| Problem 1 @p Let's consider the airplane below and its model presented on the right. Knowing that a = Sm, b = 12.5m, ¢= 16m ‘and its mass is 60000kg, calculate the forces on each landing gear (note there is 2 main landing gear) 4 = centre of gravity of the airplane Problem2 (6p) Let's consider the beam on the right, representing a transport airplane wing when on ground. The different parameters are defined as follows: ‘Sm, © be 1.8m, + c=4m, © the engine mass is 2500 ke, the wing mass is 12000 kg (uniformly distributed from the root to the tip) and the vertical force up-ward applied by the main landing gear is 260 kN ‘Analyse the beam through the following steps: 1. Drave the ffee body diagram ofthe wing and calculate the fores and moment applied by the fuselage on the wing 2. Draw the shear and bending moment diagram ofthe wing 3. Indicate where the bending moment is the highest > /¢4e benag yee. ‘4, Without any calculation, draw the stress distribution on this ection ‘© = centre of gravity ofthe engine Page 2/3 Problem3 (6 pi) Let’s consider the following landing gear. Its attached to the wing and fuselage at points A and B by pins in double shear in steel. The ultimate shearing stress is 100 MPa in al the connections. When the airplane is on ground, a vertical force of 260 kN is applied at point D. As it is operated on ground to turn, a lateral foree of 120 KN appears at point D too, as shown on the drawing below. Knowing that a= 2.8m, b= 1.25m and ¢ = 1.25m: 1. Calculate the forces applied by the wing on the main landing gear at points A and B 2. Calculate the minimum diameter for each pin at point A and B 3. Draw the normal force (traction/compression force) diagram of member AD 4, Indicate on which part of AB this normal force is the highest. Problem4 (6p) A A ‘A steel shaft and an aluminium tube are connected to a fixed support and to a rigid disk as shown in the figure below (representing a cross section). Knowing that the intial stresses are zero, determine the maximum torque To that can be applied to the disk if the allowable stresses are 120 MPa in the steel shaft and 70 MPa in the aluminium tube. After having indicated what is G, use G = 77 GPa for steel and G = 27 GPa for aluminium. ie Page 3/3
