On December 11, 2017, the Court issued a minute entry [Doc. No. 237] with an attached
notice. The Court ordered the Monroe City School Board (“MCSB”) to disseminate the notice to
the public by posting it on the MCSB website, publishing it in the News-Star twice before the
scheduled hearing, and making a copy available in the reception area of the MCSB offices.
Finally, the Clerk of Court was to place a copy of the notice on its reception desk.
However, it has come to the Court’s attention that the notice contains a typographical
error. The hearing in this matter is set for January 9, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., not January 8, 2018, as
indicated in the notice. Attached to this minute entry is a corrected notice which should be placed
on the MCSB website immediately. The corrected notice has also been placed at the Clerk of
Court’s reception desk. All other information contained in the original notice is correct, and no

The Monroe City School District has been under an order of desegregation since 1965.
The Honorable Robert G. James, United States District Judge for the Monroe Division of the
Western District of Louisiana, currently oversees the desegregation of the School District. Judge
James has a set a hearing for January 9, 2018, at 9:00 a.m., in the Second Floor Courtroom, at the
United States District Courthouse, which is located at 201 Jackson Street in Monroe, Louisiana.
Pending before Judge James are two motions: (1) the United States Department of
Justice’s (“the DOJ”) Motion for Further Relief [Doc. No. 211] and (2) the Monroe City School
Board’s (“the School Board”) Motion to Terminate Judicial Supervision and to Declare the
Monroe City School District Unitary [Doc. No. 221]. In its motion, the DOJ asks that Judge
James order the School Board to take certain actions in the case and also for Judge James to
continue to supervise the School District at this time. In its motion, the School Board asks Judge
James to find that the School District has been desegregated, to end his supervision, and to
