EDUC 3010 – Practicum I
– Final
Most teacher candidates will demonstrate knowledge, skills, and attributes in the “Meeting
Expectations” category.
A checkmark in the "Beginning" column indicates that the teacher candidate's performance is
acceptable but in the early stages of development. A checkmark in the “Proficient” column
indicates that the teacher candidate consistently performs at a strong level. A checkmark in the
“Not Yet Meeting Expectations” column indicates that the teacher candidate is not performing at
the minimum level of expectation. Teacher candidates who are rated as not yet meeting
expectations in two or more areas are at risk of failing the practicum.
If an outcome has not been evident or the teacher candidate has not had an opportunity to
demonstrate it, the mentor teacher is asked to identify this as not applicable. For each category on
the evaluation, the rubric is shown above the corresponding evaluation section.

Comments:
Hailee has demonstrated these qualities with her mentor teacher and her faculty
supervisor. For the second half of her practicum, Hailee will be given the chance to
work with other teachers.
1. Uses programs of study to set learning goals X

and differences and uses this knowledge to plan

clearly aligned with learning goals, require deep

choice.
Comments:
Hailee has created lessons that are interesting, engaging, and relevant to the KSAs.
Regarding differentiation, as Hailee has become more familiar with students, she has
either directly suggested a more attainable goal or task, or has scaffolded her
assignments for all to succeed.
Facilitating Learning
Hailee has used a variety of teaching strategies to engage learners. Namely, Hailee has
used Google slides, videos, prepared worksheets, creating model projects as examples,
and use of technology like the document camera and the display screen. Hailee plans
to introduce games, more use of student use of technology, and long term projects for
student to work on.
She is showing strong progress with her ability to analyze and respond to student
misconceptions by asking students to paraphrase instructions, or checking
understanding by quick questions before beginning. For example, asking, "What did I
just tell you?"
She is very good about circulating and checking students as they work for
misunderstandings.
Assessment

1. Uses assessments to identify learner needs and X
adjusts instruction including varied ways of
addressing misunderstandings
2. Develops learner understanding of learning goals X
and achievement expectations to promote self-
monitoring
3. Provides specific, timely, constructive feedback X
to help students monitor their own learning
Comments:
Hailee has been excellent with collecting student work and providing next day written
and verbal feedback. She has, at of the time of writing, done a lesson where students
participated in the development of a rubric that clearly allowed students to self
monitor their progress, in accordance with learning goals and achievement
expectations.
Environment
ENVIRONMENT (KSAs g, h)
1. Creates and manages effective classroom routines X
and procedures to ensure positive student behaviour
2. Creates a respectful and ethical learning X
community that encourages learners to take risks,
build trust, embrace diversity, and increase self-
confidence
Comments:
Hailee is beginning to develop a routine and style to ensure materials are stored
properly, clean up happens, and attention is given when needed. She has been
responsible for classroom discussions where all voices are heard and opinions are
respected.
MENTOR TEACHER FEEDBACK ON PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
Strengths/ Professional Learning Achieved:
Hailee's lessons are excellent. As mentioned above, her research of the learning expectations and
aligning her lesson plan accordingly is excellent. She comes to class with many ideas of how to
make her lessons interesting. Students are engaged and challenged.
Hailee is appropriately critical of her lessons, accepting her successes but also able to evaluate
what she could improve. Evidently, one of her strengths is to hear, accept, and adopt feedback.
Hailee's openness to growth is a professional quality of note.
Suggestions/ Areas for Growth:
Hailee has always said the right thing to students at the right time. She knows what needs to be
said. Where she is showing growth is with her confidence and her style of delivery. How she says
these words are becoming more impactful with more emotion, body language, confidence, and if
needed, assertion. Hailee is already a very good teacher. Students have always been respected by
her but now her messages are becoming more effective as she develops her style of delivery.
Developing theses skills makes her messages that more impactful.
TEACHER CANDIDATE RESPONSE TO FEEDBACK ON PROFESSIONAL GROWTH
Growth Plan:
Reflecting on my evaluation and the past few weeks, I am setting goals to improve and more fully
incorporate a few aspects into my coming lessons. I am trying to improve my classroom
management skills when I need to be firm or stern with the students about issues that are
happening such as classroom messes or unsafe behaviours. I am trying to work on manipulating
my voice, as Mr. Deleeuw has suggested, to help show that emotion and importance of what I am
talking about. I also want to try and move around the room more while I teach so that the students
know to listen no matter where I am addressing them from and also it will help me see another
perspective of the room and the students. I also want to work on scanning the room more so I can
pick up on those subtle behaviours.
In the area of teaching lessons, I want to work to incorporate my expectations and goals for the
lesson and communicate those clearly to the students. To do this I may start including a goals slide
in slideshow presentations or simply stating them to the students at the beginning of the lesson so
they know where we are headed. I also want to work on checking understanding more, especially
when working with videos or giving instructions. I want to try and remember to probe the students
and see what they remember from the instructions to see if they were listening and they
understand. By incorporating these changes I should see an improvement in the classroom
environment and the students will have a better understanding of where we are headed and what
they need to focus on.
Faculty Supervisor Comments:
Haillee, has had a successful start to her practicum. She has worked diligently to build a positive
rapport with her students and understand their individual needs as learners. She exhibits a strong,
confident, yet caring teacher presence. It is highly evident that she is applying feedback given to
her by her mentor teachers and myself in order to improve her teaching practice. Her lesson plans,
seminar responses, journals, and contributions to our discussions are thorough and insightful.
In the final two weeks of practicum I would recommend that Haillee continue to develop the areas
for growth that she and her Mentor teachers have articulated. While her classroom management
skills are generally strong, Haillee should continue to work on scanning the room to ensure that all
students are listening and on task.
