Wheel Tractor Scraper(Cat 621F)

Introduction: Scraper is self sufficient and self operating construction equipment designed to
dig, load, dump and spread and sometimes called a carry all. Scraper is a machine which can
scrape the ground and load it simultaneously, transport it over the required distance, dump at
the desired place and then spread the dumped material over the required area in required level
and return to the pit for the next cycle. But it is not suitable for:

(i) hard rock

(ii) certain sands which will not pile up into a scraper
(iii) and wet or muddy material which make discharging of a scraper difficult.

Basic operating parts of scraper:

(i)Scraper Bowl: It is a pan to hold scraped material and is capable of tilting down for digging or
ejecting. The size of the bowl describes the size of scraper i.e.,designed for optimum loading,
material retention and ejection.
 Excellent productivity with a 10% increase in bowl capacity, improved draft arm protection,
and better load retention. Low-profile design of the bowl offers less resistance to incoming
materials, while cellular construction adds strength and dent resistance to bowl sides and floor.

(ii)Cutting Edges: The bowl has a cutting edge attached at the bottom to make shallow cut. May
be adjusted according to job conditions. For most efficient loading, use the thinnest edge that
provides satisfactory wear life and impact resistance.

Depth of Cut – Max. 333 mm Cutting Edge – Thickness 29 mm

(iii) Apron: This is a wall in front of the bowl which opens and closes to regulate the flow of
earth. It is raised during the loading and dumping operations to aalow the material to flow into
or out of the bowl.the apron is lowered during hauling to prevent spillage.

(iv)Tail gate or Ejector: It is the rear of the pan(rear wall of the bowl) which is capable of
forward and backward movement inside the bowl. The ejector is in rear position during loading
and hauling, while activated to move forward during spreading, hence providing positive
discharge of the material in the bowl.

621F has the constant spreading control and spillguard.

Purposes:

 Due to Auger scraper arrangement-

 An optional auger mechanism in the bowl improves self loading capacities by lifting
material off the cutting edge and carrying it to the top of the load.
 In a soft limestone mining operation, as it offers elimination of dust clouds that were
created by other type scrapers when used in this application.
 It has the optimal retarder(extends brake life) hence it can be used on the project having
severe downhill slopes.
 Contour grading of building site
 Cutting drainage or irrigation ditches
 Stripping top soil.
 For the work of long duration due to laminated thermo shield which keeps the surface
temp. in the engine compartment below the flash point of diesel fuel, hence for hot
weather condition & heavy duty it is feasible.
 Its tire provide maximum floatation , hence it can be used on soft earth.
 The travel speed is upto 44 kmph hence reduction in cycle time.
 The push-pull attachments allow two individual machines to act as a self-loading system,
typically loading both machines in less than a minute i.e., for large site clearance.
 The scraper elevator can efficiently prepare soil from the cut area for more effective
compaction at the fill area.
 It is self loading hence remove the necessity/procurement of other loading equipment.
 For laying the earth in uniform thickness.
 Its hauling speed is 44km/h.
 The scraper is the dominant tool in highway construction and dam due to moving earth capacity for
distance upto 2 miles and laying them uniformly.
 These are able to load themselves without the help of pusher.
