT A TIME.
Remember, blending incense is a very important step. Make sure
everything is blended together very well.

5. You can now dedicate your incense for a specific ritual, spell or
purpose.

6. Place the mixture in a strong polythene bag so the incense keeps in

pungency.

7. Place the bag in a jar with a tight fitting lid and leave to develop for 24
hours.

Remember to label your jar clearly so you know what the jar contains.
You can also add its purpose if it was given one.

I generally make small amounts at one time so that it does not loose its
potency.

Notes:

I have been making my own for at least 15 years, probably longer. I like
making my own better than buying it because I think it works better. I put
my own power into the mix and the vibration is amazing.

I buy the larger size charcoal discs so that I have a longer burning time.

Non-combustible incense is great to use, I also have a recepie for the

combustible type. (Taken from a Scott Cunningham book that I highly
recommend since it has things on tinctures and blending oils as well as
Incense) It is a little more difficult to make the combustible types, and is
not always practicle, but if you're up to a challenge and like the
convenience of something that self ignites, here's a recipie for incense
papers:

Take a piece of white blotter paper and cut into 6 inch strips about an inch
wide. Add 1 1/2 teaspoon potassium nitrate to 1/2 cup very warm water.
Stir till the saltpeter is completely dissolved. Soak paper strips in mixture
until completely saturated. Hang to dry. Empower the tincture with your
goal than pour a few drops onto the paper. Smear over paper and repeat
until one side is completely coated. Hand to dry and store in a lablled
airtight container. To use: Light one tip with a match and after it's
completely envelloped in flames, blow out. Place in a heat proof
container.

Since I mentioned tinctures in this post, I will also explain about those.
One tincture we use very often is Vanilla. Vanilla extract is basically a
tincture, which is herbs soaked in alcohol until all their virtues and scent is
imparted to the liquid. You need to use at least 140 proof ethyl alcohol to
make a proper tincture. Check drugstores and liquor stores. Begin with a
large supply of dry plant material. Grind the herbs with a mortor and
pestal until it is a fine powder. Now empower the herbs to your purpose.
Pour the herbs into a small bootle with a tight fitting lid. Using a small
funnel, pour just enough alcohol to cover the herb. Cap tightly and shake
vigorously. Do this every day for a week or two. Everytime you shake the
mixture visualize the goal, empower the herbs again to your purpose.
Then, use a coffee filter and strain out the herb out of the alcohol. Keep
the alcohol. The scent may be strong enough at this point, if not repeat
the process with new herbs. The mixture should become heavily scented
and coloured. If it doesn't after these two weeks you may be using an
herb that is not readily soluable in alcohol, so add a little water to the mix
and try again.

To determine if it is properly scented add a drop to your wrist and let it dry,
then sniff. Many tinctures won't smell the proper way until they dry.

When the tincture is ready, filter once more, add a few drops of castor oil
or glycerine to stabalize fragrance, label and store in a container out of
direct sunlight. This product is not drinkable.
Incenses and their use:

*Note: I am only putting the most common incenses.

Musk - Burn this for courage and vitality, and for love. ( I use it for
confession as well.)

Cinnamon: to attract love and money

Asafetida: to expel negative entities, and used for exorcisms

Bay: for health, abundance, and prosperity

Patchouli: good luck, relaxer, all purpose

Storax: To attract powerful spirits, used in meditation

Sage: Used for purifaction, protection, and conjuring

Mryyh: Used for purifaction, clearing auras, spirituality, and healing.

Pine: Burn this to replel negative entities or forces. Also used for strength.

Temple and Copal: Are typically used in a ceremonial worship, or

dedications. Commonly used at sabbats.

Lavendar: Used for cleasing, releases negative emotions, strengthens

auras and is linked to several goddess's.

Incenses come in many different forms and varieies. Cones, powers,

sticks, oils, etc.

I recently just learned, from my journey about several different ways and
herbs that can be contributed to make your own herbal incense.

My Girlfriend's Native American heritage, taught me how to Tie bunches

of dried herbs into a cloth sachet, flammable cloth, made out of cedars,
and bark. They light the herbs, and use the incense, much as we would
smudge something. There are many variations of the herbs blended
together. They used, sage, lavendar, cinnamon, Bay, cedar, copal, and a
few others. They dry the herbs, then bless them in a simple chant. Just
thought i would share for those interested:)

I'd like to add that Sandelwood is good for activation the 3rd eye. Another
use for Sandelwood is a little more naughty- it's known to increase libido.
(woohoo!)

My personal favorite scent is Egyptian musk...

How to Make a Lucky Charm

What you will need:

Item to enchant which is usually something close to you or with

sentimental value*
visualization and concentration
sage
sweet grass
sea salt

*The item to enchant has to be something you will either use daily, use
during certain situations, or keep with you at certain times if not all the
time. The visualization and concentration will be needed for enchanting
and programming. The purpose will be what you want the lucky charm to
do. For an example we'll say I have a medium sized polished rock that I
want to receive extra strength and energy from whenever I start getting
tired.

First: Prepare. Some people may want to add a rune or symbol for extra
meaning, so for this example you would also need a permanent marker
and you would have to know which runes to place. Before doing anything
else, after everything you will use is set up in front of you, smudge. Burn
some sage over and around the object you intend to enchant and the
tools you intend to use for it. Then burn some sweet grass the same way.
If you feel the need to, meditate before proceeding.

Second: Visualize and Concentrate. Visualize your energy flowing into the
stone, visualize the Sowilo rune burning into one side of the stone and
Uruz burning into the other, concentrate only on this and let nothing else
matter. If you chose to meditate before doing this, it is possible to do this
in a state of meditation without leaving it from when you first started. If
you did not choose to meditate then it is still possible to enter a state of
meditation while doing this and doing so may be helpful.

(Note: Sowilo would be the rune for energy and Uruz would be the rune
for strength)

Third: Mark your Purpose. Use a marker or any other object you wish to
use to draw the runes, Sowilo and Uruz, on either side of the stone. Again
visualize the intent of these runes glowing into the stone, the energy
required for this running from you into the runes. You may even verbally
tell the stone what it is you want it to do.

And now you are done. Sea salt may be required, I'd say it's actually
optional, for placing your new charm in after you are done so that it will be
further purified and blessed. Keep this stone with you for strength and
energy throughout the day and rub it if ever you feel the need for an extra
burst.

This method works for just about anything. Petrified wood, bleached
bones, broken pieces of plastic, anything you feel like enchanting may be
done in this way. Just use the rune that coincides with your purpose. If
you just want a charm for good luck in general, I would suggest the Perth
rune.

Introduction to Chi

Healing using chi energy (life force energy that permeates all life beings,
and is present throughout the Universe) has been one of the most basic
forms in energy healing for a good long while. Before you actually learn to
heal, you should understand the basics of energy manipulation; things
such as gathering energy, running it, and projecting it. ("running energy"
is a term for 'guiding' it through the body)

First, you should have some common knowledge about what it is your are
working with. The chi energy flow nourishes the human spirit and gives us
the ability to concentrate; it is the basis of creativity, and the healing of our
body. Chi is the force of nature that moves in invisible currents and
healing pathways through all matter. Chi connects everything.

It is common belief among healers, that before you start to heal others,
you must first heal yourself. You do this by healing your body, mind and
spirit, daily most of the time. Keeping an inventory on your health, how
your body reacts and any problems, illnesses or other factors that affect
you negatively. The same for taking inventory on your mental health. As
for your spiritual health. You must rid yourself of all blockages.

The way that chi flows through the body, within meridians, presides over
the wellness or disease imbalances. When a blockage occurs, it can
cause numbness, pressure, spasm, and many kinds of aches and pains.
A blockage also effects stress, the way you eat, and how it is digested.
Sleep patterns and disorders also result in how chi energy if flowing. Chi
blockages result mostly from stress, trauma and injuries. In extreme
inbalances, mental, emotional or physical problems may manifest. So
when the blockage happens, the inhibited energy flow can result in all
types of suffering. But, the flow of the chi energy can also contribute to
happiness.

The flow of the chi energy within your body reflects your state of mind,
how you are feeling, how you think and breathe. Conversely, the negative
thoughts can block the flow of chi energy, just as the positive can build
chi.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), chi energy is based upon the

interplay of two polar opposites, creating a vibratory movement and flow
of chi energy. These polar forces, refered to as yin and yang, follow
natural laws fundamental for all martial art and healing art principles.
The foundation of the Asian Martial Arts and the Healing Arts focuses on
how chi energy flows. Both martial artists and healers channel and build
chi for strengthening and enhancing their practices. Martial artists use chi
for self-defense, physical power, and other ways of moving the chi energy
externally. The healing arts channel chi energy for healing purposes
internally. Both practices benefit from the cultivation of chi - through
exercise, diet, and creative, positive visualizations.

Building chi, developing its healing potential, and strengthening the flow
of the chi energy within you has been high priority in the Chinese culture
since ancient times. Chi Gong (qikung) uses special internal healing
exercises and meditations for building chi, cultivating the life force and
channeling it throughout the body. By strengthening the chi within your
body - through chi gong or martial arts breathing exercises, you can use
the hightened chi for healing yourself and others. To start out to learn the
healing arts, you will first need to learn how to gather the energy to
preform the healing. Whether it be an internal source or an external. Chi
healing uses the chi within your own body, and what you have gathered
from your environment, to heal yourself or another.

Before moving on, it should be noted about the breath. Proper breathing
must be used at all times, not just in healing work or meditations, but
throughout daily life. Proper breathing is a very simple approach to
healing, the breath is related to everything we do. Most people in modern
society do not breath well or deeply.
Proper breathing as the potential to facilitate relaxation, to remove tension
from the body, to alleviate the affects of stress and pain, to diminish the
effects of disease and trauma, to allow the mind to calm itself, to calm the
mind and body, relieve stress-related disorders, improve autonomic
functions, remove toxins from your body, extend life, enhance perception,
and to steady your mind and strengthen your will. With all breath work,
you focus on breathing fully and completely, utilizing a wide variety of
breathing methods and techniques and how to use the breath to let go of
any and all un-necessary tension. As you breath in you gather up your
aches, pains and troubles and as you breath out you let your worries float
away. Proper breathing puts you in tune with your mind and body while
alleviating long held tension and pain.
Relaxation, of the mind and body, is also a key point in healing, as well as
most other things. This is often done through a type of meditation, to let
your body move naturally, without stress and tension, and to calm your
mind to a level of 'silence'. Breathwork is a key in learning to relax. (told
you it's important ;))

A simple breathing meditation, to help you calm your mind and body is as
follows;
Find a comfortable place to sit, where you will not be disturbed, and relax
your body. Keep your spinal column straight, but not stiff, keep it relaxed,
but aligned. Close your eyes, and begin to breath in a normal rhythmic
pattern (1:2, 2:4, 2:6, etc), and let it flow naturally, do not try and force
yourself to breath. Once you can comfortably breath, bring your attention
to your breath, as it enters your nose, and flows down to the bottom of
your lungs, filling them whole-ly. Leave no space between the inhale and
the exhale. Exhale through the mouth, letting your attention follow the
breath up and out, and then back in again through the nose. You should
do what is called "belly breathing", fairly simple and normal. You know
you are doing it right if your belly is moving outwards while you inhale. Do
not move your chest and cause your diaphragm to expand a great deal.
Do this for a while, and allow your thoughts to become passive and your
body to become fluid-like.
Some people like to use a visualization for this, to where the air (energy)
is flowing around them, and as they breath in, it flows in their body and
down to their centre (solar plexus, tian dian, hara, etc) and fills it with the
energy, and is then released again with the breath back up and out the
mouth.
This is also a way to get the energy within your body stimulated and
flowing at a ready pace. A more involved method comes from qikung (chi
gong) and can be done by practically anyone.

But before that, a guided breathing technique, called The Complete

Breath;
This is the basic breathing technique of pranayama, the yogic science of
breathing. It is an excellent training tool as it encourages you to breathe
fully, bring oxygen deep into the cells and pulling out toxins. It will also
send a surge of energy through every cell of your body.
Lie down on the floor and make yourself comfortable. Bring your feet
close in to your buttocks, with the soles of the feet together, and allow the
knees to fall apart, hands resting gently on your abdomen. [Note: if this
feels comfortable you can put cushions under your knees.] This posture
stretches the lower abdomen, which enhances the breathing process.
Breathe in with a slow, smooth inhalation through your nostrils, feeling
your abdomen expand and contract. Your fingers will part as your
abdomen expands.
Exhale slowly and steadily through your nostrils. Notice that your
abdomen flattens and your fingers are touching.
Pause for a second or two and then repeat this inhalation and exhalation,
becoming conscious of the movement of the breath down through your
chest and abdomen. Breathe naturally at your own pace in this way for
five minutes or as long as you feel comfortable.
If you feel comfortable with this you can extend the breath so that it
comes up from the abdomen into the best as you inhale. This provides a
longer, deeper breath.
Finally, bring your knees together and gently stretch out the legs. Allow
yourself to relax comfortably on the ground for a few minutes [you may
feel more comfortable with a cushion under your lower back or your
neck] .

Learning to gather the energy should be your next step. I will present a
few ways to do this. The first being your most basic.
Begin by sitting down, cross-legged if you wish. Put your awareness on
your breathing, keep it there until both your mind and body are relaxed.
Now, bring your focus to your solar plexus, your body's centre. [for this
visualization, use whatever you see fit as for colour] See you solar plexus,
as a bright glowing centre, see it getting brighter and brighter, while
expanding a bit. See the energy from around you flow into your body,
flowing from the farthest reaches, down to your body, pressing against
your skin, flowing inwards from every pore of your body, through your
breath, and down into every cell in your body, passing down into the
Centre, fueling it, making it stronger and brighter. Continue to hold on to
the visualization for as long as you can.
The point of this exercise is to help with the visualization technique, which
you will need, and to help you to feel energy inside and outside of your
body.
This next exercise might be slightly more complicated, it is derived from
qikung practices.
To begin with, focus your mind on the area around you (your aura),
seeing it in a state of constant activity. Meaning, it is revolving rapidly,
absorbing spiritual energy from the space around it, transforming it in
such a way that it becomes available for your use. Imagine then, that the
energy flows, in a stream-like state, down the left side of the head, down
the left side of the trunk (body) and the left leg. While the current is
flowing downwards your breath should be exhaled slowly in a convenient
rhythm. With the slow inhalation of the breath, imagine that the energy
passes from the sole of the left foot to the right foot, and gradually
ascends the right side of your body. In this way, it returns to the source
from which is came, the crown centre where it entered, and a closed
circuit has been created (an orbit). Naturally this circulation is visualized
as flowing within the body rather than traveling around the physical
structure. It is, to say, an interior psychic circulation rather than a purely
physical one.
Let this circulation, once firmly established by the mind, flow evenly to the
rhythm of your breath for a bit so that the circuit has been traversed about
six times, or even more if you wish. Then repeat it in a slightly different
direction. Visualize the energy flow from the crown (slightly above your
head) down the front of the face and body. After having turned backwards
under the soles of the feet, it ascends at the back in a fairly wide belt of
vibrating energy. This should be accompanied by the inhalation and
exhalation of the breath, and should be done for at least six circuits.
The final method of circulation for this exercise resembles the actions of a
fountain.
Send your awareness downwards, into the Earth centre (at the base of
your feet), seeing it as the culmination of all of the others ( spirit centre;
slightly above the head, air centre; the throat, fire centre; directly below
your sternum, water centre; at the pubic area, and the earth centre; at the
base of the feet), the representation of power, the storehouse and
terminal of the incoming energy. Then imagine that this energy ascends,
or is drawn or sucked upwards by the magnetic attraction of the Spirit
centre above the crown of the head. The energy ascends the shaft (the
central line connecting the points; the hara line; chakra pathways, etc)
and then falls down within the aura. When it has descended to the feet
again it is gathered together and pulled into the Earth centre and then
pushed upwards again. As before, this circulation should accompany a
definite rhythm of inhalation and exhalation. By these means, the healing
force is distributed to every part of the body.

Letter Writing To The Oversoul And Guardian Angel

A problem cannot be solved at the level it was created. You may use this
Ritual if you have a situation which needs healing, a condition you cannot
solve, or a person with whom you have no luck communicating third
dimensionally. You are allowed to write a letter to the Oversoul and
Guardian Angel of _______________. The following is now the text of the
letter.

I ask for Divine intervention for my relationship with _________ (or

healing for). I ask for healing of body, mind, spirit and emotions in all
dimensions, and time frames. Recognizing that I do not fully understand
the karmic implications in this situation I ask the Oversoul and Angels to
intervene. I ask for healing from addiction, or anger, diseases, etc. I ask
that ______________ become aware for their true nature, their mission
and their Oversoul. Because it has been promised that to ask and we
shall receive. I recognize that by writing these letters for fourteen days in
a row and on the fourteenth day burning the letters, that I am acting in
accordance with spirit. I now release this person and their condition to
God for resolution. This ritual is the only way I am aware of for the
Oversoul and Guardian Angel to be given a special dispensation to over
ride the person's free will for six weeks to positively influence the person's
life.

You may do this for addicted individuals, but I would to the exorcism also,
as most addicted people are periodically possessed and not fighting their
addiction for only one person. This is one of the greatest gifts you can
offer another person. You do not have to have their permission to write
these letters. You can also write the letters for Earth or a country or
condition which is present on the Earth.

You write the letters for 14 days (if you miss a day, you keep writing until
you have fourteen letters). You then burn the letters on the 14th day and
release the person to God and ask for the highest good for all concerned.
Fire energy assists in transmuting the situation. You may write the letters
every eight weeks, leaving six weeks in between to allow the Oversoul to
intervene. Many miracles have been reported through the use of this
prayer technique. Above all, read your letter and ask yourself, ''Are you
doing this out of love for this person, or because of your need to control
them?'' If so, redo the wording of the letter and be honest about your
motives.

Past Life Regression Exercises

Past life regression exercises will help an individual view his past lives
and experiences on his own. If you are interested in knowing about your
past life without going to a specialist, this article will give you information
on past life regression experiences that you can try at home...

Past life has been a topic of debate and controversy since many years.
While it is an integral part of various ancient religions, the new world of
science and technology has doubts about its authenticity, as a persons
past life cannot be tested in the scientific manner. Nevertheless, there still
people who believe in past life and especially in the theory of past life
regression. Past life regression therapy is a way of viewing ones past life
and is a great therapy for healing as well as finding solutions to problems,
illnesses and fears that people encounter in their present lives. Though
usually most people visit specialists and experts for past life regression
therapy, not many know that it is possible to view our past lives on our
own. This can be done with the help of past life regression exercises
which will help you to proceed towards your past life experiences. Usually
past life regression hypnosis and meditation are used to help a person to
reach his subconscious mind where the thoughts and experiences of the
past lives are stored safely.

Meditation and hypnosis is the best way to go into the inner depths of
your consciousness where the memories of your past life lie. Hence, past
life regression begins with practicing meditation, which helps a person to
relax and go into a hypnotic trance state. However, one thing everyone
should know before moving into past life regression exercises, is that it is
not very easy to reach our past life memories. Rather, it may take several
sessions if we are doing this on our own. Therefore, be patient and get
ready to experience what your soul has already experienced in your past
lives. Read more on self hypnosis.

How To:
The first step of past life regression meditation and hypnosis is finding a
place and time where you will not be disturbed and will be able to relax
completely. If you are doing this at home, make sure that you are alone.

The position that you select for past life regression therapy is also very
important. You can either lie down on your bed or sit on it supported by
cushions. Whatever position you choose, the most important factor is that
it should be comfortable for you.

Before beginning past life meditation, say a prayer to your guides and
guardian angels to be with you and protect you during your journey
towards your past life. It will also be good if you think about a reason for
doing this past life regression session, for example, why am I afraid of
something or what is the purpose behind my existence, etc.

This past life regression meditation will go for 45 minutes and it will be
better to set an alarm clock which will help you to know when you have to
come back from your trance state.

Lie or sit in the most comfortable position and close your eyes. The first
thing you have to do is to relax your body completely. This has to be done
with a step by step process. You should begin with your legs and move up
towards your head.

Once you feel fully relaxed and a feeling of warmth spreads inside your
body, imagine yourself in a room that has stairs which go downwards. You
have to take yourself down these stairs and reach a room at the end of
the stairs.

The room that you will reach will have a couch on its left side and
adjacent to it on the right side will be a door that says ''My Past Lives''.
Once you have reached this stage, you can either go inside the room or
save that for another session.

Nevertheless, you have to first lie on the sofa to make yourself

comfortable again. Pray to your guardian angels to protect you at the time
you are viewing your past life. This will help you get rid of any fears that
you have and see your past lives like you are a third person watching a
movie. You also have to think about the purpose of going to your past life
again.

Once you feel that you are completely prepared to see your past life, go
towards the door and try to open it. If the door does not open, it is better
to go back and lie down on the coach as this can be a warning from your
guides and will be for your benefit.

On the other hand, if the door opens, go inside the room and you will find
a white screen which is covered with blinds. On both the sides of the
screen you will see two buttons. On the left side will be green button on
pressing which you will be able to see your past lives, while on the right
side will be a red button, on pressing which the blinds will go down and
you will be back to the room outside the door.

Press the green button and the blinds will go up and you will come face to
face to one of your past lives. Initially, you will see an image on the
screen, i.e. your image in your past life, but there are chances that it may
not be very clear. If this is the case, you should first concentrate at the
feet of the person who is there on the screen. Once you are sure what he/
she is wearing on the legs, you can move upwards as to what he is
wearing and lastly on how he/she looks. Once you see this, say action
and your past life will unravel before you.

During this session, you can move back and forth in your life to view
some specific experiences. If it is your first time, it will be better to restrict
the session for 25-30 minutes and remember that you have to press the
red button, if you think that the life has ended or if you hear the alarm
clock ringing.

Come out of the room and lie on the couch for sometime. Once you have
rested enough, get up and walk back through the stairs through which
you have come down and then slowly open your eyes.

Lie down for sometime to gather your thoughts, before getting up from
your relaxed position. Write down your past life regression experiences as
soon as possible, before analyzing what you have seen. You may find
answers to various questions that you have in your mind about your
present life. One thing you have to keep in mind is that you may not
achieve success when you first try past life regression exercises, but with
lot of practice, this combination of imagination, hypnosis and meditation
will surely help you to come in contact with your past lives.

Seidr craft or trance magic of the ancient Norsk.

Much speculation but little fact has been written of Seidr craft or trance
magic of the ancient Norsk. Trance Magic is a misleading term and
should be placed in its proper perspective. There are many who claim
that the shapeshifting ability of the ancients was no more or less than
visions that took place during unconscious or ''trance'' states. This attitude
should be discounted as a lack of understanding of the principles
involved.

Trance is only the first of the states required for learning to effect a
''sending''. The trance condition is necessary for novice volva or vitki in
order to learn effective use of Seidr magic but it isn't the whole of the
craft. Blocking out ''real world'' distractions is a paramount skill. Without it
little can be accomplished in the shadow realms. It is useful to clear the
mind and enhance the shaman's ability to focus and visualize the desired
conditions. Ideally, the practitioner should be able to achieve a trance
state by will alone. To attain the mental dispelling necessary for this feat
sometimes requires years of practice. However, with the judicious use of
certain techniques most novices can develop a basic trance state within
weeks of beginning their training. The techniques include repetitive
sound, visual focus devices and a variety of herbal substances. A few of
the less dangerous techniques are included here.

As with all disciplines Seidr magic has many levels of expertise. In the
most basic level the practitioner is able to project images into the minds of
susceptible individuals that are interpreted first as dreams and later as
real events. In more advanced students the projected image takes on a
physical reality and in the adept can become a true reality. The substance
of our world and the extradimensional worlds that surround it are more or
less mutable. That is, we can by focusing will, cause both apparent and
real changes in the fabric of our existence. Most practitioners begin with
little or no ability to shape or shapeshift. Their arena is limited to the
space inside their minds. Now, that is a wide space indeed, but nothing
when the true vastness of reality is considered. The true art of Seidr lies
in the ability to create shapes in your head and impress them on the
outside world.

Before attempting Seidr techniques you must be aware of a few simple

but important conditions. First, it isn't a game. It isn't Dungeons and
Dragons and it isn't comic books. Its an ancient tradition with very real
power. Second, its dangerous to the extreme for the unprepared. Even in
the lightest trance state you are open to outside influences. Without the
proper protection you can receive mental and emotional injury and in
deeper states the damage can be physical. Always work in a protected
area preferably a circle. Third, forget all the crap you've learned from the
New Agers. Don't open yourself without purpose. Don't expect every
being you meet to be benevolent and don't blindly go to the light. Fourth,
white isn't always good, black isn't always bad and red is always
dangerous though not of necessity hostile. Fifth, if you want to learn Seidr
to work woe on someone, its a lot simpler to slash their tires or pour coke
on their keyboard. This is work.

The Basics: (This text assumes some knowledge of magic tools and
principles. Otherwise you shouldn't try this.)

The novice should always work in a protected circle. It can be as simple

as a circle drawn in red chalk on your basement floor to as complex as
you want it to be but use it. Dedicate or consecrate it each time you use it
unless you happen to live in an established temple located on a major ley
line convergenceand then its still a good idea to referesh both design and
intent. Gather your tools and trace the circle either clockwise or counter-
clockwise as you desire while standing inside. Most of the left-hand right-
hand influence in magic is a recent Christian oriented invention. The
same goes for inverted or reversed runes. It really doesn't matter. The
Runes are complex enough to express any concept we are able to
comprehend without flipping them about. Consider that all of the runes
can be expressed using three lines. The circle should be large enough for
you to lie down with arms extended without overlapping the edge and to
accommodate any tools you have with you. Around the inside edge
inscribe no less than three, preferably nine, Yr runes (AKA Elhaz) pointing
outward from the center. If you're not familiar with runes, take the time to
learn and meditate on Fe, Thur, Ass, Yr, Sol and Ehwaz. These six runes
will get you through most situations but a working knowledge of all the
runes is to be desired. A chart with the most basic of attributes is available
here. While drawing the circle, chant your intent. Use words to the effect
that the circle you create is a haven against harm and a safe resting place
for your body while you're gone.

Once the circle is completed, don't cross it for any reason until you've
finished your ritual. This includes reaching outside to pickup a tool you
forgot or having someone hand you an item. If you have to break the
circle, stop everything and start over.

Recels, a form of incense, are an important tool of the Seidr worker. A

faring forth recel has a base of mugwort and/or wormwood with additional
ingredients added for specific effect. (see the dangerous herb page
before using these) For example, add pine or cedar if your destination is a
wilderness setting while sweeter fragrances would be used for working
passion or love spells. For more information on the properties of herbs
view the related pages available from the main menu. The recel is burned
after the circle is formed and while you add the finishing touches. Its
important to have a clear mental picture of exactly what you intend to
accomplish during any Seidr working and to use whatever symbols you
need to accomplish your task. In this respect a working knowledge of
Runecraft is very helpful. You can use that knowledge to inscribe your
circle with the necessary protection and direction you need. Its not
essential but highly recommended.

Your first efforts should always be toward the singular end of making
contact with your fylgja. The fylgja is similar to but not exactly the same
as an animal totem or spirit guide. It is more than either of these in that it
is as much a part of you as it is of the outside. Some practitioners think of
it as the animal shape of your soul. I consider it one of many shapes and
attributes of my spiritual lineage. Regardless of what shape it might
assume, never think of it as a servant. It is a much more intimate
relationship. Always treat it with respect and never place it in danger. The
form of each individual's fylgja will be unique but certain basic forms are
common. Wolf, fox, cat, hawk, boar, bear and horse are the most likely
forms you will encounter but others exist and virtually any animal form is
possible. The occasional wyrm or dragon and seemingly human forms do
manifest but these are unusual and should be considered most fortuitous.
With this in mind, novices should always include the Ehwaz rune in the
construction of their circle. This rune is specific for shapeshifting and
contacting your fylgja.

When the circle is drawn and your inscriptions complete lie down in the
center with your working tools close by. With eyes closed visualize a
forest path beginning at the edge of your circle. It is dark and waves of
mist billow and shift as you rise from you sleeping body. The scent of herb
smoke lingers and you can see a glowing red line where you circle holds
back the shadows. Fix in your mind your vitki name and persona. (Never
give your real name while faring. Your fylgja will know you and no one
else needs to.) Step away from your body and onto the path. As you walk
you will likely hear strange sounds from the shadows. Pay no attention to
the rustles and growls. Just keep your feet on the path. Sooner or later
you will meet another creature pacing the path toward you. This will most
likely be your fylgja. If it is, you will hear it speak your true name inside
your head. If you hear anything other than your true name, trace the Yr
rune in the air in front of you and push it toward the creature. Baneful
creatures will be forced off the path but that doesn't mean you can trust
those that are unaffected. Treat them as you would any stranger in
strange surroundings. To be certain that you have indeed found your
fylgja, return to your circle. A true fylgja will follow and enter the circle with
you. Others will be stopped by the circle's protection. From that time it will
dwell within you until you have need to send it faring.

From the trance state you can send lesser thought forms to carry
messages or to deliver spells. Those sensitive to such things will see
them as birds or bats if they fly and various small animals if they travel on
the ground. For more important or difficult tasks you will need to ride your
fylgja. Again from inside the prepared circle burn the recels and chant
your purpose. Feel the hide of your inner animal move like smoke to the
edge of the circle and take solid form. Then move quickly into the mist
shrouded shadows and make your way to your destination. Remember
that although some individuals can see your spirit shape, most will only
perceive you in the dream state. But, whether or not they consciously
remember the meeting it will have an effect on them.

In the beginning you should keep your forays close to your physical
location. At least until you learn to manage your new body. And, while it is
rare to become lost while faring, it can happen. Also try to avoid
movement that seems to be sharply downward into the earth. This is in
reality taking you into the lower realms and into the domain of some very
dangerous creatures. The Swart Alfr or Dark Elves are seldom friendly to
human visitors. Unless you have very good reason or something to trade
with them, stay out of their realm. You will also find that time runs
differently in the lower realms so you may return to your body and find
that hours or days have passed. Upward movement will generally be
difficult for beginners but once achieved is usually less dangerous. Still
there are creatures on all levels that serve self first. Be careful.

Seven Spirit Forms

This is just a basic lesson to explain your spirit guides and what those
spirit guides represent and are for as well as how to meet them.

This is just a basic lesson to explain your spirit guides and what those
spirit guides represent and are for as well as how to meet them.

The first spirit guide represents yourself. This guide may appear to you at
other times, he/she may often be your primary guide overall. This is the
guide that should be informing you of problems with your life in general
and helping you through it.

The second spirit guide represents your emotions. This guide is to warn
you away from negative emotions and guide you to happiness.
Your third spirit guide represents your body. This guide is to encourage
you to take good care of your physical body; exercise, good hygiene, and
healthy diet.

Your fourth spirit guide represents your mind. This guide will encourage
you to think and to learn.

Your fifth spirit guide is your earth guide. This guide is to help keep you
both grounded and sensible.

Your sixth spirit guide is your guide to the spirit world. This is the guide
that may guide you through certain meditations or projections, he/she is
also who you will most likely find when it's time to move on after this life is
over.

Your seven spirit guide is your protector. This is the guide that will warn
you away from danger and try to keep you safe.

These seven guides can be met in a meditation. You don't need to be in a

deep meditation, just get comfortable and relax. Take five second inhales
followed by five second exhales. Visualize a place that makes you calm
and relaxed, like a field or forest, it could even be the school gym if that's
what you like. Visualize yourself there in front of a wide circle, standing
just outside it and looking inward. Continue to meditate, don't forget those
five second breaths. Wait for the first guide to appear. When it does, ask
him/her for a message. What and listen. When ready, step to the side(left/
right, your choice) and wait for the second guide. When he/she appears
ask for a message then step to the side again. Continue doing this until
you have met all seven of your guides.

I suggest you keep a pen/pencil and a piece of paper as well as a solid

object to place the paper on all nearby so that as soon you are done with
the meditation you can write down everything that happened. If you can
get comfortable near a computer or laptop, you could use a word
document instead of writing utensils. This way you won't forget the guides
nor the messages, those messages are to help you through this life in
some way.
All the information may be considered private or public according to what
you want.

To share my experience, here's what I found when I did the meditation.

My first guide was a silver dragon, my brother in a past life. My second

guide was a wolf, my grandpa in a past life. My third guide was a panther,
my sister in a past life. My fourth guide was a mantis, a close friend in
several lives. My fifth guide was a wolf, my father in a past life. My sixth
guide was a raven, another close friend of mine in several lives. My
seventh guide appeared as a pillar of light with the outline of a draconic
humanoid figure, my best friend and the commander of my army in my
very first life. They are all both my family and friends in this life. Most of
these guides I had met before doing this meditation, the only one that was
new to me was the seventh guide.

The only message I received was from my third guide, the panther, and
she told me that I need to work out more. I do good by practicing my
martial arts and even better by teaching others, but I've set aside the rest
of my normal workout routine to focus on that. So we agreed that a daily
alternating routine would be good. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I'll
stick to my normal routine, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays I'll focus
on martial arts. My fifth guide, my wolf father, told me to listen to the
panther so that workout routine is one I'll be sticking to until I've joined the
military at which point the military will be telling me when and where to do
what exercises(at least until I'm out of boot camp).

And that's pretty much it. When I did this meditation we had a vanilla
scented candle lit to help us relax and we did this meditation as a group
with my mother-in-law walking us all through it, she's the one who taught
this method to me.

Good luck and I hope this works for you too.

Poppet Doll Creation

To create a poppet you must first find out the zodiac sign of the person
that you will be doing the spell for/on.

Begin the process by sewing together two pieces of cloth that are the
appropriate astral color of the person. While you are doing this focus
upon the person you are making it of.(You may want a picture if you can
obtain one to help your focus)

Make sure you leave an opening so that you may stuff it. Stuff the poppet
with the herbs, and stones(or both)(if you want add a little of their hair or a
piece of clothing)that are appropriate for what you are working.

When this is completed, sew the poppet up. Give it eyes, a mouth and
hair. Again focus upon this poppet as being the representation of the
person. Upon the poppet inscribe the persons' name (from head to toe in
a magickal alphabet such as runes or theban) and zodiac sign.

You now have a poppet of the person that can be used in rituals and
spells.

Red Brick Dust

Red brick dust is a very old, tried and true method to help guard against
malevolent magick and repel evil of all kinds. And, it is something that is
easily obtained.

All one need do is find old red bricks (the older the better) and smash
them with a hammer until they are a pile of dust. You can then add a
handfull to your basic floor wash and clean your floors, window-sills and
thresholds.

You can also lay thin lines of red brick dust against the boards of entries,
under carpets and on window-sills to keep evil from entering.

Red brick dust is a very practical medium that should be a mainstay in

every witches cupboard.
Solar Magick

Original Source: :http://www.ytown.com/oak/solar.html

Solar Magick utilizes the varying positions of the sun throughout the 24
hour cycle of the day and night. This system is particularly useful if you
have working that is not so grave that it requires waiting for the proper
season or astrological sign to arrive. Perfect for everyday magick.

SUNRISE:

This time begins at the moment the sun rises over the eastern horizon
and lasts for one hour. Perfect time to purify objects, individuals or
locations. Also highly condusive to financial and business success,
breaking habits, beginning new projects, travel, warding off jealous
energy of others or self, healing, mental magick that involves the
conscious mind and increases of any kind. Comparable to the moon
beginning its waxing phase.

NOON:

This time begins when the sun is directly overhead at its fullest strength.
Perfect for raising (and possibly storing/charging) large amounts of
magickal energy, improving physical energy/ vitality, protection, money,
power, success, business and completeing rituals begun at sunrise.
Comparable to the full moon at its peak of potency. Use this "noon"
energy from one hour before until the exact moment it is full after which
the sun is considered to be in its waning phase. The exact point of Noon
Is a god time to recite final incantations or light appropriate candles.

SUNSET:

This time begins at the moment the sun falls below the western horizon
and lasts for one hour after. This time should be used for rituals that begin
the process of banishing, binding, ending relationships, hexbreaking,
reversals and decreases of any kind. Can be followed by additional ritual
activity at Midnight which is the darkest point of the sun and the most
potent time for decreasing. Use the sunset time alone without a Midnight
follow up for decrease rituals that are less serious. This time is
comparable to the waning phase of the Moon.

MIDNIGHT:

The sun is directly below and at its greatest point f decrease. Use this
time for serious banishngs (illness, energies and/or individuals) as well as
divination, psychic ability, spirituality, dream magick, protection and
completing rituals begun at sunset. Comparable to the black moon at its
greatest point of decrease. Use this Midnight energy from one hour
before until the exact moment of midnight after which the sun is
considered to be in its waxing phase the exact point of midnight is a good
time to recite final incantations or light appropriate candles.

Smudging

Smudging is an ancient practice of using the smoke from burning herbs

as a way to cleanse the body, objects, or an area of any negative
influences surrounding it. These same herbs can be used in warding and
banishing ceremonies as well, if used properly. The three types of
smudge material I use the most for are sage, cedar, and sweetgrass.

SAGE

Salvia, or the herb sage used for cooking, comes in two major varieties:
S. Officinalis, commonly known as Garden Sage, and S. Apiana,
commonly known as White Sage. The Salvia varieties have been used as
healing herbs for hundreds of years. Artemisia is commonly considered
''Sagebrush'', and is more common in the wilds out here in my native
California. There are two major varieties to the Artemisia : A. Californica,
or Common Sagebrush, and A. Vulgaris, or Mugwort.

There are many other varieties of both Salvia and Artemisia, and all are
effective in smudging. In my Cherokee/Sioux heritage, sage is burned in
smudging ceremonies to drive out evil spirits, negative thoughts and
feelings, and to keep any negative entities away from areas where the
ceremonies are held. In a traditional Plains Sweatlodge, the floor is
generally covered with sage leaves so that those participating have them
readily available to rub all over their bodies during the sweat.

Sage is also used in keeping sacred objects such as pipes or Peyote

wands safe from negative influences. In the Sioux nation, the Sacred Pipe
is kept in a bundle with sage boughs. I also protect my ceremonial
crystals the same way.

CEDAR

Some Junipers are also called ''cedar'', which complicates things a bit.
Some Juniper varieties ARE indeed cleansing herbs, especially J.
Monosperma, or Desert White Cedar. But for smudging, the best is
Western Red Cedar and/or California Incense Cedar. Cedar is burnt while
praying to the Great Spirit or diety of choice while meditating.

Cedar properties work in two ways; to purify and to attract GOOD energy
in your direction. Cedar may also be used to bless a house before moving
in. It is usually available in herb stores in a chipped form, which I sprinkle
over a hot charcoal disc. You can also use mesquite charcoal if you are
out of discs.

SWEETGRASS

Sweetgrass is very important to the Cherokee and Sioux nations. We

braid the sweetgrass in the same fashion as hair braids. We then burn it
by lighting the end of it, and smoking the area, item or person needed.
You can also shave the sweetgrass and use a charcoal disc or mesquite
to burn it, which helps you use less.

Sweetgrass is burnt AFTER smudging with sage, to welcome favorable

influences after the negative influences have been driven out. Sweetgrass
is pretty hard to find these days as there is not an abundance remaining.
The good news is that there are plains cultures who are protecting what is
left so it may still be obtained.

Spirit Nature Divination
How to listen to what Nature has to say to us.

Nature can be a powerful thing, we need to stop and listen for awhile at
the many things nature as to say to us.If we stop and listen for awhile the
spirits of nature can guide you in life answering your questions and so
forth. Many of our ancestors used the spirits of nature to answer their
questions.

The following exercise will help you connect with the spirits of nature.

Find a place outside such as a wooded area/ park somewhere you'll

not be disturbed.
First think of your question, writing this down before-hand will also help.
Find a quiet place in the area you'll be walking in- this is your starting
point.
Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.
Breath deeply and slowly in for 4 out for 4 do this for a few moments
untill you feel fully relaxed.
Call on your spirit helpers/ guides, animal, thanking them for their
presence and help.
Clearly think of your question and focus on it for a few moments.
Open your eyes, whatever you feel, hear or see is your answer , this
may not make sense straight away, notice where your attention is drawn
to and what it shifts to, the spirit is directing you even though you may not
think so.
Observe any thoughts that may be triggered by what your
experiencing, look around , walk about to where you are guided to until
you feel complete.
Return to your starting place and sit and meditate on what you just
experienced.
When your ready write down your experiences and feelings recording
every detail.

This ritual is to help send a spirit on after its' death, and to help you cope
with the loss. It can be done for people and animals.

Materials:

White candle
Blue candle
Bread crumbs
Water
A quiet place where you will not be distrubed and can focus

Procedure:

Light the white candle and meditate on the happy times you had with the
deceased. Then light the blue candle and say ''With this flame I send out
my heart energy to help guide your spirit on to the next phase of being.''
Gently blow on the flame, but don't blow it out, and say ''I give to you the
next breath of life.''

Sprinkle bread crumbs around the candle and say ''I give you food for
your journey.'' Sprinkle the water around the candle and say ''I give you
water for your journey.'' When that is done, concentrate on the spirit
moving on to the next phase of being and say ''The end of one life leads
to the beginning of the next. May the light of this candle guide and protect
you till we meet again.''

Let the blue candle burn itself out. Thank the Mother for bringing the
deceased into your life and thank the Crone for the lesson of death and
the learning of the sending. Snuff out the white candle and ground and
cleanse as usual.
Summoning the Angels *Ritual*

Copyright by http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/dungeon/495/rituals.htm

1. Acknowledge that there is a power within you that is greater than

yourself.

2. Meditate as an active listener, not just always the asker.

3. Now summon the angels. (They usually speak in your own thought
voice.)

4. Experience the outpouring of creative energy releasing within you like a

warm incubator light.

5. Sigh in thanksgiving as you empty your crystal chalice temple of stale

thoughts and negative patterns.

6. Be receptive to listening. Let go of those blocks like notions,

assumptions, myths and criticism that drown out creativity, risks and
unscientific notions.

7. Bless this declaration and instill positive affirmation rather than those
usual notes of self-criticism.

8. Ask for openness. One that does not criticize yourself. If that dreadful
voice arises (and it does), let go of it.

9. Picture yourself as a vital, enthusiastic, healthy, peaceful and creative

sparkle.

10. Embrace and encounter the unlimited power within yourself.

11. Recognize that you are a sacred creative being, inspired by angels,
full of exciting ideas and boundless creative energy.
12. Act on your hunches.

Transvocation
Link: http://www.occultforum.org/forum/topic?id=20434

Hello all;

Upon popular request I am writing this article on the Art of Transvocation.

This means that the state of transvocation is like invocation, but the
summoner retains thier consciousness, and it is like evocation because
the presence can be felt and there is much communication between the
entity and the participant - Transvocation is a state of being where the
summoner retains consciousness and is able to make descisions without
being influenced by the entity. I will try to explain its meaning and use,
and the process of this state. The I will give an example of my latest
transvocation, the summoning of Belial.

There are five states of summoning. The first is evocation, which is calling
a spirit to appear in spiritual form (as in a triangle or circle) The second
state is Invocation, which literally calls the demon within your body (some
say it radiates outwards from within, but this is a matter of perspective)
the third state is transvocation, which uses the personality and
perspective of a demon to gain knowledge and insight. The fourth state is
a state of dissasociation, where the summoner is able to remove thier
conscoiusness from the states of summoning, and is able to seperate
themselves allowing them to temporarily escape. The fifth and most
important state is the state of the SELF often labeled the Ipseic, which
describes the actual self, the inner being that one will realise while
messing with these states. this is the "pure and perfect" state of self that a
demon, angel or god can not touch, and it acts as a release of tension
and a backup plan incase you feel youre being manipulated. Full,
personal understanding of these states is only gained thru the practice of
them.
Once you practice these states you will begin to see how reality itself is
not static. You can manipulate your own reality by letting your mind dip
into these realms. you may begin to feel "Lost" or even "meaningless"
after messing with these states for a while. This is why dissassociation is
so important to the summoner.
Being able to dissassociate from yourself will allow you to escape when a
spirit tries to tempt you into doing something that you do not want to do. It
also allows you to step back and actually see whats going on, to see the
whole picture at once. You can not be afraid to enter these states of mind,
because without a shift in consciousness nothing can happen. That is the
key, allowing yourself to experience these shifts. When you learn how to
dis-associate, you will also begin to learn about the Ipseic, the self. You
will, thru disassociation be able to see the self as you ARE, and all it
takes is this moment of realisation to let you enter this state at any time
you need.

Transvocation can be called a direct method of summoning, because the

only tool one needs to make it work, is the power of the mind. It is a
mental state that you use to open the gateway of communication between
you and a spirit, and the spirt realm. This state of being lies between
evocaton and invocation, and it constantly wavers between these two
consciousnesses. (it is the easiest state of summoning to enter)
While you are transvoking a demon you will have access to the demon's
(spiritual) perspectives. The first few times you go thru this it will blow
your mind. Heres an example: while transvoking Asmodeus, I had
concentrated upon Lust,. when he began to appear in my life, i was
pointed at situations where lust was the determining factor. The spirit
literally peeled away layers around me and let me see into other peoples
intentions. These intentions were, of corse, colored by lust. Suddenly, the
meanings of situations became clear to me, with lust being the motivation
behind people's actions. Then after it showed me the why's of lust it
showed me HOW people are manipulated by it. Some info was also
revealed as to the very nature of lust itself. It was enlightening to say the
least. All the while I had verification that this actually was a demon, and
also, I was able to ask it several questions which the answers were given
to me in the form of a riddle..(ie theres no way I was just imagining it, this
was an actual interaction, and it was awesome!!)

The use of transvocation can make direct communication possible for

you, and there will be no need to draw protective circles or to use fancy
evocations to "attempt" to contact a spirit. A sucessful transvocation can
last for a few hours up to a few days, or even weeks- depending on how
long you let the spirit stay with you. If you need to break away, you must
begin by dissassociating and then entering the Ipseic. Without this, it will
feel like there is no escape from thier "reality". Remember that reality
itself is like water, it is not stable and it can be shaped by your will and
desires..

Transvocation, this state(of being) begins by making a direct link to the

demon.. it works well with godforms as well as independent demons/
spirits/angels. Anything that has a sentience can be communicated with
by this method. Simply by contacting the spirit the gateway is opened.
Concentrating on the essence of what they are and what they represent
often is the best way. For instance, Belial is represented by greed- and
while I was making the connection to him with my mind, I tried to
consume myself with the energies of greed. In this way he was compelled
to come to me upon the principality that like attracts like. If i had been
summoning a being of lust I would have concentrated upon "lust" , the
actual energies of this archetype. Doing it this way automatically places
you in command. This is because you become the director and are a
participant at the same time. The demon has no choice but to obey you.
Each demon, god or being will have it's own unique way of interacting
with you, and you can use this to verify if you are actually dealing with the
demon that you want.
The communication between you and the demon is made thru psycic
images, words that immediately come to your mind thru the subconscious
and, occurence of events that (seem) miraculous. Do not doubt for one
moment that a demon does not have its own agenda, because they do.
They are only acting on thier natural intentions, whatever that be. They
are creatures of divinity, and thus they work in divine ways and methods.
( the terminology here of "Divine beings" descibes a purely spiriutal
force)..Thus as a divine being they will prod and cojole you to get you to
invoke them, so that they can experience thier divinity thru your essence.
(this is true for MOST beings) I trust no spirit, and as long as I dont give
them permissions to take over my being they are still compelled to act on
my behalf, simply because I AM and I WILL it to do so. I am of the firm
belief that nothing can outlast the human will, not even that of a god.
Once you reach the state of transvocation, you may have to re enter it
every few hours, if ift dosent just consume your mind.. Depends on how
long you work with them. The more time you put into it, the more you get
out of it.

Transvocation can be said to be the state of being that takes aspects of

invocation and evocation, and uses it as one process.

Transvocation can also lend itself to the state of gnosis, and while
maintaing your balence between consciousness you can share your
"awareness" with that of a demon. Its uses are limitless once you realise
the possibilities of opening yourself to other realms of awareness like this
but, remember-- when you open yourself to these states of summoning
you will literally be opening a pandoras box and youll see what I mean
when you realise that NOTHING is like what you thought it was. You will
feel like youre in a whole new world. Your not, you just learned to see it in
a whole new way.

Types of Dreams

As you all know, many members of our family have a variety of gifts or
abilities.I think it is important to understand, each and everyone of our
abilities, whether it ranges from, telepathy to medium, we have seen it. A
common ability is prohetic dreams.I have this gift.

There are many other types of dreams, and gifts that come through
dreams, and yours just may be unrecognized.

Here are a few types of dreams:

Amplifying dreams: When a dream is exaggerated, through the person's

traits. extremely. Such as someone who is shy, becoming invisible.

Linked to:Lie detecting, and making your lies come true

Daydreaming:Many ppl believe this is not really dreaming, as you are still
awake. However many ppl have proven that you are still linked to the
astral plane. It can create images of things you hsve already done,or will
do.

Linked to: Precognition, postcognition

Anticipating dreams:dreams where you may sense the outcome of

something, biut only a feeling.

Linked to:Advanced probability

False awakening: When in your dreams, you have dreamt you are
already awake, or just woke up, but you are still dreaming.

Linked to:Dream manipulation(altering others dreams)

(my favorite:)Lucid Dreams: When you are aware you are dreaming, in
your dream.

Linked to: telepathy,precognition

Cathartic Dreams: dreams where you are extremely emotional, whether

angry,or happy.

Linked to: empath manipulation

Vigilant dreams: dreams where you have acute senses, or sharped

senses. Meaning, that the sound made outside your dream, is translated
into another sound in your dream.

Linked to: advanced senses, or empathy.

Past life dreams: when you dream of past life experiences, or your lives
before the one you are living now.

Linked to: postcognition

Precognition dreams: when you dream of something(not always good),
before it happens, that comes true after you wake.

Linked to: precognition.

A few of the most common dreams are:

Nightmares:which symbolizes an issue or fear in waking life, that needs to

be solved physically and mentally.

Recurring dreams: which are dreams that are played over and over agin
until the situation is dealt with in waking life.

Randomized dreams: dreams or sences of random things we have never

seen before, that may be linked to our lives in the future.

What is Chaos Magick

''All great things must first wear a terrifying and monstrous mask, in order
to inscribe themselves on the hearts of humanity.''''

- Fredrick Nietzsche-

The words ''Chaos Magic'' reverberate with mystery and intrigue. It's
rather safe to assume that this was intentional on the part of those who
originally coined the term. Of course, when Gerald Gardener came up
with his reconstruction of European Paganism in the 1950's and called it
''witchcraft,'' he must have been equally well aware of the effect that that
term would have on his contemporaries. There's nothing like a touch of
the ''forbidden'' if you want to intrigue people.

The label of ''Chaos Magic'' suffers from two inherent drawbacks. First,
the ''cyber punk'' connotations of the term tend to attract some of those
misanthropic types who were previously attracted to the label ''Satanist''
for similar reasons. They see it as some kind of ''Satanism Lite,'' as it
were. This subclass of human used to use the term ''witch'' or ''warlock'' to
describe themselves before the term ''Chaos Magic'' came into vogue,
and ''Chaos Magician'' sounds so much cooler. Those who once might
have painted upside-down pentagrams on their black leather jackets and
called themselves ''warlocks'' have now switched to eight-rayed stars and
are calling themselves ''Chaos Magicians'' instead. So instead of
embarrassing the witches or the Satanists anymore, they've taken to
embarrassing the Chaots' instead.

The second (and more important) drawback is that the very idea of Chaos
Magic inherently defies description. It is highly personal and experimental
by its nature. Even those who claim to practice it are hard-pressed to
define what it is , outside of their own personal version. But neither is it
simply ''eclectic witchcraft'', though it's methods certainly are eclectic. It
can only be defined by certain commonalities of thought among those
who claim to practice it, and even among some who thought they were
just ''doing their own thing'' and never knew it had a name.

No Holds Barred Magic

Chaos Magic is dangerous, awesome, full of potential and therefore

highly compelling. It is ''no-holds-barred magic''. The rule is that there are
no rules, besides learning what works for you and using it to accomplish
your will, while avoiding getting stuck in rut of doing everything the same
way all of the time.

In the menace and fascination of the very concept of ''chaos'' lies the
power of Chaos Magic. There is no way to accurately describe Chaos
Magic, any more than one can accurately describe the Tao. ''That which
can be described is not the sacred Tao'', as the old sage said. In a way, I
suppose that the Chaos Magicians are the ultimate ''secret society,''
though it is inherent in Chaos Magic itself, rather than needing to be
enforced by oath or decree.

So why is it called Chaos Magic?

It is called ''magic'' since, like all other forms of Art of the Mages, it seeks
to affect the course of events by non-normal means. Action at a distance.
Events that defy logical causality. Altered states of consciousness. Arcane
knowledge. Power. Ecstasy.
But what makes it Chaos Magic? (Or ''magick'' -- choose your spelling to
taste.) While it may be impossible to describe directly, I can offer a few
opinions on drawing the distinction.

One could begin by saying among Chaos Magicians there is the

underlying assumption of the ''random'' and relativistic nature of life, the
universe and everything. Reality is stochastic in nature, which is to say
that each intelligent entity ''creates'' reality by their interaction and
participation in it. We are adrift in a quantum world of uncertainty.
Existence can not be completely described by either religion or it's
philosophical successor, science.

Chaos Mathematics shows us that what seems random is in fact chaotic

and has a higher ''order'' that can be perceived only from a great enough
perspective. Chaos gives rise to reality itself. It might also give rise to the
tendency for matter to accrue form and perhaps even intelligence.

Strange Attractors

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word ''chaos'' is Greek in

origin. Its original meaning was: ''a vast gulf or chasm; the neither abyss,
empty space, infinite darkness, the first state of the universe.'' In English,
this was refined to mean ''the formless void of primordial matter, the 'great
deep' or 'abyss' out of which the cosmos or structure of the universe was
evolved.'' The popular modern interpretation of the word as being a
synonym for ''disorder'' is a recent and somewhat misleading
development. Both order and disorder are themselves manifestations of
the Primal Chaos. The original meaning had more in common with what
the Eastern mystics call the Tao. I think this is not at all accidental.

So we Chaosists call this primal connectivity ''Chaos'' instead of ''God'' or

some other traditional name to remove any anthropomorphic ideas from
something that is so totally un-human as to defy comprehension -- at
least by intellectual means.

Another reason behind the name is that many of the concepts of modern
Chaos Theory can be given metaphysical interpretation. For example, it's
obvious that various occult systems have many factors in common. In
Chaos Theory, there is something called a ''strange attractor,'' a certain
type of coherency that arises in any turbulent system. Mathematically
speaking, it merely represents certain ranges of numbers that tend to fall
into a recycling set of infinitely regressive values when certain formulae
are applied. As it is usually visualized, it's a three dimensional graph (two
spatial axes representing the complex plane, plus one color axis) of the
value of the iterated function fc(z) = z^2+c, where z and c are complex.
This yields the now-famous Mandelbrot set of images.

What makes it more than a mere arithmetic game is that when computers
are allowed to crank endlessly through the calculations, certain geometric
patterns emerge that bear a striking resemblance to our perceptions of
various real world phenomena. Zooming in on particular areas of the
complex plane, many fascinating visual characteristics are generated,
with similarities to the appearance of such things as swirling water and
rugged coastlines. Therefore it can be used as tool to make predictions
(in this case, how turbulent systems will behave), which elevates it to the
realm of science -- where it is properly referred to as Non-Linear
Dynamics.

A good example of a strange attractor in the physical world is a vortex;

given the right conditions, it will arise in air currents, running water, dust
storms -- anything from the Great Red Spot of Jupiter to the whirlpool in
your bathtub drain. But regardless of the medium, a vortex will always
assume a similar pattern

To apply this concept to the occult, assume any given magical ''system'' is
the medium in which certain patterns (practices, concepts, formulae, etc. )
will emerge -- strange attractors -- that will be strikingly similar to each
other.

In magical terms, a strange attractor would be, say, astral projection, or

energy centers aligned along the spinal column. Or the interaction with
non-corporeal intelligences (gods, demons, spirits, etc.) A kind of pattern
that always seems to arise regardless of the particular belief-set that goes
along with the actual techniques. Within them all lay the ''strange
attractors'' that can be harvested from the morass of archaic symbolism
and put to use by the canny magician.

Chaos Magicians look for these commonalties among seemingly different

systems as clues to an underlying factor that can be stripped of its
unnecessary symbolism if desired and put to directly use with any chosen
set of symbols. The intent is to reveal the practical techniques that
underlying the outer trappings and (one would hope) turn the symbolism
into a personal expression of Art. Chaos Magic has applied such artistic
concepts as post modernism and deconstruction to the study of the
occult, and has achieved some remarkable insights, particularly the idea
that all traditional magical systems are sociologically derived and
culturally biased. This is not an indictment, but simply a recognition of the
facts. The gods are dead. Long live the gods.

Belief And Meta-belief

To quote one writer, Peter Carroll: ''If you want a one-line definition with
which most Chaosists would not disagree, then I offer the following:
Chaosists usually accept the meta-belief that belief itself is only a tool for
achieving effects; it is not an end in itself.''

Meta-belief is an important concept in Chaos Magic. It is the idea that

belief is nothing more than a state of mind, and as such, can be
manipulated by the will. Belief is a psychological state that can be
deliberately self-manipulated, although it has the power to shape our own
reality, and sometimes other people's reality as well. It is the means, not
the end; the vehicle, not the destination.

In The Theater Of Magick, Ray Sherwin wrote: ''The [Chaos] Magician

believes nothing in the sense of having faith. He experiments practically
to ascertain if there is any value in the postulates he has either originated
or borrowed from elsewhere. It is a fact that we all must hold certain
organic beliefs for the sake of convenience. You all believe that the chairs
you are sitting in are real -- most of the time. This is not however a mental
process, but rather an instinctive or organic one without which life would
be impossible.'' This level of belief is not what meta-belief is concerned
with. Rather, it concerns the level of belief that is attained by the method
actor, sometimes referred to in the inverted sense as ''suspension of
disbelief''

The practice of meta-belief confers an awful freedom and an awful

responsibility. Practicing Chaos Magic involves the temporary adoption of
an obsessive belief system that allows for the possibility of magic to
accomplish specific effects, and then the abandonment of that belief
system upon the completion of the work. Subsequent, and even
contradictory belief systems are adopted in turn as need or desire may
dictate. To do this (and not go completely insane) it is of paramount
importance that no one particular set of beliefs is ever accepted as being
ultimately true.

Relativity

This rejection of moral absolutism, more than anything else, accounts for
the sinister reputation of Chaos Magic in modern occultism. Nearly all
previous revivals of occult philosophy, regardless of their public
reputation, have been maniacal about proclaiming their ''truth'' and their
''high moral standards.'' Gerald Gardner, in his 'revival' of Witchcraft,
formulated nearly 200 moral ''laws'' to govern the activities of his
followers, who to this day fight a never ending battle to convince the world
of their benevolence. Alister Crowley and his successors have churned
out reams of prose defending the Thelemic maxim of ''Do what thou wilt
shall be the whole of the Law'' as being a 'greater' system of morality.
Whether it is or not is beside the point. Chaos Magic bypasses the issue
entirely; there is no dogma to indoctrinate you into ''good'' or ''positive''
moral standards before getting the details of the technique. When you
practice Chaos Magic, you must choose for yourself what (if anything) is
good or evil.

As a result, Chaos Magic is magic without limitations. Chaos magic is not

a new system, or a rehash of older systems, or any kind of system at all.
It's a new attitude. It's a different way of looking at the Art of Magic -- as
an expression of Art above all other considerations. Like so many Artists,
Chaos Mages tend toward an attitude of elitism, since a great part of the
creation of Art is the pursuit of excellence, and pride in oneself and one's
creations when excellence is achieved. An elitist attitude (as long as it's
balanced with compassion and doesn't descend into bigotry) is forgivable
in the Artist, for without it no great work of Art would ever be realized.

Some will say that a system of magic without an attached system of

morality to govern it's use is ''dangerous''. While it is a fact that certain
misanthropic types could seize upon the freedom of magical expression
inherent in such an approach and use it to the detriment of their fellow
humans, such socio paths will always find a way to inflict an equal
amount of misery on others whether they practice magic or not. They're
very clever that way.

Chaos Magic isn't ''new'', because every ancient adept who ever struck
out on his or her own heretical path was, in effect, responding to the call
of Chaos. But when a system grows out of any path, when holy books are
written, when rituals and manners and moralities are prescribed for ''the
followers,'' it has ceased to be Chaos Magic. It is only by pushing our
selves out on a limb that we encounter the Chaos Current, and touch the
spark that makes magic a reality.

However, it is not as simple as merely grabbing on to whatever happens

to strike your fancy. Bits and pieces of various and sundry old rituals and
belief structures, kludged together by a given individual and molded into a
''system,'' albeit a personal one, is not Chaos Magic either. Locked-in
belief is locked-in belief. It is far more important to be free to push the
envelope than it is to be ''correct'' -- or even consistent. Chaos Magic is
not simply a reformulated mishmash of old magical traditions with trendy
new labels.

Postmodern Magic

In cultural terms, Chaos Magic can be described as the vanguard of

Western esoteric practice. Unlike it's predesesors, it involves more
spontaneity and eschews a rigid framework of rituals and procedures. It
also explores the techniques of shamanism and sorcery, something most
Western magical traditions have always tended to shun as being
''beneath'' them. It is influenced by many modern cultural trends, such as
cyber punk, post modernism and deconstruction. It tries to integrate many
of the current theories in science and philosophy like quantum physics,
synchronically and, of course, chaos theory with occult phenomena.
There are even influences from occult history, such as Alister Crowley,
Austin Osman Spare, Taoism, Tibetian Buddhism, many forms of native
shamanism and even from certain science fiction and fantasy writers, like
H.P. Lovecraft, Michael Moorcock, Terry Pratchett and William Gibson.

Chaos Magic as commonly defined today derives primarily from the work
of Austin Osman Spare and Peter J. Carroll. (See the chapter on History
for details.) Both rejected most of traditional magical practice as being
unnecessarily complicated, culturally bigoted and generally ineffective,
and fearful of the powerful but dangerous techniques of sorcery and
shamanism. Both also considered traditional occult teaching to be far
more concerned with imparting a system of morality than anything else,
making them in actual fact religions. Spare was the first one to draw the
connection between magic and (in his time) the relatively new field of
psychology, freeing occult practice from the necessity of a religious world-
view. Carroll, along with Sherwin, founded the Illuminates of Thanateros
(IOT) and attempted to also integrate the concepts of Chaos Theory and
Quantum Mechanics with the occult and paranormal.

Due to these influences, Chaos Magic is perhaps the first kind of

ceremonial magic that doesn't approach the subject as an antique art.
Magic need not be handed down from ancient adepts to be ''real''.
Instead, Magic is something to be experimented with and improved upon.
Virtually all other systems (they don't call them ''traditions'' for nothing)
assume that ''The Ancient Masters'' already uncovered all of the secrets
of magic long ago, and all we poor moderns can hope to do is recapture a
glimmer of the glories of the past. This antiquarian attitude has
unfortunately hamstrung the development of the Art of Magic since the fall
of Rome.

Chaos Magic is further distinguished from the ''systems'' of the past by its
approach. It sees ritual magic as psychodrama, rather than worship. As
such, it is quite similar to the Stanislavsky system of Method Acting. One
carefully defines the role one will enact during a magical ritual (including
as part of the ''character'' a belief in the existence of magic itself) and,
surrounded by a setting conducive to that role, throws oneself in to as
inspired of a performance as one can muster. If a sufficient level of meta-
belief is achieved, the gates to effective magic are opened.
Like a method actor, a Chaos Magician seeks to circumvent everyday
reality and suspend disbelief. To do this he or she uses the tools of the
actor: setting, costumes, props, words, sounds, and especially what
Stanislavsky called emotional memory. Any powerful, transformative
experience can be used to tap into the emotional memory, including sex,
pain, confusion, elation, disgust and ecstasy -- especially in paradoxical
combinations.

The Gateway To Magic

The techniques of Chaos Magic are applied by the magician to induce

and utilize a mental state we call gnosis. This application of the term is
similar to the meaning used by the Tantrists, where the discursive mind is
short-circuited and the magician's intention can be imprinted onto the
quantum flux of the universe. Even the briefest moment of gnosis,
attained at a point when ''the gates are open'' and the will is being
channeled through the subconscious mind, can be enough to bring about
a magical result.

Chaos Magicians use sigils (magical intentions that have been rendered
into symbolic glyphs or mantras), ritual techniques from any source,
especially original ones, and artifacts of any chosen culture to form a
magical space, a temporary autonomous zone in which the subconscious
mind can be directed. Gnosis is the gateway to effective magic. It is the
moment of timelessness, the state of magical trance where the mind
interfaces directly with the causal inter connectivity of the universe.

A ritual is basically a map of sub-consciousness, and therefore can be

useful as a guide on the trail one would blaze into one's own psyche.
However, prescribed rituals, along with such contrivances as ''books of
shadows'', ''holy books'', ''publications in class A'' and the like, are
precisely devised to protect the operant from Chaos. In short, there is
always room for new Chaos Magic methods, but none whatsoever for
Chaos Magic systems.

Tao, Zen And Deconstruction

Philosophically, Chaos Magic bears a resemblance to Taoism, except for
the Taoist's attitude of quietism and passively. Success hinges on ego-
annihilation, so there is a lot in common with the Buddhist Nagarjuna and
Madhyamaka schools, and perhaps even more so with the Nyingmapa
school of Tibetan Buddhism. An examination of the Chod rituals of
Tibetan Buddhists will yield valuable clues as to the formulation of
effective Chaos rites. The effect of a Zen Buddhist koan on the discursive
mind is a small taste of what a Chaos Magician seeks.

The practice of Chaos Magic can be destabilizing, because it's designed

to deconstruct belief. Like psychedelic drugs, it can drastically alter your
reality. So it's not for the squeamish, or for those who fear what lurks in
their deepest selves, for it is from those deep selves that the Chaos Mage
forges his or her gods and demons.

Such dualistic concepts as ''white'' or ''black'' magic are not applicable to

Chaos Magic, at least not in the sense of being good or evil. Magic is a
force, like electromagnetism, and has no inherent moral qualities. Peter
Carroll wrote in Liber Null, ''The end results of either path are likely not to
be dissimilar, for the paths meet in a way that is impossible to describe.
The so-called 'middle way', or path of knowledge, consisting of the mere
second hand acquisition of ideas, is an excuse to do neither and leads
nowhere.'' As a result, Chaos Magicians tend toward pushing the
extremes, finding balance by swinging from pole to pole, rather than
seeking ''moderation.''

Tragedy And Comedy

Being morally neutral, Chaos Magic is probably not for those who haven't
already come up with a well-developed code of personal ethics. In fact,
most Chaos Magicians, though not all, would define themselves (if held at
gunpoint) as ''black'' or at least ''grey'' magicians, but not as defined by
those who see the dark side of existence as merely evil. If their magic is
''black,'' it is because it deals with that which is dark and hidden, and
drawn from the primal abyss of Chaos. People with no ethical standards
of any kind whatsoever tend toward eventual self-annihilation anyway.
Chaos magical practice only accelerates the process, usually ending in
some form or another of spectacular insanity. But don't look to Chaos
Magic to provide moral guidance. If one desires that, it simply must be
sought elsewhere.

It is also magic that dare not take itself too seriously. Chaots' are
generally known for having a well developed sense of humor, and this is
often expressed in their magical work, from mock-serious invocations of
Bugs Bunny as a trickster god, to the practice of ending every ceremony
with a round of roaring laughter. Though the humor may tend toward the
satirical, there is a large measure of genuine amusement at what a
colossal joke the universe actually is, and how much fun it can be to
laugh along with it.

Politics and Religion

In recent times, occultism has been bound up to a large extent with

political preference. Most people require some sort of framework on
which to hang their opinions and preferences, which makes a mix of
magic and politics in a holistic system much more attractive than politics
alone. The emergent magical systems of the present day, such as
Thelema and Neo-Paganism, are popular precisely because they
combine a socio-political belief with a magical appreciation of reality. It
gives their politics a ''higher purpose''. Politics, the art of manipulating
others into conforming to (or at least acknowledging the predominance of)
a particular set of cultural values, has nothing whatsoever to do with
Chaos Magic. Chaos Magic exposes the folly of politics by showing us
that all efforts to bring order to this dimension are ultimately futile.
Attempts to organize around fixed belief structures are attempts to
increase the certainty of existence. This is anti ethical to the concept of
Chaos, where belief is spontaneous, as life-force is spontaneous and
evolution itself is spontaneous.

And in any case, an over-politicized magical group is invariably stultified

and unable to cope with the swift changes in consciousness that can
occur within the group, especially when their consciousness develops in
response to spiritual and magical considerations. How can we seriously
expect a system that combines magic and politics to be anything but
drastically unstable? This is why virtually all attempts at ''pagan eco-
politics'', ''feminist spirituality'' and other such cross-breeds have been
such dismal failures, hardly raising a blip on the cultural radar screen
before dissolving into schism and infighting.

Similarly, it can be said that religion and Chaos Magic are fundamentally
incompatible. The one restricts, the other liberates. The one requires that
intellect be twisted to accommodate a prescribed ludicrous belief system
and adhere to it perpetually, the other freely adopts ludicrous belief
systems of its own choice and for its own purposes -- and then destroys
them. Religion -- and most magical systems are and always have been
essentially religious in nature -- requires a single mind-set for all people,
for all times, in all circumstances. Chaos Magic demands personal,
flexible tenets of belief; in other words, meta-belief. Religion requires
certain thoughts and actions to be classified as good or evil. Chaos Magic
attempts to understand and embrace all aspects of existence, with moral
value to be judged only by the individual.

Therefore, Chaos Magic is not concerned with such amorphous mystical

goals as attaining Nirvana, finding your True Will or crossing the Abyss, at
least not directly. If you wish to worship the Goddess or commune with
your Holy Guardian Angel, you would do better to look elsewhere; modern
Neo-Paganism offers a vast smorgasbord of various amalgamtions of
religion and magic, from Wicca to Thelema, from White Light
Brotherhoods to the Church of Satan. The goal of Chaos Magic is
developing practical magical techniques, that create real, perceptible
changes according to the will of the magician. This is not limited to
external physical effects, but also (and perhaps more importantly)
includes operations designed to alter the psyche of the magician in
profound ways -- but in ways the magician has chosen or wishes to
explore, rather than in a preordained manner. The ''structure'' of Chaos
Magic, if it can be said to even have one, is a non -structure. It is
vehemently non-hierarchical. Chaos Magic is magical anarchy, but in the
true sense of the word -- it is magic without leaders.

Embracing The Void

With Chaos Magic, the principle is that you can experience anything you
wish as you wish it; this is the Chaosists take on ''Do what thou wilt shall
be the whole of the Law.'' Therefore it is up to you where and when, and
with what you involve yourself.

In short then, Chaos Magic is Chaos Magic. It is not a new religion, nor is
it just a new magical system. It is not a ''system'' at all. Don't ask others to
define it for you in sociological, political or religious terms. Although they
may be able to construct a dogma that makes sense, it will not have
anything to do with Chaos.

Or as Fats Waller put it when asked about the nature of Jazz: ''If I have to
explain it to you, you'll never know!''

Chaos, being Chaos, has no attributes save itself. This leaves the
difficulty of describing it, because it is not an ''it''. Chaos Magic is a non-
dualistic gateway, which has confounded even those who ''originated'' it
by being so multifarious that its development will always advance in
unpredictable directions. Chaos Magic will always grow independently of
any one source. No one can ''teach'' you Chaos Magic. To paraphrase
Austin Spare, ''All a teacher can ever do is show you your own
magnificence.'' So all I can hope to do with this writing is to entice you to
follow your own path. I only point my finger at the moon; you must travel
there yourself.

Chaos Magic is an extension beyond our reality and beyond the

traditionalist systems. To call it a ''system'' simply underlines the trap
humans fall into when needing to conceptualize. If one is unsure how to
proceed, and has no experience in magic at all, one is sure to find within
the complexity and variety of traditional paths a mix of methods that suits
his or her nature. However when he or she has honed his or her talents
on these tried and tested systems, the next step must be the Void and the
necessary development of original methodologies -- which is the heart of
Chaos Magic, and that which will propel the Art of the Mage into the
twenty-first century, free at last from the constraints and superstitions of
the past.

This new way of practicing the Art of Magic is as free as possible of all
moral dogma, a way solely oriented to personal discovery. Because the
practice aims to assimilate and then surpass the limited dualistic
approaches to Magic which has hallmarked the traditions and shackles us
to the past, it is by its nature beyond our comprehension, and beyond our
ability to predict what direction it will take.

But its interface is Chaos, so by popular consensus, ''Chaos Magic'' is its

name. And it can be described most succinctly in the words of Hassan-Il-
Sabbah: ''Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.''
