- TOKINA 100 2.8 ATX MACRO is an absolute must-own. One of best lenses full stop. For outdoor
shooting, underexpose by 1/3 stop due to it being a macro lens. Highest rated non-nikon
lens. There is no discussion, you are getting this lens. Krockwell one of sharpest ever tested!!!

- IF YOU DO NOT BUY YOU ARE AN IDIOT: 135mm 2.8 AI manual nikor. INCREDIBLE. SUPER SHARP.
$150. SUPREME. CAREFUL, GET THE AI VERSION. IT IS A MANUAL LENS. Insanely sharp and
cheap. MOST AMAZING PICTURES. TOP THREE OF ALL LENSES. Sharper than $1300 nikor
135mm. The sister of this lens 105 f2.5 is just as good, mega sharp (a little bit sharper than
135), and it is the lens that took the most famous photo. It is another must get lens.
- 18-35 G (NOT D!!! D IS RUBBISH!) 3.5-4.5 is no1 recommendation for wide zoom. Awesome.
No VR but not needed for outside. Very sharp. $700 new. Very lightweight and sharper and
cheaper than 16-35. TACK SHARP. $700 new, second hand is almost impossible to find. Highest
recommendation. A sin not to get this lens. TB: GET IT!!! KR- as sharp as black magic and as 16-
35 absolutely superb.
- For 50mm (every photographer must have a 50mm prime!!!) get manual 50mm 1.8 nikor
pancake E series sharpest 50mm, no distortion, super cheap and so slim it is no extra effort
to carry it around. Its manual focus. Lightest and thinnest lens. Super sharp. Price: 20-50!!!
MUST OWN. Zero distortion even at 1.8! For 50mm prime, 1.8 D lens is the best, sharpest, no
distortion, tough, great. But pancake comes first. Also the 50mm f/2 is fantastic.
- MUST OWN #3: nikkor 200 f/4 AI lens. $60-80 ebay. 9 blades give round bokeh. 5 elements only.
(Tamron 70-200 has 23 elements, 80-200 has 16). But no vibration. Tb: not needed for me...?

- SECRET MUST OWN LENS: The only recommended wide angle prime is 20mm f3.5 nikor manual
non-d version. Sharper than 20mm 2.8, which is also great (but not too good says
elsewhere!!!). Hard to find. Otherwise the 18-35mm zoom is the way to go. (well, there is one
more the 10.5mm DX fisheye). Brutally sharp and about $180 used!
- Best ever made and sharpest 300 mm lens and cheaper than the $6000 bastard Nikkor
300mm f/4.5 ED IF AI-S (if means internal focus). Compact, light weight, only 7 elements. Blows
anything else, incl. The 6000 dollar one. This one $190 used. No VR. Secret must-own. It has a
gold ring to distinuish from others on ebay. Top highest recommendation. Sharpest. But no
VR. Consider.
- MUST OWN INCREDIBLE OMG LENS: the lens of the year 2015 beats the black magic lens!
TAMRON 15-30 2.8 newly released. Big, heavy. 9.5 out of 10 rating. Autofocus fast. Better
vignetting than 14-24 magic lens. It has VR! A very very serious contender to 14-24. Better
corner sharpness! Corner sharpness is incredible. Made in japan. Negatives: very big and
heavy. Coma is amazing, great astro lens. $1200. Also, its 3.2 rather than 2.8. Phenomenal
lens. No filters. Beats 14-24 and beats 18-35 for its sharpness. And beats any 16-35.
- 70-300 NIKKOR 4.5-5.6 G series VR $300 used
- SECRET MUST-OWN VOIGTLANDER 40MM BETTER THAN PANCAKE, f/2. Extreme precision,
amazing. It has a cult following. Nikon never made anything this good. Better than a 10,000
dollar lens. $450.

o Tokina 16-28 2.8 do not get it lots of problems . this was meant as a cheaper alternative
to nikkor 14-24 black magic lens, but fails totally. Extremely low quality.
o MUST NOT GET 35-70 NIKOR 3.5-4.5
 o Dont get 50mm 1.4 too much distortion, and 1.8 is plenty. Save money and get 50mm
1.8.
o 10-24 do not get. Chinese. 12-24 nikon much better same price.
o 24-70 2.8 is not that sharp.

TB CONSIDER 3 PRIMES! YOU NEVER SHOOT 20 OR 25 ON YOUR 17-50!!!! And with 36 megapixels
you have plenty of space to crop. Tb WILL GET THREE PRIMES! This is where beautiful light depth leads
to great shots!!!

PRIME LENSES GIVE DEPTH TO IMAGES, OTHER LENSES COMPRESS AND MAKE FLAT IMAGES!!!

TB: you can have 28-300 nikor and then 3 primes wide, normal and tele. Add macro. Maybe fisheye.

Checking used lenses

- Corrosion on contacts
- Loose screws
- Turn at your ear and listen for internal rattle for loose elements or anything broken inside.
- Sand while turning the rings
- Flashlight inside for dust, haze, mould
- Speckle spots on the lens coating ok if not too bad
- Dents to see if it has been dropped
- No haze on glass
- Uneven or egg-shaped aperture hole
- Take test shots
- Push aperture blades open and let them snap back any stutter or creep?
- On ebay check feedback, and check other items the person is selling

COMMENTS

Rockwell 16-35 f/4 is the sharpest ever made ultrawide nikkor lens. Sharper than black magic. And it
has VR. Heavy. LATER: 16-35 and 18-35 are identical optically and for sharpness. But if money is no
issue get 16-35 (angry photographer).

16-35 has massive distortion and when corrected is less wide.

Moose Peterson 18-35 corner to corner sharp and blows everything else!

Cameralabs if you dont need IS then 18-35 is better!

Others 18-35 is sharper

Dxo 18-35 easily beats 16-35

Rockwell 20mm f1.8 is sharpest 20mm ever by nikon. No comparison at all to 2.8!!! and is superb for

THEN 70-200 OR 80-200 OR SO (80-200 af-d f2.8 nikon new $1200 used $500). DISADVANTAGE IS NO
VR, ADVANTAGE IS SUPER SHARP. On the other hand, you should never shoot 300mm handheld, and on
the tripod you disable VR anyways. Check cheaper option. Another option is 300 prime and 70-300 still.
