About Punjab Agricultural University
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), established in 1962, is a premier
Agricultural University of India. The PAU is mandated to impart teaching,
research and extension education in agriculture and its allied fields. Its
immense contribution in overall growth in agriculture and human resource
development has given it the status of the biggest engine of development in
Punjab. The University has carved its name in the history of agriculture for its
motherly role in ushering Green Revolution leading to food security in India.
Thereafter, it continued to lead agricultural research with significant
contributions to conservative agriculture. In recognition of these outstanding
achievements in agricultural research, education and effective transfer of
technology, PAU was first to win the 'ICAR Best Institution Award' in 1995.
Recently, it has been ranked (NIRF) at 40th place among all Universities in the
country by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2017. PAU has
also been adjudged as the third-best agricultural university of India and
number one among State Agricultural Universities as per rankings (2017) of
Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi. The ranking is in
accordance with the improved standard of higher agricultural education in
tune with the World University Framework. The Punjab Agricultural University
has four constituent colleges, viz. College of Agriculture, College of
Agricultural Engineering and Technology, College of Home Science and
College of Basic Sciences & Humanities. They all have excellent and dedicated
faculty in the teaching, research and extension education schemes. The
contributions of PAU which are in consonance with pro-farmers government
policies and support of the State/Central governments are well recognized.
Punjab Academy of Sciences
The Punjab Academy of Sciences (PAS) came into being at the time of holding
of 83rd Session of the Indian Science Congress at Punjabi University, Patiala in
1996. Since then, the Academy has arranged 20 Annual Congress Sessions.
At present, this registered body has more than one thousand and four hundred
life members. The Academy has conferred its Honorary Fellowship on one
hundred distinguished scientists from India and abroad, all of whom have
significantly contributed towards bringing innovation in science and
technology. Since 2002, the Academy is holding "Children Science Congress
for students of 10+2 class in Punjab. The Academy is also bringing out an
annual journal of research namely "Journal of Punjab Academy of Sciences".
The main aims of the Academy are as follows
• To promote the cause of science in Punjab, with respect to its basic and
applied aspects
• To encourage original research in general and with reference to Punjab in
particular
• To create scientific temper and awareness among the masses
• To develop interaction among the scientists with particular reference to
those of inter-disciplinary branches
• To work out strategies for sustainable use of all natural resources and to
spread awareness on various environmental issues.
Call for Abstracts and Papers
The members of the Punjab Academy of Sciences are requested to submit
their original research contributions in any of the sections given below. Not
more than two papers, either as sole or with co-authors, can be submitted.
Only soft copies of abstract (maximum 250 words) formatted on MS word (A4
size) in Arial font, font size 10, in single line spacing with 2.5 cm margins on all
sides be submitted by 31.12.2017. The abstract may be sent through
electronic mail to psc2018@pau.edu as an attachment in MS word format with
above specifications. The name of the presenting author should be marked
with an asterisk (*) along with email id. The decision for oral/poster
presentation will be strictly followed as per approval of the Technical Review
Committee. The papers screened by the committee may either be published in
the seminar proceedings or selected papers may be published in the special 21st PUNJAB SCIENCE CONGRESS
issue of Journal of Punjab Academy of Sciences, as per norms. (FEBRUARY 7-9, 2018)
