SECTION 18: PART 1 – GENERAL
1.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
ADD NEW SUB CLAUSE
1.1.4 Samples
1. The Contractor shall submit samples of each different type of finished joinery item
required in the works.
2. The samples when approved shall be retained on site for reference as the
standard which shall be maintained during the course of the works.
3. Samples required shall include but not be restricted to:
(a) Skirting section minimum length 300mm.
(b) Architrave section minimum length 300mm.
(c) One sample of each type of door specified in the works.
(d) Post formed joinery
(e) Shelving
4. Contractor shall provide the following:
(a) Workshop drawings for all woodwork, including elevations, large scale
sections and proposed method of fixing.
(b) Manufacturer’s technical date for all proprietary items.
(c) Samples of each item of ironmongery, curtain rails guard rails and other
proprietary items are to be provided for approval.

SECTION 18: PART 2 – WOOD TREATMENT
2.2 PRESERVATIVE TREATMENT
2.2.1 General Application
ADD ITEM NOS. 4, 5, 6 & 7
4. All timber for permanent incorporation in the works shall be treated with
preservative to provide protection against damage from insect larvae, termites and
fungal decay. Organic solvent type preservatives shall contain water repellant.
5. All plywood to be incorporated in the works shall be manufactured using WBP

adhesive.
6. Laminated plastic sheet shall be heavy duty formica and 1.5mm thick to BS 3794
class 1.
7. Shelving
Post formed laminated worktops to be manufactured by an approved specialist,

Formica Middle East or equal & approved.
Post formed unit shall consist of Formica HGP grade laminate bonded to high
quality chipboard to B.S. 5669 (1979).

SECTION 18: PART 5 – JOINERY
5.2 WORKMANSHIP
5.2.1 Joinery Workmanship
ADD ITEM NOS. 8 to 11
8. Fixing of weather, draught, smoke, or fire seals shall be carried out strictly in
accordance with the instructions of the manufacturer of the proprietary item.
Rebates in joinery to receive inserts shall wherever possible be carried out during
manufacturing of the doors and frames, and after delivery of the inserts to ensure
a true fit.
9. Nail heads which will be visible in complete work are to be pushed below surfaces
of timber. Screw heads in timber which will be visible in complete work are to be
countersunk not less that 2mm below the timber surface; all screws are to have
clearance holes screws of 8 gauge or more and all screws into hardwood are to
have pilot holes.
10. Joinery to be made to the following tolerance:
 Straightness in each 8m : +/- 5mm

(not cumulative)
 Length up to 2m : +/- 3mm
 Squareness of frames/linings : 1mm in 500mm
 Clearance between door leaf : 2mm(+1mm-0.5mm)

and Frames
11. Joinery, where possible shall be shop manufactured prior to delivery to site.
5.3.2 Fire Resisting Doors
ADD THE FOLLOWING ITEM:
7. Door fire rating as specified elsewhere shall comply with every requirement of
Qatar Civil Defence Department (QCDD).
8. Viewing panels shall comply with NFPA/QCDD Requirements.

SECTION 18: PART 7 – IRONMONGERY
7.2 PRODUCTS
7.2.1 General
ADD ITEM NOS. 5 to 10
5. Where ironmongery items schedule are available in either “hand” the Contractor
shall be responsible for ordering the appropriate hand based on the door swings
shown on the plan.
6. Ironmongery as scheduled is to be from the “FSB Germany” range.
7. Master Keying and suiting of locks is to be as detailed in the Master Key schedule
to be provided by the Supplier to suit Client requirements.
8. All external doors to have aluminium threshold of Extruded aluminium sections

incorporating neoprene weather strip.
9. Ironmongery Group Schedule (Refer to attached schedule).

10. Weather, Draught, Smoke and Fire Seals
(a) Weather and draught seals for doors shall be of a high quality proprietary
type Sealmaster or equal and approved by the engineer composed of
elastomeric inserts set in aluminium holders to the profiles shown on the
contract drawings.
(b) Intumescent Fire & Smoke Seals.

Doors specified to be fire resisting shall incorporate intumescent fire and
smoke seals of high quality approved proprietary type Sealmaster or equal
and approved consisting of aluminium holders containing intumescent
compound and flame retardant neoprene.
(c) The intumescent material shall be of type specially compounded to remain

hard under normal conditions and to intumesce quickly when needed, with
adequate bulk reserve to ensure full time rating protection.
