Standard 3 Development and Learning

Title: Daily Lesson Plan

Date: Fall 2015

Artifact Description: The following artifact is the Supplementary aids and

Services/Accommodations IEP form for a student on my caseload at Shullsburg Schools.
This student receives specific supports through their IEP (both in the special education
classroom and in the general education classroom) to help them be successful.

ALIGNMENT
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment
This artifact best aligns with standard three of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and
Licensure Standards which states: The teacher understands how pupils differ in their
approaches to learning and the barriers that impede learning and can adapt instruction to
meet the diverse needs of pupils, including those with disabilities and exceptionalities.
This artifact aligns with standard three because it offers different accommodations,
supplementary aids and services for a student based on the students needs. Students with
special needs often learn differently than their peers, and knowing how to provide the
appropriate accommodations, supplementary aids and services based on their specific
needs is necessary for learning to occur.

UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Statement

Alignment
I believe this experience best aligns with KSD1.b. of the UW-Platteville School of Education
Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition Statements which states: the candidate displays
knowledge of the typical developmental characteristics, learning styles, skills, interests,
developmental, backgrounds, cultural heritages of students and is always aware of the
broad ranges and variety present for each of these student characteristics and lifestyles.
This artifact aligns with this standard because it demonstrates specific supports students
with special needs require for success. By using my knowledge to designate appropriate
accommodations, the student will be provided with a more meaningful and individualized
learning experience.

Secondary Alignment
KSD2.a. Creates an Environment of Respect and Rapport

Reflection
What I learned about teaching/learning:
I have learned valuable information about student learning form this experience. Ive
learned that in order for some students to learn, they need to be allowed certain
accommodations. Whether it be testing accommodations, certain presentation of subject
matter or environmental needs, these accommodations are essential supports that we as
educators can put in place to allow for the student to succeed.

What I learned about myself as a prospective educator:

From this experience, I gained knowledge of how to create, establish, and implement
appropriate accommodations for the students I service. For example, a student who
received alternate reading instruction outside of the general education classroom will
require that when in the classroom for content area classes such as science and socials
studies the content be read to them. Having this understand and knowledge will assist me
as an educator because I understand that not all students learn the same, and that its
important for students to find success and that they are able to find success when given the
appropriate supports.
