If a drive in your LinkStation fails, it is simple to replace it. Follow the steps below to replace a failed hard drive.
Drives in RAID 1
If your drives are in a RAID 1 array, you can identify which drive has failed from Settings by navigating to System - Storage. Shut down the
LinkStation and replace the failed drive promptly. When the RAID is rebuilt, your data is copied to the new drive. No data is lost in this case.
Note: If the other drive fails before your new drive is installed, all data on the array will be lost.
Drives in RAID 0 or Normal Mode
If your drives are in a RAID 0 array or normal mode, identify the failed drive from Settings by navigating to System - Storage. Shut down the
LinkStation and replace the failed drive. All data on the failed drive and any array that it was part of is lost.
Caution!
• The LinkStation is fragile. Handle it with care.
• Do not lift the LinkStation by the front panel as it has been designed for easy removal and may cause you to drop the device.
• Before working on the LinkStation, discharge static from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Static may damage your LinkStation or drive.
• Use caution when working inside of the LinkStation to avoid injury due to sharp metal parts.
• Do not disassemble or modify any components when replacing a hard drive as this will void your warranty.
• Damage done to the LinkStation by improper disassembly is not covered by warranty.
• Do not reverse the right and left hard drives, or your data may be lost.
• Replacement drives should be the same capacity as the drive being replaced, or larger.
• Do not use a hard drive that has been used in another LinkStation, TeraStation, or computer. Replacement drives should be blank. Using a drive that
already has data on it as a replacement drive may cause unexpected behavior such as the loss of all your data.
• Use a Buffalo OP-HDBST series drive of the same size as the replacement drive.
