A Brief Note

The Indus Valley Civilization has bagged a good amount of academic attention;
there is no doubt that in theinstitutes, where work relevant to South Asia is
undertaken, have been instrumental in putting in place projects leading to
extended studies on the Neolithic and Bronze Age sites through out the region,
spreading over to India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and areas in the Persian Gulf.

The great spread of the urban settlements in a larger area in subcontinent has
thrown many challenges to the scholars, who are constantly finding similarities
and variations in the development of material culture on multiple sites.

Indus Valley Civilization is constantly in search of answers to manyquestions

raised every now and then in result of new research and occasional excavations,
in South & West Asia.

The Conference on Mohenjodaro& Indus Valley Civilization is an effort to bring

together scholars working today on third and second millennium BCE in the
larger context.

The Conference shall discuss new research, find out means of enlarging scope of
academic studies, forge new collaborations, consider the age old question of
preservation of archaeological ruins exposed to the natural and man made
reasons, and above all the presentation of the bronze age sites.

The work in American/western countries has been sumptuous, Japan and India
are the other centers where the academic focus is producing good results;
besides the new emerging centers in the Middle East too have found renewed
interest in the Indus Valley Civilization and its studies.
A representative work shall be discussed during the three days deliberations at
Mohenjodaro, where the participants shall be living under one roof, and will
have many occasions to interact among themselves.

The National Fund for Mohenjodaro and the Government of Sindh the hosts of
the Conference are keenly looking forward to extend their traditional hospitality
to the participants of the conference and it is expected that many of the
recommendations shall go a long way in resolving the pending issues, and help
studies in the field to find right way forward.
