Coating thickness and appearance depends on the following:

1. Steel grade
Silicon content of steel significantly affects its reactive capacity, therefore, not all steel grades
can ensure the desired thickness or aesthetic appearance of coating. Steels of high-silicon and
Sandelin range are not recommended for hot-dip galvanizing. On these steels one can obtain
coatings of increased thickness, grey color without pattern typical for hot-dip galvanizing.
However, corrosion resistance of the coating is not affected by these factors.

2. Steel structure thickness and overall dimensions

Light weight parts with small wall thickness usually get a coating of small thickness and good
aesthetic appearance. Thick-walled heavy structures due to process specifics can have a
coating of increased thickness and non-uniformly spread on the surface.

3. Welded joints condition

Inappropriate quality of welded joints, as well as high silicon content in welding electrodes
can cause coating defects on welded joints.
