Course description
Ultimate limit state design of reinforced concrete beams, slabs, staircases, columns and
beam-column joints in buildings; serviceability limit states of deflection and cracking.
Course outline
o Design codes of practice; limit state design concept
o Analysis and design for flexure and shear
o Bond, anchorage and laps in reinforcement
o Analysis and design for torsion
o Serviceability, deflection and cracking control
o Design of beams, slabs, punching shear, staircases, and columns
o Design of beam-column joints

Course grading
Assignments: 15%; lab reports: 5%. The assignments and lab reports are generally due one
