11 Chemistry Final Review

You will not have to define words, but you will need to know what they mean to use them
properly.

From the Midterm…

Chapter 2 (Analyzing Data)

- Conversions between units
o Temperature (ºC & K)
o Conversions between units with prefixes (eg km to m)
- Putting numbers into scientific notation
- Putting numbers into standard notation
- Adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing in scientific notation

Chapter 8 (Ionic Bonds)

- Writing ionic formulas from the name
- Naming ionic compounds from formulas

Chapter 9 (Covalent Bonds)

- Writing Covalent formulas from the name
- Naming covalent compounds from formulas

Chapter 10 (Chemical Reactions)

- Know the 5 different types of reactions. Be able to recognize them and predict products
from the reactants
o Synthesis
o Combustion
o Decomposition
o Single-replacement
 Remember, in order for a reaction to occur, the element that is replacing
the other must have more energy!
o Double-replacement

Chapter 11 (The Mole)

- Know how to calculate the number of particles, moles, and mass
- Know how to find empirical and molecular formulas

Chapter 12 (Stoichiometry)
- Calculating the mass of a product when given the mass of a reactant
- Calculating products from limiting reactants
New Material…
This is pretty much just a list from your notes – go through your booklets and make sure you
know the material!

- Know & understand characteristics of liquids
o Density & compression
o Fluidity
o Viscosity
o Surface tension
