C. Resources: One sheet of bright colored paper per person, one paperclip per person, box of
markers

D. Activity Description:

Each participant will receive a bright colored piece of paper and fold it three ways like a tri-fold
brochure. How to fold: place paper long ways, take the right side and fold it and smooth the
edge, then take the left side and fold over the right side creating a flap like opening. On the front
of the brochure each participant will write their name in a decorative way that describes them.
Participants will then open the brochure so the entire paper is flat and list one category on each
of the panels with their choosing. The head of the activity will give examples like my best
feature, my proudest moment, my favorite activity, or something I'm good at, etc. All
responses are just for the person who has written it, so no one else will read what each individual
has written. Everyone will provide the answers on each of the panels in the brochure. When
everyone has completed their responses, they will close the brochure and paper clip it shut. Each
individual then proceeds to pass their brochure to the partner on the right. Turn the brochure to
the back and each person will write a positive comment about that person or an uplifting quote
they enjoy. Even if each individual doesnt know that person well, it can be simple things like I
like your hair, nails, eyes, etc. These comments can either be anonymous or you can sign your
name. Anything can be written as long as it is positive. At the end of the activity after everyone
has written on each others brochures, give time for self-reflection and read the comments on the
back. Then we have a discussion about what it was like to read things others had written about
them, if anyone was surprised about what was written, if anyone needs clarification about
something they can't read or don't understand. I encourage everyone to keep their brochures and
often read them reminding themselves of their strengths.

E. This activity is considered intragroup because it consists of actions within two or more
persons requiring positive verbal or nonverbal interaction. Each person providing a
positive comment or quote about someone else is nonverbal interaction by each person in
the class.

F. Adaptation: Individuals with dementia would value from this activity by helping to
improve memory, hand function, cognitive function, and attention. Depending how
severe the disability this activity could be written by a helper writing down answers to the
questions given by the individual. This activity would also be helpful if the individual
suffered severe memory loss, for a family member to write down responses specific to
the individuals life and have them read it to try to jog memory. It is a task-oriented
activity so even using it to describe positive things that happened throughout the week or
day would helpful to recall memories overall. The brochure also doesnt have to passed
from person to person, it could simply be a self-reflection activity for an individual.
